Ok, so roughly 95% of all games have a final boss, and any self respecting RPG has a final boss. The only TES game I have played is MW and it had Dagoth Ur, Bloodmoon had Hircine, and Tribunal had Almalexia.
So the point I am trying to make here is: has there been any news on a final boss in OB? If not then this is the thread to discuss ideas for final bosses for OB.

i dont see how you could defeat the boss in a game like this as any but a wizard of great power unless whoever your are is blessed and everything thing he carries is an objuect of great power and legend.

Dagoth Ur, Hircine, and Amalexia weren't final bosses. Final bosses are for games, RPG or not, that force you to go in a single direction.
Though, I do have a feeling that at some point or another you'll be fighting the heir. The story to Oblivion seems way too basic-- The Emperor dies, bad stuff happens, so you find his heir- but let's say that the Heir is an idiot and one way or another you're tasked with killing him and you become the new Emperor.
Remember, Bethesda simply said that you were not the heir. They never went beyond that to imply that you weren't the new ruler. And knowing Bethesda, they're bound to put our character on the spotlight somehow.

They can't make you the emperor, they'd have to be able to write the name of the new ruler into the time-line. Notice in every game you always play an unknown hero, or a hero who's name is replaced by a title.

Possibly a daedric prince will be the final one (maybe even depening on which factions you sided with on the main quest). Though most likely they will give us a good suprsise.

Notice that in the time line alligned with Morrowind, they never refer to the nevarine as "The Khajiit Thief, S'Murkel" or "The Dunmer Mage, Gindrellis Telvanni". They refer to him as "A child, born on an uncertain day to uncertain parents, ignorant of the role he was to play in that nations history". How much harder could it be to do that for an Emperor? "An unknown prisoner tasked with finding the Emperor's lost heir, and failed, but ended up taking the seat on the throne of Tamriel." It's true that you always have a title, but in this game it could easily be "Emperor", "Prisoner", or even "Daedraslayer".

i love that game.
and i seriously hope that Bethesda gives us a REALLY good plot twist somewhere along the way. going to oblivion and fighting a daedric prince in a "final battle to the death" would be a bit cliche'd. i'm hoping for either a massive final battle between people and daedra with you caught ight in the midst of it. or.... damn, forgot what i was going to say....

If you've played Fable for the Xbox, you probably remember how on the last level they took you through a series of areas you'd already visited, but during a huge battle. They should do that; a Lord of the Rings scale battle would be perfect for Oblivion.

Heroes are like fires, they bright brightly for a time, then are gone, leaving little behind.
Emperors are well documented, and long lasting, they stay in the public eye far longer.
Thus making the PC the emperor would, well, not work very well. Besides, I doubt a theif would want to be emperor. Or something like that. Hero, well, circumstances can coarce them into a short term role such as that. Emperor, no.
There are better qualified people out there for the Job.

In the timeline they refer very little to the heroes. Remember when in daggerfall you chose between 6 different endings? The timeline had to invent a "warp of the west" which described how the hero's final decision was unknown, but somehow the positive ending for each group came to be. Now imagine that... with an Emperor. Everyone's character is different, with different personalities effecting their decisions.
Like Aki said, it can be done with a nameless hero, not with an Emperor. Also, I highly doubt the heir will betray you. That's an incredibly dumb twist. A much better twist would be... if Jygallag ended up being the main villain.

if its the daedric prince of annoyance then it should be a ombination of:
-A giant Mudcrab with an army of Cliffracers
-That has ten hours of unskippable dialogue
-Every time you hit him your game freezes and when it freezes you're on the ground dead

I wouldn't make him that hard. Maybe every time you hit him you are knocked down, your fatigue becomes 0 and you are blinded by a factor of 99, experience health and magicka degeneration for 30 seconds, as well as getting every common and blight disease.

Although MW on the whole is non-linear, I find the quests, especially the mainquest, to be very linear. Dagoth Ur, Hircine, and Amalexia were final bosses for their respective quests. So, I expect to see a 'final boss' for the end of the main quest in OB.
The whole annoying boss with the cliff racers, unskippable dialogue, game freezing, fatigue and magic draining, only needs to be killed by a certain trivial item, like a friggin dwemer puzzle box, or a dagoth cup, that took you forever to find in the first place, then sold to a merchant, forgot who you sold it to, found it, then stashed it in a storage chest, to find out later that the computer randomly reset the chest to its original configuration - empty. Then, go to the forums to hear the ever sound advice of 'just load a previously saved game'. Gee, thanks, hadn't thought of that. Oh, wait, just use the console command blah blah blah... Sure would be nice to have a console..FOR MY XBOX. No, I'm not bitter....
