Oiiiii......holy muffin! Clapton is by far one of my favourites....jeez he´s been around for quite some time.....I used to listen to him when I was at University.....you know those parties where you get terribly drunk and just soo sentimental
I do remember having been running around outside in the snow, without shoes...then came in and just fell into a couch.....oh and they played Layla!
Mmmm I do have a couple of old records with Clapton....vinyl of course! One of my former boyfriends was called Clapton out of two reasons...he resembled him and....was a pretty good guitar-player!
Ohhh gotta go find those records now....

Well Layla ended, and my playlist has continued.
As I predicted, Queensryche's new album Operation: Mindcrime II did grow on me.
I'm now listening to Fear City Slide. It's actually a pretty sad song, as the protagonist of the story is comtemplating suicide. And in true Queensryche fashion, they don't tell you if he ever does or not.

Aha! That's where I got the name for my new Oblivion character. She is a Nord and I named her Layla but couldn't remember at the time where exactly that was coming from. Now I remember from Danny's post. I also have a Danish wildflower perfume named Laila, but that is different spelling.

I don't think he does Reading Rainbow anymore; I'm fairly certain that they're just reruns. Unless somehow the show hads survived for thirteen years. (I used to watch it all the time)
Right now I'ms listening to A Change of Seasons by Dream Theater. In my opinion, this is Dream Theater's best composition to date. It starts slow and acoustic-sounding, gets harder, slows down again, etc. There are so many changes in the song to keep you interested throughout its twenty-three minutes. (Not to mention Petrucci's guitar solos

)

Dream Theatre are pretty good. They're definately fine muscians, but I generally fine their overly long "solos" between the guitarist and the keyboardist a little annoying after the first time. Like the first time it's interesting to hear, but after that, I feel like I just wanna get back to the song part. There are some exceptions for that though, I like the Octavarium album because the songs are little shorter so the solos don't become overly long so they have to do a lot of cool things quickly in the solos. Also, Scenes from a Memory works well with the long solos, they just stayed interesting for me, that's probably why it's my favourite album by them.

Toumani Diabate with Ballake Sissoko - New Ancient Strings - pretty good
kora music. What kora music is? A kora is an instrument that looks like...well... like this:

It's an instrument originally from
Mali (that's an african country) and surprisingly it sounds a lot like a guitar, only it has a lot more strings - 21 of them.
As far as African music goes, my favorite is still Baaba Maal, but this stuff is pretty good too. I also have this compilation called 'A Rough Guide to African Music'. It's a good introduction to what is new and hot in various parts of Africa today. Some of it sounds like western rock music, other stuff is a mix of various western styles with local styles, and yet other stuff seems pretty traditional. At any rate, it's very good.

I'm listening to Queensryche's 'The Chase' from
Operation: Mindcrime II.
I find it enjoyable because Ronnie James Dio (formerly of Black Sabbath) and Geoff Tate (Queensryche) perform a great duet, singing different parts at the same time. Dio playing Dr. X and Tate playing Nikki just before Nikki kills Dr. X.
(Which is odd, because I think Dio plays Nikki in the regular voice acting)
I think I may be a mindcrime junkie.

You think you're smart, inventive
Because you've figured out my game?
Pride is a handy substitute,
When you've got only yourself to blame.
All my dreams I've realized while you... were indisposed.
While you've spent eighteen years watching TV,
I've watched my fortune grow.
Here I am-I'm finally on the outside and
You're nowhere near where I've been!
I've got you where I want you... at last.
You've got no idea who I am!
We circle around each other waiting for reaction
We circle around each other waiting for reaction
Wanting satisfaction for the past.
I want nothing... from the past.
Always been so easy you're like a puppet on my string,
Throwing down hollow threats, unsure of what to think.
Why should I care?
You wouldn't dare!
You're nothing but worthless... I swear.
From where I stand I've got you where I want you.
You'll never take me! Never take me down!
I've seen all I need to put you in the ground
Revenge is normal, a typical reaction
I've seen your cynical reaction...
If you're standing outside of in.
Always on the outside of in.
Here we are at last facing oblivion...
And this is where finally it ends.
You don't belong here.
Holding fast to each of our sins.
With hope by my side, I'll survive to see the dawn.
Believe me or not... you owe me.
I owe you nothing!
I gave your life a purpose!
I owe you nothing but your death!
Without me you wouldn't have learned a thing!

