Fun little coincidence today- I got an auto-mail from Amazon for a Photoshop book- so I asked my-wife-the-artist if she needed the book...

Turns out that it is one that she was asked to contribute to.
/shameless plug/ Digital Collage and Painting: Using Photoshop and Painter to Create Fine Art by Susan Ruddick Bloom /shameless plug

So, of course, she will receive a free copy.

Wow, Minque, I hadn't realized how badly the storm hit you- kind of like the tree branch that bridged the power lines at Mom and Dad's house some years ago and basically fried every radio and clock in the place. (No computers, though, they never owned one.) Anyway, welcome back.

Ayyy congrats to Mrs Treydog! That is nice to have a famous spouse huh?

Funny thing...the lightning struck on my sonīs birthday....so we call it the "Andreas-lightning" tongue.gif
Ibis
Andreas-Lightning, I bet he was honored by that. So glad you are back Minque. We all sure did miss you, and wonder at first where you'd gone off to.

I guess you guys don't get too much lightning over there but here in Florida nobody runs anything computerish without battery-backup/surge&lightning protectors. We use ACP.

I was stupid enough a few years ago to run through an APC that was not battery-backup and there was a power blip caused by our adjacent neighbors using a wrong/wiring-strength compressor and the hubby's comp was fine, but mine got fried. Had to replace nearly all hardware parts. I mean smoke actually started pouring out of the back of my comp tower...but all was not destroyed and we did get that computer running again.

But now I have a new one and the beauty thing about it is that both computers are purple. Both keyboards are also purple. I have purple chair, purple mousepad, purple gel wristpad, purple CD shelves, purple rug, purple light, purple stapler, stapler remover, scotchtape dispenser ..... I also have mostly a purple kitchen, but we won't go into that here. tee hee hee heee

Oh aye heīs honoured! In fact he named the darn lightning! Well we get some thunderstorms here, not many but still some. And we donīt protect us all that well I must admit. I had this same experience some years ago, then also a comp of mine got fried, so I bought a thunder-and-lightning-protection-device.....but as the years went by I got careless again.

One og the comps actually said" pffff" ans strated smelling bad..the other one, my lappy said nowt! The router just died in a silent way. Then I fired up my lappy as usual...figuring if I canīt be on the forums I might as well plat mw. So I did, not aware of that I was running on battery......Then when my friend checked out the lappy he found out my network-card was broken..ok..So I got the device back...but I couldnīt even start it. Back to the hacker again, measuring the voltage on different spots. So verdict: No electrical power gets into it, itīs something broken that prevents the juice to be of any use to the poor comp!

But still warranty is valid so in a couple of hours Iīm gonna phone the supplier and send the device back.Hopefully I get a brand new one, I think itīs the cheapest thing.....Oh and my harddrive, with my entire life on it is safe in my handbag!!!!
Ibis
Ahahahah ... now that is true feminine paranoia - - carrying the hard drive around in your handbag!! What did you do? Jettison all your makeup? Not a cordless mouse even would fit in my purse, I've got it so jammed pack full. In fact, it won't even zip closed if everything in it isn't aligned in their true proper order of things.

And then I carry an even bigger bag to work, raincoat folded into a pouch, mag flashlight, ID badge pouch, water bottle, magazines, pens, snack treats, etc. etc. etc.

Do you think I'm a borderline packrat?? Cain thinks so ... but no borders about it!

blink.gif
treydog
By the way, meant to mention that there is a simple piece of equipment available that adapts a laptop hard drive so it can be read by a desktop PC. We had one when I worked at the computer store. Could be most useful- check with your technically-inclined friend to see about that....
minque
Hahaha.....I recognise that! Me too has a handbad big at a suitcase and full of stuff.....wallet (small or huge depending on where Iīm going), Ipod, hairbrush, keys, USB-sticks, cellphone, mirror, lipstick, perfume, breakfast-sandwich and my lunch (if Iīm off to work), a red plush-kitty (mascot), pens, candy, ID-card for my NPP, a harddrive (80 GB), a mag-lite, a book (to read on the bus to work)..etc..etc..

