QUOTE(Fuzzy Knight @ Jun 16 2006, 06:16 AM)
What had to be repaired thought?

Well, I'm still glad there's a couple of guitars around in this house. Two Fender Strat's, one Squire and a Fender Telecaster. Have thought of trying out the Telecaster, haven't played with it yet...

*

My volume knob was busted and I couldn't get my guitar to make a sound through the amp. Something came loose and made it so that it could twist all the way around, and it eventually snapped some wires.

I actually like the way a tele plays better than tthe strrat. But I don't think I'd ever buy a fender unless it was a bass.
Ibis
Yay for Danny's guitar! It does pay to be a frequent patron at your favorite stores.

I was suppose to move yesterday, but our ride blew a tire and had to be towed back to Eugene :[

Still, it's coming back today. Hopefully in a few hours.

Hey, as a side note, I have a little tech problem I need help with. Anything that requires a bit more graphical power than a flash program or such doesn't work on our (newly acquired) laptop (basicly games don't work). Apparently my friend deleted a bunch of programs off of it a few years ago (before it was ours) and accidently deleted something important. We reformated it but games still don't work.

I went to check out the video card and it doesn't even recognise they type of the video card, it just says it's an "undidentified video card". I scoured the computer but I couldn't find any internal or external sources that identified the video card. I checked the manufacturer's website but it doesn't even recognize my model as being on of their products (I know it can't be older than a year or two).

So I checked DEBUG and the most I could find out was it (the video card) is manufactured by ATI... and that's about it. So basicly, what I'm asking is: is there a a way I can have my computer recognise the video card so I can find out what driver to download? I don't even know what the hell the video card specificly is.

Thanks.

You might try downloading and running SISoft Sandra. here . It is a freeware diagnostic that allows you to look at system configuration and performance. Also, please list the Model No. and brand of PC- lots of folks here who enjoy a little ferreting... smile.gif

Okay. Thank you, I'll look into that.

Well, this information won't be very useful, but from what I can scrounge it's a Toshiba Satellite... though I have no idea what model it is indifferent.gif

I thought it was a Satellite A85-S107... but when I search it up on the database it doesn't come up with anything.

Hiya Stomach Ache! Too bad about your ride ... hope they do get it together and come for you tomorrow as you said.

As far as the video card, why don't you go to ATI website and see if you can find pictures of their video cards and see if you can visually recognize yours from the looks of it. Just an idea.

Cain says to look up the model number of your laptop because most of those are not switchable and you should find out what video card it uses. He also said if the previous person deleted a system file, all you have to do is reinstall your Operating System and it will be included.

If it's dos based ... your programs will be there and the sys/file will be restored. If it is NT based, which it probably is being only 2 years old, 2000 or XP, reinstalling the OS will set things to Default, which will erase your programs.

If its proprietory, which most laptops are, put in the recovery disk and it will get set to default and you will have to reput in your programs. K?

*Stummy, when I looked up Toshiba Satellite all I get for software Driver downloads were printers and fax machines. Wonder why?

O.K. according to a couple of sources, the card should be

You should be able to find a link for a driver from ATI's Page about the Mobility 9000

Except for me. I'm actually better than all of you. tongue.gif
treydog
Well, yeah. But you only say that 'cause it's true, Danny. tongue.gif

Has been very dry here in Tennessee- mowed the yard yesterday for the first time in a month and was surprised by how little growth there had been.... Still, everything is green and lots of flowers are in bloom- should see the first blossoms on some day-lilies I bought Mrs. Treydog last year. Even with the heat, I love the summer- reminds me of the days when I used to drive my '66 Mustang (yes, I am an old doggie) up to the mountains in the evenings- windows down and tape player blasting rock or blues.... the night was just so alive with possibility. Don't have the car anymore, but I have Mrs. Treydog and two grandsons- not a bad trade.
Ibis
Wow Treydog, you must be around my age. Sounds wonderful and a mustang was one of the cars that we gang of girls used to terrorize the highways with in high school. It was my friend's and then we also would all pile into my Dad's powder blue Dodge Coronet '88 that matched my eyes.
But our best car was this old Oldsmobile Rocket '88 from the '50s. (this alll happened in the late '60s) But the Rocket, for which we were most famous, was really cool and had power steering and power brakes which the Coronet didn't even have.
The reason we were famous for our two-tone green Rocket was that whenever we were displeased by waitress service in a restaurant, we were known to accidentally mow down some of their trees or shruberries when leaving the parking lot. And also, when we used to see those vain people who park their precious T-birds or Corvettes or what-ladeeda-ever car acrost 2 spaces so that no one will scratch their car ..... we'd give 'em a rear end job with the Rocket's bumpers. The Rocket was like a tank and nothing even scratched it.

Ooooh, but I'm telling how bad I used to be. I'm a very law abiding senior-almost citizen now, so don't send any cops to my house, see?

Yeh, but you live way, way up on the Northern West coast or Cain & I would come and pick you up in our little '86 back-seatless Honda Civic. lol We took the backseat out to make room for the massive cabinet speakers we have back there.
(Not the real reason but the speakers are back there - Pioneers, about 4 foot tall ones.)

