Update!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As Ryan walked back into Scyda Neen, he ran into Eldafire again.

“Well, have you taken care of those cursed Ashlanders? If you have it would be good to see some proof.” She said boldly.

“Has the value of life come so low here that all you can think about is the death of those you don’t understand? Yes, I did kill some of them, but not all and I will wait for the morrow to continue.” Ryan stated, just as bold.

“What?!? You didn’t kill them all? Do you know what they will do when they find their dead companions? They will kill the next traveler they find, in revenge, instead of ransoming them!” Eldafire stuttered.

“Listen, lady, in my whole entire life I have never been forced to even injure a fellow intelligent human being and you expect me to just suddenly become a cold hearted killer??? I said I will take care of them and I will, but not until the morning!” Ryan said forcefully. “Now, would you care to tell me if there is an Inn nearby where I can spemd the night?”

“I had no idea…I just supposed,” Said the High Elf, taken aback. “No, there is no Inn for you to stay at but I could let you share my house. I have an extra bed that you can use.”

“Thank you very much,” Said Ryan, taken aback, in turn, by Eldafire’s sudden kindness. “I will be at your house soon but first I must see if I can get some food.”

“That is not necessary,” She said. “I will provide food for you, as long as you keep your oath to take care of the Ashlanders.”

Ryan followed Eldafire to her house, which was right across from Arrille’s. He went in and saw immediately that, while it wasn’t fancy, it was home enough. Directly in front of him was a small table with benches, which reminded of picnic table from home, and to his right was a small fireplace that had a rather large pot in it that was bubbling and smell something like potatoes. To his left were a set of bunk beds and a larger fireplace, in which a small fire was burning merrily.

“Oh my, I almost forgot about my salt-rice and ash yam soup!” She said as she raced to take to pot off the fire. “Yes, this is my famous soup! It tastes like heaven! Even socious Ergalla says so, and he has extremely refined tastes! Here let me dish you some up and prepare your bed.”

Ryan tasted the very thick soup and it reminded him of the Dinty Moore canned soup his mother used to make, just without any meat. He wolfed it down just like he did at home. After Ryan was finished with his meal he noticed an interesting book called Notes on Racial Phylogeny, which caught his eye.

“Eldafire, would you mind if I read your book before going to sleep?” Ryan Queried.

“Mind? Of course not! You might as well take the book.” She replied. “I’m done with it and I don’t have enough space to keep it.”

Ryan thanked her and began to read the book. It taught him about the healing arts and how you must heal certain races certain ways in order for the most successful healing. It also taught him how to cure all the races of the most common of diseases.

When he was done reading, it was very late and Eldafire was already asleep so he just lay down in his bunk and immediately fell into a deep, healing, both physically and mentally, sleep.

An interesting read, nice to see the story from a different perspective
Lucidarius
Your take on things are quite different, Neck' Thall. I like that you include the other fan fic characters and their previous actions, although I still like to read about every character's reflections on the usual Morrowind quests. Even though the quests are often the same, each writer adds something new and with their own individual perspective. So either way, inventing new quests or doing the 'normal' quests, would personally be fine for this reader. smile.gif You have good descriptions and it's easy to follow your character's thoughts on events and people.

Good updates. It is interesting to watch Ryan learn as he goes- having a character who doesn't "know everything" makes the story more suspenseful and easy to relate to.

Update!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ryan woke in his bunk bed, hearing the snores of his little brother, John, in the bunk above him. He turned to stand up out of his bed when he noticed that there was a fireplace in his bedroom! Then it all came rushing back. The game, the dream, Fargoth, the Ashlanders he murdered, and Eldafire.

I’m never going to nee John again, am I? Though Ryan. I wonder what him and my parent will think when I’m gone? They’ll probably just think that I ran off with my friends like I usually did. I wish I could speak to them one last time…

Ryan got out of the bunk and went to put on his clothes and armor. By the time he was done Eldafire was up and frying Kwarma eggs on a skillet that was on a stand over her cooking fire. After eating his breakfast and saying his thanks to Eldafire, he walked to Arrille‘s to prepare for the dreaded task ahead.