So whoīs the packrat? I think I can almost compete with you Ibis!!! tongue.gif

edit: to treydog; Thanks for that useful information! Iīll certainly do that! See my entire Stories are on that harddrive...also the newly started addition of Serene!
Ibis
Whoooa ... Minque, I think you have won the coveted PackRat Award!!

Not all that would fit in my purse. Yours sounds like a combination of my purse & workbag put together. huh.gif Red plush kitty-mascot really pushed you over. haha

I do have a plushy Taz from Tazmania tazmanian-devil doll - who's job is to hold my jewelry when I am at home and don't want to wear it. But he is too big to fit in my purse. Taz also has a throne in our house consisting of a chair with a fur pillow in back & red pillow on seat, but he prefers to remain on a large Christmas tincan that I use as a table right within reach of my computer chair.

Cain bought me Taz as a surprise when he was going to the mall with a friend and asked me if I wanted anything and I said "Surprise me." He saw Taz forlornly sitting in the $1.00 sale bin and snagged him for me - - one of my favorite gifts! laugh.gif

Yes, I can understand the boredom of not having your computer running. I am right now uploading, uploading, uploading - to hotmail, to yahoo mail. to Photobucket ... trying to make sure I don't lose anything in my upcoming reformat. I always suffer from the thought that I am going to totally screw up & my computer will never work again after I format - low confidence, I'll tell ya.

This used to be alot easier when my CD witer worked ok and I just threw everything ondisk. But this is part of the reason for reformat, my new CD burner is being tempermental with what I've got running now. I've got to start new.

Although we aren't as picky about TES-related content here, I don't know if The Great Rabbit's art really fits.... However, feel free to visit Here to see some of her work. She hasn't updated in a while- she has just started working with some new acrylics- if anyone is curious, I will inquire about specifics....

Today I lost a very good friend of mine... for how long I don't know.

I emailed her and told her I still have feelings for her, and that I can't just be her friend. She just says if I ever want to be friends again then to let her know...

Seems like the only talent I have is an ability to lose friends one way or another. It isn't one of the better talents out there.

I just use a backup hardrive. Have two 200 GBs in my system. I use my backup hardrive a ton. Any program I download gets saved on there, I have a boatload of CD images on there too.

I also burn important info to a DVD, since every now and then the hardrive goes haywire. Its mainly because I got this backup hardrive for christmas, and my parents got the cheapest one while it was on rebate.

Thank you for the good suggestion, ThePerson98. In past, my hubby Cain has used his hard drive to backup my stuff fast before a reformat. Problem is, he has a very abreviated idea of what files are important to me. Anything game-related, he holds in the utmost importance; and any newer artwork I've done; but when it comes to my screenshots (which are important to me as reference material) he sees them as taking up too much room & doesn't include them. So now I do it myself - being ruthless to anything I don't really need.
==================
Ramirez, so sorry to hear about your friend. Do I hear some romance between the lines there? If so, even sorrier to hear her go. Sounds like you should accept the friendship offer and go from there. But don't listen to me, I am only guessing.
===============
WOW! Treydog, your little bunny wife is TREMENDOUSLY TALENTED!! Please ask her if she'd mind if I would keep a small folder of some of her work in my archived CD's. I did that with a Texas artist friend of mine who later passed of early heart failure (only in his late 50's.) But I was so glad that I saved some of his artwork. He was a good scenery painter too ... something that really eludes me as an artist.
All of Mrs. Treydog's art is so beautiful, it's hard to pick any favorites. Here are the one's I loved the best though:
Traditional Paintings = Curb Appeal, Blue Canopy, September Splash, Hidden Treasures.
Monotypes = House of the Dove, Dancing with Rabbits
Digital Paintings = Streams of Light, Healing Waters, Savanah Marsh
The wondrous effects of living in the Smokey Mountains shows in her work, you all must be very happy there. As to the weather, it is so killer hot and muggy here in Florida that you even sweat when you go outside at 10 oclock at night in the dark.