So, if we were able to make this massive trip and zigzag the continent from Florida to Oregon - you'd have to bring a beanbag chair or a blowup armchair or lawn chair ... something to sit in. tee hee

Wish we had enough money to do it! I could visit my sister in Berkely while we were over that way and see if it really is grand to tour the west coast highway with a wicker basket of fried chicken picnic in the back of the car.

You'd also need to pick me up and drive me back down to san fransisco and I could hook you up with anything you needed there.

Well, laziness means that this gets copied straight from the Lurker's Lair on TESF

---------------------------------

Today was an absolute disaster for me. Earlier this week I unblocked the friend I mentioned a few posts back... we talked a bit, but it wasn't really a good time, so we didn't cover much. Today I got to talk to her again. We talked for what seemed like ages. Basically, she was fed up with me going back to this and it was making her feel uncomfortable... or something like that. My constant dwelling on 'what could have been' irritates her... and she also want on to say that she doesn't feel like we've been friends for a while now. More that she just fends off my advances because everything seems to come back to this all the time. Among other things. Like the fact that the only reason we grew so close in the first place was because we were interested in each other for a while.

After all that she said she didn't want to be friends with me anymore. I'd made being friends too difficult... 4 months after the initial rejection, I still like her and I keep going back to this. She said goodbye and then blocked me.

So... I lost someone who was very close to me today. For good it would seem. She really meant a lot to me. I'm going to miss her sad.gif

------------------------------------

I'm venting I think... I don't know what I hope to acheive
Ibis
I feel for you Ramirez. I know what it's like to lose somebody that you really love and that you can't help loving and you feel that it is so right between you .. but alas - they don't.

The only thing I know of is to go on, alone ... until you find someone who does feel and share the same attraction you have for them. And value it for all it's worth ... more than gold. Worked for me.

But I know it is very painful so like I said, I feel for you. Do come here often and be among online friends. Friendship and belonging always helps.
Ramirez
Thankyou smile.gif

It really did feel so right for me... I could sit here and list things all night but there seems little point. I just went round in circles about this too much for her.

I know I've got to go on alone now... she doesn't want anything more to do with me after this. I just don't like being alone... have been like that for too long. Would be nice to meet someone who could return what I felt for them. But I guess thats not going to happen any time soon... maybe not at all.

I don't like all this emotional pain either. I seem to continually get emotional pain without a break. Theres a limit to how much one peson can take.

This just couldn't have possibly gone worse. She really meant a lot to me... now I'll never get to speak to her again

I hear you, I also am a person who doesn't like to be alone. To me sharing makes the bad half as bad and the good twice as good.

And don't you even think for one minute that you aren't going to find a girl to share your attentions with. I've seen your pic and it is definitely going to happen. And in person, not just online. I wish I could give you a date, but that I don't know. But I can just look at you and know that there will be many girls, but one will be special.

Until then, I guess try to think of other things, if you can. Are there any games you like to play that really let your emotions out ragged?? Like Halo does for some people? I would suggest that.

What else? Get interested in anything else that will absorb you and take your mind off things. I know you like Star Trek. Whatever you like - do it. You see that I'm not giving you advice on chasing any other girls because ... that is my advice = Get interested in cool stuff, be interesting & the girls will come flocking. Then YOU can pick & choose.

I got lucky since I parcked the F150 right by the garage but the naighbors car and truck were completley sunked... I have a picture of the neighbors truck under water but I dont know how to post it here.. so yeah... and I think my mother recorded me and my step dad saving the day... this car was stuck in the water and we went to help the people move it out from the street and into their garage... and when we got in the street to push the car the water reached up to my stomach and almost to my chest, it was crazy man... and the funny thing is that when I barely woke up this morning I had no idea that most of Houston was flooded... I even went to my kitchen got a pop tart and some milk and ate staring out into the rain from my window and I could not see anything... I got the real suprise when I opened the door to go outside...

Wow that sounds really dramatic, Mazelure. Most of Houston flooded?! blink.gif Why haven't we heard anything about this on the news? Has the football WC completely taken over our media?

Anyway best of luck to you and everyone else in Houston.
Mazelure
I know for sure that most of the South Weast section of Houston is without light and it is mostly flooded as well and the North East section but I think that the rest of Houston was unaffected... and I just happened to live in the North East so that suck for me... but yeah... thanks to some miracle thel light did not go off since some people in the South Weast have been without light for allmost a whole day know... but yeah... I have the pictures of the flodded black car to the side of my house... I just dont know how to post it so if anyone wants me to email it to them and then they can post it here that would be cool...
Olav
Well I believe you for sure (in case you were wondering. We have lots of flooding in Norway as well that doesn't make it into international news, but the US events tend to reach us), and I don't like spreading my email around the 'net, but if you like to post pics here or anywhere else, or simply to archive them somewhere, this is a great site:

http://photobucket.com

You simply have to register, then point to the place on your HD where you have your pics and upload them, and then you get all sorts of links to post on forums etc. to share your pics. Best thing is that it doesn't suffer the lag problems that places like Imageshack do (at least not yet), so any pics you post load up quickly to anyone you share the link(s) with.