When he got inside the trade house, instead of talking to Arrille immediately, he got a table near the bar and began to figure out which ingredients he could use and which he could sell. After making several Restore Health and Fatigue potions, he also made a few water walking potions out of some mushrooms and some swamp-growing pods. When he was done. He went downstairs and sold his Extra potions to Arrille in exchange for six small axes, perfectly balanced for throwing.

Ryan strapped two of them to the front of his thighs, two the side of them and two to his hips, all within east throwing reach. After that he went outside and marked a tree with something that resembled a target and began to try to throw them at it. Surprisingly, his first shot hit the bull’s-eye and the only reason the others didn’t was because the first was already there. He remembered how he had killed that second Ashlander with his axe and wanted to make sure that if he got in a fight today that he was going to take the enemy down from afar and not have to get into a melee. These preparations made, he began the hike to the Ashlander camp.

Very very good! I like how you include simple things like breakfast, as when I'm playing I just never think of real life food. (Maybe that's why I should download that mod....). Throwing axes=awesome.

Shame Konrad can't be in it..he's a born and bred cyrodil.

Good addition- the reflection on his "real" life adds a touch of sadness as he prepares to do what he must in order to survive.

Good update where we follow his reasoning and training with the axes.

Sry guys for being so long with this update. I was busy with school and unable to write. It didn't help that i was grounded too...but thats another story.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
About halfway, Ryan was wondering if the Ashlanders would negotiate this time.

I don’t think they will Thought Ryan. But I can only hope. I don’t want to much blood-

“EEEEEEEEEEEEKKK!!!!!!” Came a piercing scream from up the trail.

Ryan quickly unstrapped a pair of axes from his thighs and raced down the trail towards the scream. When he neared he saw four Dunmer in tribal dress attacking a young Breton female. At the feet of one of the Ashlanders was a Nord who had two arrows in his back and whose head was covered in blood.

Seeing the girl was being attacked, Ryan threw both of his axes at the nearest Dunmer. One axe buried itself the mer’s back and the other in his shoulder as the force of the blow spun him around. As he fell in a heap to the ground, two off the remaining Ashlanders turned to face him. The remaining one turned to the Breton and raised his sword. Taking the battleaxes from his shoulders, Ryan ran at the mer and swung a sideways blow at the one his right and an uppercut at his left. As both of his attacks were parried, he found himself facing a double thrust for his abdomen. Bringing one axe down to block, the Imperial spun around, giving a kick to the jaw to one of them while the other had the joy of receiving the business end of Ryan’s axe in the chest.

Suddenly, Ryan was knocked down by a blast of heat. As he got up, he saw the elf that had attacked the Breton fall in a smoking heap after receiving brunt of a fireball cast by the girl. Amazed that such a small thing could bring such destruction, a sudden, sharp pain in his right shoulder brought Ryan back to himself. He turned to see the Dunmer he had been fighting was running away, but saw another one drawing an arrow on his bow.

As Ryan began to run toward him the mer shot him again, this time through the thigh. Ryan stumbled to a halt and fell to the ground, his left leg unable to support him anymore. After reaching down to pull the arrow from his leg, he looked up just in time to see the Dunmer drawing a bead on his head…

“BOOOOMMM!! KKRRRREEZZZZZZ!!!!”

Suddenly, the mer was not aiming at Ryan, but forced up against a tree 15 yards away with a smoking hole in his chest. His ears still ringing, Ryan turned his head to see the girl dismissing the remains of a Thunderbolt spell. Then she dropped to he knees and put her hands around the Nord and began to weep.

Ryan quickly chanted his healing spell on his leg and got up to go over to her.

“Are you alright Miss?” Ryan said as he got to her.

“No, I’m not alright!” She sobbed. “They killed Canrik! If only all of my stupid spells weren’t so damn slow…I could have saved him…”

“It’s alright miss,” Said Ryan, wrapping his arm around her. “There was nothing you could have done.”

As he said this, he was bringing her upright. Suddenly, she gasped.

“Oh my Gods!!! You have an Arrow in your back!!!” She said with horror in her voice.

It seems that at that moment the endorphins chose that moment to wear off, enveloping Ryan in pain.

“Please…take it out…quickly…” Grunted Ryan after he managed to master the larger part of the agony.

“Are you sure?” She said, obviously worried.

“Yes, I’m sure, but please, get it over with quickly.” Ryan uttered.