Pretty much... although its a little more obvious that between the lines. I like being friends with her, but the constant desire for more than that is rather difficult for me to deal with. I don't want to settle for just that... hell, it's where I've been stuck since she told me she didn't want more than friendship 3 months back.

Miss her already sad.gif
DoomedOne
"I just want to be friends" is code for "try harder." The way I've experienced it, a lot of the time when a girl thinks of you only as a friend it means you haven't provided the proper stimulus. You just have to sort of sweep her off her feet.

Anyway, guess what?

I'm graduating wednesday from Highschool, going on to bigger and better things, highschool was a horrible, horrible place.
Ibis
Congrats Doomed!! What better things do you have planned?

I think you may be right about the "I just want to be friends" thing. Sometimes it could just mean that the girl is in a place in her life when more intimate emotional attachments aren't what she wants for some reason. The thing is to find out that reason without being intrusive. And being "the friend" is a good way to do that. Bel there, close enough to be a confidant - and more may happen later. If she wanted to just not see you anymore she'd say so.

Woa! Nice plans for the future! biggrin.gif We need more activists working for social justice and environmental protection, go for it doomed!

Also, that was my exact same thoughts after I finished high school.. And well, it's true, you do get a lot more time for the stuff you really like to do. Unless you take a superheavy program in university that takes all your time..

Ramirez: That's sad! I know how you feel, felt like that once with a girl. I agree on doomedOnes statement though, the fact that she still wants to be friends with you is good, you should keep being a friend and look for what makes her world rock biggrin.gif. A hint though, don't be too pushy, be active, but not pushy, you'll notice how much easier it is to discover feelings when a little time has passed so that she can start missing you wink.gif.

Well, now that we're into this love-stuff I might aswell contribute with my love-problems smile.gif. I was kind of picked up (is that how it's called) by a girl a few weeks ago and we talked for a long time and I was like, wow, she's really sweet. So we still seeing eachother, chatting, sms:ing, etc.. but I don't quite take the step to go further. So we become quite good friends and start revealing pretty secret stuff about ourselves, and then suddenly she tells why she's been depressed the last days..

She sais there's someone she'd very much like to share her life with but she don't know how to tell it to him... So I got quite shocked, here I thought I was about to get a funny, beautiful, intelligent girlfriend when she tells me that.. But I keep being the friend I was, we've had great fun together, although it's hard knowing that she don't longe care for me the was it appeared the first day we met.

Oh jikes.. I hope this doesn't become a relation-counceling board wacko.gif, I did this just so Ramirez doesn't feel that alone biggrin.gif. (Kidding)

You've gotten used to the smell of cow manure on a car trip to Raleigh. Saying "y'all" isn't just a cute expression; it actually means something. There are big labrador retrievers in the back of every truck. You give directions using KFC and Waffle House as landmarks. You still see Dale Earndheart tributes on cars. You can't imagine life without Bojangles' sweet tea Your annual church fundraiser always deals with bbq and potato salad You have a sunburn from May to October Your 'heavy winter clothing' consists of some turtleneck sweaters, a fuzzy jacket, and your daddy's boots Your family has fried chicken once a week You can tell the difference between cotton fields and tobacco fields while driving One of your neighbors has a confederate flag hanging on their front porch Those "yankees" are taking over your school/church/workplace/neighborhood... You've been "properly raised", and yankees love it when they hear you say "ma'am" and "sir" You get your carbs from biscuits, rolls, pancakes, and grits You know the difference between a "redneck" and a "hick". You own at least one surf shop or seafood restaurant shirts. No matter what those people in ohio say, we are still "first in flight" The Coca-Cola 600 is as big as the Super Bowl You prefer Chick-fil-a to KFC You know pastry is a chicken stew, not a dessert item. Every time you visit someone you're offered something to eat and a glass of tea. Your granddaddy always wore overalls and your grandma always wore an apron. In summer you have home-grown tomatoes with every meal. When it rains and the creek rises, everyone gathers to see how high it rose. You know that "chunk" the ball means to throw it. You've had a burger "all the way" - chili and slaw on it. You can recognize a copperhead and your heart drops when you see one. You have at least one relative that raises collards. Your folks have taken trips to the mountains to look at leaves. Your school classes were cancelled because of a hurricane. You know Krispy Kreme makes the best doughnut. You have an opinion about UNC. You went there and loved it, or you hate everyone who did. You know the best BBQ is found in Lexington You would rather eat at Bojangles's than McDonald's You have actually uttered the phrase "It's too hot to go to the pool" You faithfully drink Pepsi or Mt. I befriended a young (choose one) "lass" "lady" "girl" (Young girl just sounds wrong so choose lass instead) laugh.gif

