It's been confirmed the legion will not be joinable as a faction, which I think is kind of right considering the empire becomes overrun by daedra. It would be funny to go into a wrecked tower, talk to a leader and he tells you to go rescue a slave while daedra are attacking outside....
Sad isn't it? Oblivion is truly going to be quality instead of quantity this time ....

what if going into the imperial legion is part of the story line? techinically you dont join but you become a part of it or something
something in the latest interview sparked this idea but i dont remember what.

Imperial Legion is a large part of the main quest, and they can't be a joinable faction for a nhumber of reasons:
You'll be dealing with some high-ranking members for main quests, possibly the dragon, but if it were a jojnable faction you could end up as the dragon, which wouldn't make sense.
At one point its incredibly likely you will be leading the legions into battle, or the heir. If you started the in the legion as and never went very far then it'd be strange for them to take orders from a low-ranked legionaire.
It will probably be part of the main quest to join the Blades, probably one of the means of beating the game (remember he said many roads to finish the game but you end up at the same place). It sort of defeats the purpose of being a Blade if you're a Legionaire.

You couldn't advance to the top in the Ashlanders or Blades. They could have done it like that...

I never liked the imperials that much, i was always more of a Dunmer man, so I'm not pushed really.

Well what I meant is that since you can't join it like you want to it's still the four only confirmed factions... compared to Morrowinds whopping heap of stuff. Of course the legion will be in the main quest, but as an optional faction and stuff no.
I'm not sure of the Blades, but I would assume somewhere they would be introduced..

Let's hope that the joinable factions have some really intracate story line to make up for there being so few.

Bethesda stated being the highest ranking person in a guild, (master or whatever) now is more rewarding then ever. That sounds very interesting, maybe they finally worked out that Masters need to do stuff too...

Yea, in morrowind once you hit master, you pick up your reward and you're done with the guild. As for the imperials, I never even tried to join them as they felt so dull. I'm glad they replaced the Morag Tong with the Dark Brotherhood, being an evil assassin is so much more fun then killing someone, then showing your paper and walking away.