If the pain was bad when the adrenalin wore off it was worse when the arrow was pulled out. Ryan nearly passed out, but managed to reach over his right shoulder with his left5 hand and mutter the incantation to Hearth Heal. With that done, he rapidly succumbed to the rushing darkness.

I just caught up with this story ~ there are so many good fanfics on this board it's hard to keep up with them all. Not that I'm complaining mind smile.gif

While this is not an original take on Morrowind, your treatment of it is highly original and very interesting. I like that you've deviated from the main path of the game and are creating quests/events of your own ~ well-written ones too.

Excellent stuff ~ I want to read more...
Neck' Thall
I'm sry if this part is bad but im not very goo at the emtional stuff...so...Here it is.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ryan awoke to the sound of a crackling fire and the soothing feeling of a warm blanket put over him. He slowly opened his eyes and was greeted by the worried face of the Breton girl.

“Finally, you’re awake,” She said. “You were out cold since the fight yesterday afternoon.”

“Those were some spells you cast Miss?” Said Ryan as he sat up and looked around. Over the fire there was a pot of something that smelled like saltrice, and near the camp was a cairn of stones and a fresh mound of dirt was about 10 feet away from that.

“My name is Brionna, what’s yours?” She asked.

“My name is Ryan”. He said. “What were you and that Nord doing out here?”

“His name was Canrik,” She snapped. “And he was my foster brother, not “just some Nord”! We were heading to Ebonheart from Ald Ruhn, leaving from out foster parents home to go on our adventures in the world.”

“I’m sorry, if only I come a but sooner, maybe I could have saved him…” Said Ryan sadly.

“No, it’s ok,” Brionna replied, obviously calming down. “He had wanted to take the stilt strider here. He said it was because he didn’t want to scuff his new boots, but I knew he was doing it just to protect me, so I insisted that we go by foot. It was my fault. If I hadn’t been so stubborn and pigheaded he would still be alive…”

As she started crying, Ryan put his arm around her, but said nothing. He knew what it was like to loose a loved one to a violent happening. When he was only nine years old his older brother, Markus, who was twelve at the time, was killed by a drive by as he was jogging home from the Karate school that they had both gone to at the time. Ryan had been with him and the only reason he had survived was because Markus was nearest to the street.
When the sobbing had stopped, Ryan said to her, “It’s not your fault and you know it. I believe it was mine because these were the Ashlanders that I had chickened out from killing yesterday. They probably attacked you and Canrik because they were enraged by their comrades’ deaths. So, its my fault not yours.”

“Lets stop talking about this please,” Brionna asked. “And get away from here. I have already buried Canrik, and there is nothing more we can do for him…”

“I should have helped you do-“ Ryan began.

“Stop it! I am not a helpless kitten, you know.” She screamed. “I’m tired of you men thinking that I can’t do anything by my self!”

“I-I didn’t mean it that way,” He stammered. “I was only thinking that you shouldn’t have had to face burying him by yourself.”

“Well it doesn’t matter anymore!” She shouted. “He’s already buried!”

That outburst was followed by a very awkward silence. After about fiver minutes Ryan stood up and began walking up the path.

“Where are you going?” Asked Brionna.

“I’m going to finish what I started to do yesterday, but was to much of a coward to finish,” He said. : I’m going to kill those murdering bastardes.”

“Then let me come and help you, you saw what my spells could do! Please I just want to avenge the death of my foster brother.”

“You can come. Can you cast any Chameleon spells?”

“I can but it’s not that good. It only last about 15 seconds.”

“That good enough. Now follow me.”

They both left the camp, the forgotten pot boiling over and the wind whistling through the stones of Canrik’s Cairn.

Very good so far, I just caught up. I like how you are steering your story away from the stale, overused storyline that came with the game.

After walking up the path towards the camp, Brionna cast her chameleon spell. Then both of them quickly went to a spot next to their targets. The guards of the camp were on high alert, but by either skill or sheer luck, they both got to their positions.

I hope this work… Thought Ryan. No! This needs-

Suddenly, the chameleon wore off, revealing them both to the enemy. Ryan quickly shut his eyes when a second later there was a blinding flash of light. He opened his eyes when it was over and saw the guards screaming and holding their eyes, while Brionna was already concentrating on her next spell. Ryan quickly got to work

A quick blow to the head dispatched the first guard, leaving two left.