As our friendship grew, so did my feelings for her, (feelings, I had some of those as well)
But unlike you I didn't tell her how I felt about her cuz I told my self that I will tell her when the time is right and all will work out.
The right time never came and I had to endeur the torture of seeing her with a nother (choose one) "guy" "girl" "kajiit" (wich ever spices up my pathetic attempt at happiness) huh.gif
I would rather have my fingers in a meat grinder and know I will still hold her afterwards than see her with another "guy" "girl" "kajiit" and never hold her again.
We drifted apart and evryday I wonder... What if?

Dude you still have a chance... Use it!

I agree that Ramirez should filll the role of friendship that this girl presently needs (when she wants you as a friend she indicates that she doesn't want to lose you totally in her life) & be there for her. More may develop later.

Foster
I'm glad yesterday is now yesterday. Kind of a day of up and downs.

Up: It turns out that I've actually already got a degree (a BSc. in Pharmaceutical Studies) that nobody bothered telling me about. So no matter what...I have a degree.

Down: Yesterday's exam was THE exam from hell. Imagine the nastiest, evilest, vilest exam that left a good third of the year crying outside. That was the kind of exam they set. I well and trully screwed up 25% of it, meaning that I've got to scrap a pass on the other 3/4 - and that is going to be tough, considering what it was on.

It's the kind of exam where you would leave and throw up, if it weren't for the need to console friends.

And of course I have to do it all again in 12 hours. Joy. I'm going to get sleep.
Red
Sorry to hear that Foster, hope you can get some sleep. I'm glad my mind bending exams over with a while ago, and its good to hear you have a degree.

Today to celebrate 6/6/06 I faked a demonic snap and pretended to be speaking in tounges and went and saw the Omen (a remake of Rosemary's Baby). I thought the movie was great because it wasn't one of the "scary" movies that have been coming out lately with a predictable, overdeveloped plot and a single scary part (*cough*M.NightShamalan*cough). It would draw you into a terrible scare by giving a frightning visual and audio ambiance and when you expected something, it would calm you down. When you thought it was all well and good, it would throw a fast pitch. The story was very good too, and if you've seen the original movie don't worry about predicting every line. All in all, it was pretty much a Phycho-Da Vinci Code hybrid. Also, I recommend seing it at the theatres, and beware the color red when solid.

i'm not really from NC..but i've been here long enough to apply to this thinggy.lol.
Dew everyday of your life. You have your own secret bbq sauce. You or your neighbors have more hunting dogs than you have family members.

Oh man, I got a kick out of that. laugh.gif Guess you have to be from NC to get it because nobody else seemed to notice it.

Ibis
I noticed it and think it is very cute. A few of the things reminded me a bit of Texans but not really. I guess NC is a place all its own. Sounds like my kinda place to live though. smile.gif
minque
Oh but I noticed.....and I found it very amusing.....itīs like our picture of true americans.....in a positive way Iīd say...
Ibis
Hahaha, Minque ... that's funny. Because that example seems quaint to most Americans. We kind of wish things were still like that. It's more like the way things used to be in America but many of the examples were purely from NC and nowhere else I have heard of. biggrin.gif
