Kiln
Alright for anyone who wishes to read the first six chapters, here's the link: http://www.waiting4oblivion.com/forums/ind...p?showtopic=675
I would recommend reading them, they're likely the best of the story.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 7

Kiln walked around town pointlessly until dark, he wasn't tired. He couldn't help but wonder what trouble York was in and how he needed his help. He walked back towards the Eight Plates and entered.

Tomorrow he would go to the fort. It would be an awkward return even though he'd heard Larrius had left days before, off to Gnisis for his evaluation. Larrius was quite corrupt, perhaps he'd been discovered.

Kiln sat with Rami and the drunks listening to them laugh and sing. He stared at Rami's face when she wasn't paying attention, amazed at her beauty. The most popular drink was likely flin but he drank what he always had, the bitter but effective mazte.

He poured more of the drink for himself, watching the brown liquor flow softly from the opening and into the tall mug. At the moment everything seemed perfect but things never stayed like that for long in his experience.

In the morning he would get his armor repaired, buy some supplies and food and wait until the following day to meet York at the fort.

Kiln opened the journal and read more of it's pages,

"Today I talked to Caius again, he wants me to speak with some stupid orc in the mage's guild about doing a favor or something, I'm nothing but an errand boy I swear..."

Kiln thought for a moment, he'd met with the same orc...strange how their paths had led together so many times but it was probably nothing. For now he would sleep and worry more about that later, he put the journal back into it's pouch and lied it beside the bed.

Rami walked in lying down beside him and he fell into a deep sleep holding her close to him.

Sorry it's so short but my pain meds suck and I'm getting off soon.

Very nice Kiln....really . Good descriptions....I like it very much.

One question:

who is reading the journal entry, York or Kiln?

see this:

York opened the journal and read more of it's pages,

I fixed it Minque, I'm getting off for now...stupid pain medication distorting reality... sad.gif
minque
Awww are you ill? and still makes wonderful updates? wow
Kiln
Nope no illness...I just got back from ear surgery yesterday...and the pain medication sucks...anyways enough about that for now I'm off to bed...later.

well good update Kiln, and hope you feel better.
Kiln
Kiln awoke the next day and slowly crawled out of bed trying not to wake Rami from her sleep. He collected his things and slowly closed the door behind him.

The drunks were back already, Kiln laughed as he walked to the doorway and left the building. It was already past noon by the look of things, he'd definately slept in later than he'd hoped.

He staggered through the street towards the armorer's shop nearby and opened the door slowly. He was greeted by the elf behind the counter,

"Hello, welcome to my shop...do you need something in particular sir?" he asked politely

"I'll just have a look about if you don't mind." Kiln replied looking over the various types of armor

"So...why do you need a new set of armor? If you don't mind me asking that is..." the wood elf said trying to start a conversation

"No reason...just thought I might get into a little mercenary work." Kiln said not revealing anything, mostly because he didn't know

"Really? Are you searching for new armor or would you like repairs on that chestplate of yours?" he asked clearly trying to find any way to make a profit

Kiln looked down at his chestplate, untied the straps, and lied it on the counter.

"How soon could you have this done and how much would it cost me?" Kiln asked

"I could have it done by sunset at least...maybe sooner. I could do it for about eighty gold." he said looking the armor over

"Eighty gold? I could buy a new chestplate for less than that. Forty." Kiln said trying to get a better price

"Fifty...sounds fair to me." the armorer said

"Fourty five and no higher." Kiln said

"Fine then, fourty five it is...I'll have it done by sundown" he said as he picked up the chestplate looking it over

Kiln was satisfied so he went to the next order of business, new clothing. His current clothing was horribly ripped and torn all over, it was time for a change.
He walked up the stairway in the center of town and into the clothier's shop.

Milie was such a nice woman and he regreted all the times he'd stolen from her previously but those days were behind him now. After a while of looking around the shop and asking prices and such he agreed to pay her for some common looking brown pants, a shirt, and new shoes.

They weren't anything special but they were a step up from what he'd been wearing so he was happy, he went around looking at various shops until nightfall when he went to pick up his chestplate.

"Here you go." the short bosmer said as he handed Kiln the chestplate

"This is...very good." Kiln said, amazed at the work

"It's as good as new, spread the word of my work friend." he said as he accepted the money for the repairs

Kiln paid him sixty gold instead of the agreed fourty five and left the shop towards the Eight Plates. He walked in and laughed as the drunks danced and Dulnea glared at them,

"Get off my table!" She yelled madly at the drunks

The random things that happened at the pub made it Kiln's favorite spot to stay. He watched as Dulnea went upstairs into the store room and came down with a broom, swatting at the three men dancing on the table until they came down.

She continued to yell as he went down to his room where Rami was sitting on the bed. He knew he would have to explain to her that he was leaving soon, but could not find the words. He laid down, worried and unable to sleep.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hated having to go through these days in my story...I wish I'd had York say "Meet me tomorrow" rather than two days...just slows things down too much...
Soulseeker3.0
lol oh well that was good kiln, granted you had that big space of time between the clother and the armourer, I think you did a pretty good job.

it's those small mistakes that keep us from saying the same old thing everytime tongue.gif
BobV
Very good updatesesss.
minque
Nice details here, the business with the armorer and Milie! Adds reality to the story and I like that......well written as well!!

goodjob.gif cake.gif
treydog
Don't be too concerned about the "extra" days- you used the time to include some necessary activity, which (as Minque says) adds reality. The other thing to remember is that, as the writer, you can use time however you wish- you don't have to account directly for every hour- for ex.
"The next 3 days passed in a blur of preparations, planning, exhausted sleep, and worry."