Make that one. Thought Ryan as Brionna’s next spell froze another guard in his tracks with a frigid blast of air.

That one, recovering his sight, charged Brionna. Luckily, Ryan got there first and greeted the charging mer with a first hand (or stomach) view of the sharp ends of his axes. Unfortunately, the meeting was interrupted by the Dunmer’s desire to stay alive, as he stopped just in time to block the first axe and dodge out of the way of the second. Then his hammer decided to get acquainted with Ryan’s skull, but ran into his axe instead. The next meeting was between Ryan’s axe and the mer’s stomach.

While this exchange of blows was happening, four more Dunmer came out of the tents. One of them was quickly put out of business by a fireball from Brionna, but the others reached her and Ryan right as he finished with the guard. The first one to reach them swung a blow at Ryan’s head but missed as he dodged back from the blow. Ryan then attacked with both axes, which were blocked, and a knee to the groin, which wasn’t. Letting that one fall to the floor and curl up into a ball, Ryan turned to confront another with a well-thrown axe to his chest. He then turned to face the last Ashlander.

This one was obviously the leader, if not by the way he held his head high and how he just walked towards Ryan instead of charging, then by the magnificent spear that he held in both his hands. Its shaft was four feet long and had green gems embedded in it, while it’s blade was blood red. The whole weapon was shimmering with the light of a very powerful enchantment. His armor was of the heavy duty variety, but almost sang with potent magic.

Ryan had heard once from…somewhere…that spell swords were failed battle mages.

If this is failure, Thought Ryan. I’d hate to see success.

not bad, make it a good fight with the leader smile.gif

Very interesting, waiting for the next part.
Neck' Thall
With a deafening roar, the massively armored body of Ryan’s remaining opponent charged him…only to be forced back by a lightening bolt that seemed to do nothing else but that. Thanking the gods the girl was with him, Ryan quickly recovered from his stupor and hurled an axe at the leader to delay him. Unfortunately, this tactic did not work. Although the axe caught him full in the chest, the blade just bounced off and almost sliced Ryan’s arm off as it was blasted back to him by the armors protective magic.

Seeing that a ranged offensive wouldn’t work Ryan closed for melee. That may have been one of the worst decisions in his life. With this mer, if ranged combat was dangerous, then close combat was deadly. Before Ryan even got off a shot, a quick thrust bloodied his left arm and a fist to the face almost knocked him unconscious cracked his chitin helm.

Luckily, Brionna came to the rescue with a conjured spear of frost, though this didn’t have any more affect than the lightening did. It did give Ryan enough time to shake him self to full consciousness. He then rammed the butt of his axe into the mer’s crotch (for all the good it did) while his other went for the gap between his helmet and his chest plate. The low blow had absolutely no affect at all and a gauntleted fist blocked his head strike. The return blows were less readily received. Using his free gauntlet, the Dunmer shoved the axe aside and made a thrust with his spear at Ryan’s gut. Fortunately, Ryan’s other axe was able to catch him in mid thrust and slid along the shaft to score on the fingers at the end.

Needless to say, the Ashlander was less than overjoyed at the removal of those digits, and responded accordingly. Letting out a course yell, the mer swung a backhanded fist at Ryan’s head and bashed his armored face in behind it. Ryan head was forced backwards by the punch so that the head butt hit him in chest instead of the head. Feeling a few of his ribs break, Ryan fell to the ground in a breathless heap. The Ashlander then pick Ryan up and shoved him against a tree, his spear prepared to skewer the hapless Ryan. He managed to bring his axe up in a semblance of a defense but it was useless. Ryan knew he was doomed.

I didn’t expect to go like this… Ryan thought. Hell, I didn’t expect to go at all...

Then just before the finishing thrust, there was a sudden crack, and the Ashlander was forced towards Ryan, right onto his waiting axe. The axe, forced by the suddenness of the assault, was pushed up against the chest plate of the mer, blocking the spear and finding the small crease in his armor. So great was the force that the mer’s entire head was removed from his shoulder, helmet and all. When Ryan recovered from shock enough to look from the crumpled body at hi feet, Ryan noticed Brionna, breathing heavily, dismissing the remnants of a major lightening spell.

That was all Ryan saw before the adrenalin of the fight wore off and the pain in his chest made him pass out…