Recently I have been obsessed with listening to Rammstein's Mutter album, it's just so catchy. It's easily the best Rammstein album I have right now, while I thought both Reise Reise and Rosenrot were great, they definately can't compare to the stuff that's on Mutter.
It's just the blending of orchestral music, with hints of techno beats, all backed by heavy metal riffs. It just makes it so catchy, almost dancable with some songs. Freuer Frei! just makes me wanna get up and move.
Today I also purchased 4 CDs. The new Billy Talent CD, an Isis CD (on a whim, I've heard a little bit about them, but not much, all I know is that they're mainly instrumental base, little vocals), Nevermore's This Godless Endeavor (because it was on sale and I was interested in them earlier), and Hurt's Vol. 1.
I'm really excited over the Hurt CD because I didn't think I would find it in Canada and I would have to order it. I gave it a spin on the ride home and I already think I'm going to be hooked on it.
To tell ya the truth, I'm gonna go listen to it right now.

I find that line delicious because Project 86 are often grouped with the Christian Rock genre. Not that is a bad thing though.
At the moment, like I expected, I'm absolutely obsessed with Hurt's Vol. 1. Just the element of string arrangements to certain songs make them so much more powerful. They do just about everything as well, acoustic sad songs, acoustic happy songs, hard rock/metally songs, and straight forward rockers, to indieish stuff, namely on the track, Overdose. I strongly suggest listening to Danse Russe, Cold Inside, Rapture, and House Carpenter.

I'm currently listening to "In Fiction" by Isis. Almost 9 minutes of sweet music. It's off the Panopticon album, and I'm very happy that I purchased it off a whim.
The whole album is only 7 "songs" but the cd is nearly an hour long so that tells you how long the songs are. I call them "songs" just because they're more soundscapes than songs, they do have vocals but they're mixed behind the music so the words are unintelligable, they're basically another instrument. I just love the way they progress and texture the songs though, they mix peace and chaos elements really well, it's awe-inspiring.
But enough of my fanboyisms....

They were a really shocking punk band during the 70's that my dad used to listen to. They used to do things that scared, shocked and alienated the crowd, such as playing infront of a Nazi flag and naming the singer "Nazi Dog" (don't get this the wrong way though, they let people know they didn't support the ideals but that it was simply a shock prop). Anyways, they were actually pretty good.

Well once you do get money, you'll probably enjoy the Lateralus album since it's much similar in sound to 10,000 Days, I personally dig the title track off that album.
Personally, my favourite Tool album was the one previous to Lateralus, Aenima. It just has a really nice blend of semi-aggressive stuff to moody stuff. It where I got that eye avatar from, it's one of three covers you can insert into the cd case, it has that holographic stuff where you move the case up and down the image shifts and stuff. With the eye one, it rolls, the contortionist one is kinda gross, and the normal cd cover is neat, it's this white fiery void type dealie.
Enjoy 10,000 Days though, I did.

It was funny that I suddenly became aware of their talent right around the time the album hit the stores, my luck. This is the single, true acoustic song off the album, really emotional, despite a 50 year old singing it. I am currently listening to the new Strapping Young Lad album, "The New Black". It had me a little worried at first, since the previous SYL album was released a year ago, so the album could've possibly felt rushed.
Upon listening to it, I shouldn't have worried at all! It's great, and has a few more funny elements this time around, namely in the songs 'You Suck' and 'Anti-product'. I laughed my head off when the big band music started playing over metal riffs in 'Anti-product', I never thought those two genres would work together but it's really interesting to hear.
They did make this album a wee bit more accessible, but it doesn't bother me, though the "hardcore" fans might be disappointed it does. It's still very, very, metal though. Supposedly this might be their final album, and that makes me sad. Hopefully Devin changes his mind, but it's understandable to stop if you've been involved with 20 albums in the last 10 years. That's insane!

I enjoyed the parts that had music in the last Mars Volta album, wasn't really into the long seguements of white noise, particularly the second half of "The Widow". I would've perferred a better way of segueing into songs that white noise. Though the 4 minutes it takes for "Miranda That Ghost Isn't Holy Anymore" was pretty cool.
Currently I'm still obsessing over Hurt's debut album, and Isis' Panopticon album, and the new Strapping Young Lad album. Though I am currently listening to an Avenged Sevenfold song, "I Won't See You Tonight pt.2".
Oh yea! And if you wanna know an ultimate guitar song in my opinion it is Nevermore's "Final Product". I would almost say it's 50/50 vocals/guitar fills/solos. Now I don't know what certain guitar techniques are called but the main solo has some really nice fret tapping (at least that's what I'm guessing it is). Just a suggestion for you "guitar heroes" out there.
