I started playing guitar about 2 1/2 months ago. I am doing pretty well. I can play the rhythm of "For Whom The Bell Tolls" and "I Wanna Rock". I am practicing scales and patterns in scales to learn to play solos.

Right now, I have a cheap Ibanez. I am looking to buy a Gibson SG '61 Reissue or a Gibson SG Standard next March. biggrin.gif
Ryuku Walker
I started playing some basic guitar a few weeks ago. I got the basics down at least.

Dantrag, get a banjo, and everything will be fine.

if you, however, are into different styles of electronic music, you are welcome to check out my site, and dl some of my tracks! id be happy to hear some _constructive_ feedback...

that said, id like to point out that i listen to nearly all types of music, except folk.

Yeah, its pretty mean looking compared to alot of the guitars like it, but I can play some calm and collected songs. My G-310 suits me well because I can play blues, jazz, rock, metal and punk on it without much knob turnin' and the Rage 158 seems to give no sounds when put too close to the G-310, which is always nice.

You're not completely alone, FafsaTheElf. I play classical music on my clarinet and love to listen to it. Call me old fassioned, but I could never get into rap and heavy metal. smile.gif

That's not to say that's all I like. Any Beattles fans out there?
Tellie
I play el-guitar, just plain white....oh yeah, I also play keyboard and piano...:lowlife: :paperbag:

Darn, I missed the cello discussion, but that's what i play. In a very high up orchestra too i might add.(for my age and experience)

Aside from classical music, i play nearly all music i can find in games.

I FINALLY got myself a base, I had the opportunity to buy a cheap one from my friends little brother.

It's black, sounds lovely... and I even named it Frank emot-ninja1.gif

I have no idea how the bass should be played really, I just hear something nice and play it.

Maybe I should take some lessons?

How did you guys learn to play your instrument?
Saffas Missionary
First off, you might want to spell bass right (the first time you spelled it base). And btw about the orchestra post a while ago, I play in a high orchestra too and am auditioning for a better one biggrin.gif
Khajiit Overlord Rainer
So, no brass players so far.

Rainer has played the Tuba for 5 years.

He also plays Baritone and Valve Trombone smile.gif

Uhh, Fafsa, that was quite mean.

I personally learned from my great instructor of many years, who teaches guitar, bass and saxaphone. Most bass and electric guitar teachers use a technique nowadays that I like to call "actually teaching". The principle of the technique is that they will teach you a few songs that test your fingers (though most people are ready enough to skip that step), then they will teach you how to read tabs and then teach you any song you want to learn.

And Rainer, I've been playing (and loving) Trombone for a few years now and can play many songs on both Baritone and Tuba. smile.gif

Just noticed this thread.

I've been a singer for many years, but now that I've reached 36 and no record deal it's starting to get long between each gig.

When I first started we had a band who did ok in our town and got good reviews on national radio. Since we didn't have a manager and none of us were very administrative we didn't get much further than that.

My 'highlight' (commercially speaking) was participation in a national TV show called "Stjerner i sikte" (English: "Look to the stars") in 1997, where I performed "A view to a kill" by Duran Duran. I participated in that mostly to please my mother, as the concept of trying to sing and act like other artists appalled me.

After that I got pretty much rejected by other musicians, since I had 'sold myself' in that TV show. So now I'm mostly doing ordinary work and sing from time to time at parties/weddings etc... kvright.gif

That's really ignorant for someone to think that you sold out. Nothing wrong with singing other people's stuff.
ShogunSniper
in my absence i have picked up an electric guitar. i've taken lessons from a nice instructor, who seems to teach differently than other guitar teachers... kvleft.gif

anyway, my guitar looks EXACTLY like this:

I know, and the musicians in this town are generally quite judgmental and arrogant, although there are certainly exceptions.

But we (almost the same gang as our original band) actually made a living of playing cover music for several years. We were 'house band' for 2 clubs, and it was always packed full.

We started a trend here, I think I can say. Since we started playing, the town got swamped with cover bands of various quality, each fighting for gigs.

Even now after several years since we stopped playing regularly I'm still being stopped on the street by people saying stuff like 'Hey, you were the singer in the Garagen house band! That was the best time of my life!'. Compliments like that still makes me very happy... smile.gif

My hubby Cain was a drummer since teenage years ... but now that we have left our soundproof studios, he has a black fretless Dean Edge bass guitar. He has played bass before, but he will be taking lessons now to improve.

It seems we have a small trombone club here at chorrol. It has been a few years since I have played my trombone, but it still holds a special place in my heart. I have also spent many years playing the piano, although I'm a bit rusty on that as well. Now, mostly, I sing, but nothing so professional as some of the other people here. Really, I just sing in the church choir, with a few solos here and there to mix things up. It's really great to see the number of musical people here; perhaps someone with composing skills should write a theme-song for chorrol.com? (Okay, maybe that's a really bad idea, but I just had to throw it out there).

Just came home from a gig. A guitarist friend of mine asked me if I would like to sing at a pub located a few miles outside my town, and I reluctantly agreed. I haven't performed for almost a year (have a 'normal' job now), and he warned me that this pub was full of locals who never listened to the bands and if they did, harassed them and asked them to play songs they knew they would never be able to play, or doing their best to ruin the gig in other ways, like unplugging cables etc...

Besides, I haven't been singing with him for many years, and when we last played together it was with a full band. We had no time to rehearse, and I have only bad experiences playing with a single guitar only.

Well it was a success! Everybody liked it, and we got a new booking immediately at the pub as well as an offer to play at a big birthday party a few weeks from now.

And in addition to the payment (which was quite good) we got free beers (although I only had time to drink three). biggrin.gif