Zip- 3 days gone in one sentence blink.gif
Dantrag
I think I've gotten rid of six years in a sentence before...
Kiln
Kiln hadn't slept a bit, he was worried about York. Today was the day they were to meet at the fort and he still hadn't told Rami about why he was leaving. In truth, he didn't know either.

He sat up from the bed still tired as Rami stared at him.

"Rami...I have to leave today." Kiln said putting his hand on her shoulder

"Where are you going?" she asked clearly concerned

"Don't worry about me, I'll return when I can." he said

"You're leaving me?" she said looking away from him and at the floor

Kiln gently grabbed her chin and turned her head to look at him before kissing her.

"I am not leaving you Rami. I'll only be gone for a while, I will return." he said reassuringly

"How do I know you'll return?" she asked staring at him

Kiln dug through his pack for a moment and pulled a small dagger from it,

"Keep Greed's dagger until I return." he said handing her the small jeweled dagger

She took it and kissed him goodbye before he left the building. The tired walk to the fort seemed like it took hours this time, when he finally arrived at the gates he sat down and looked around carefully searching for York.

A big broad man walked up with a cloak over his head and put his hand on his shoulder,

"I'm glad you decided to come Kiln." the familiar voice of Jinx, the man from the cell across from him

"We've been waiting for a while now." York said as he walked up beside Kiln and Jinx

"Now will you explain what's going on York?" Kiln asked as softly as his dark elf voice allowed

York helped him to his feet and they began walking back towards Balmora.

"Alright Kiln, I was enlisted in the blades shortly after I arrived on Morrowind. My task has been to successfully portray to the people of this land that I am in fact the incarnate of the Nerevarine, the ancient hero Morrowind." York said giving him time to think for a moment

"You are a blade?" Kiln said pretending to be surprised, he'd already made the connection between the spymaster and York some time ago

"Yes and so is Jinx here." York said looking at the breton

They were nearing town now.

"Let me be honest with you Kiln, though York may in fact be the incarnate, he still will need our help with a few things along the way." Jinx explained

"Where are we going?" Kiln asked

"To visit Caius...after I told him about how you dealt with Greed, he wanted to know if you'd join the team." York said

"Why didn't you just say to meet at Caius' house?" Kiln asked somewhat annoyed

Listen, all will be explained after your meeting with the spymaster.

"Caius? A spymaster?" a random man on the street said apparently overhearing their conversation

York turned and glared at him,

"Jinx!" he said pointing at the man

Jinx looked at him and chanted strange indistinctive words and unleashed a powerful spell towards him,

"That should do it." Jinx said looking at the man

"Hello, have we met? Where am I?" the old man asked confused

"I'm afraid you've hit your head rather hard sir, perhaps you should go to the temple and have yourself looked at sir." Jinx said to him

The man obeyed and they continued on to Caius' house nocking on the door lightly.

"Did you bring more booze?" a voice yelled from inside

"No sir, we've brought you Kiln." York yelled

"What in oblivion is a Kiln? I want booze." the voice yelled back at him

"Sir, we have returned with the man you wanted to speak to." Jinx yelled nocking again on the locked door

"No Kilns until I've had my booze." he yelled

"Caius, don't do this again...just open the door." York yelled

Silence followed and then the sound of a bottle breaking against the door showed that they weren't getting in without booze.

"Jinx, go fetch a bottle of brandy." York commanded

They sat down beside the door to await his return.

Kiln
Warning:After reading this you'll never think of Kiln the same again... wink.gif
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jinx finally returned with the bottle of brandy and knocked on the door of the home once again.

"We have your booze sir." Jinx said loudly

Someone stumbling around the house tipped over something heavy and opened the door slightly,

"Show it to me!" he said holding out his hand

Jinx held the bottle and the man inside snatched it from him and pulled the cork from the lid.

"Hmmmm....this is good brandy." he said opening the door and waving them inside

As York and Jinx stepped in Kiln watched them set the table back up and York whispered something to Caius. After a few moments the old white haired imperial stood from the bed and walked a few steps before leaning over on Kiln.

"So you...are Kiln? You don't look like much of a warrior." Caius said looking him over and nearly falling over backwards before Jinx caught him

"So can he help us or not sir?" York asked Caius

"So you want to join the blades?" Caius said now sitting on the bed

Kiln stood for a moment thinking of the possibilities of becoming a spy and the fact that York needed his help.

"Yes sir, what must I do?" Kiln asked the old drunk

"Well...can you dance?" he asked laughing at him

"I suppose...when the situation calls for it..." Kiln said before being cut off by the happy old man

"Excellent! Dance." he said laughing

Kiln danced around by himself for a few moments, this was the ultimate act of humiliation.

Caius threw a skirt in the middle of the floor,

"Now put that on." he yelled between drinks of the brandy

"Forget this, I'm out of here." Kiln said kicking the skirt back at him

"Alright...thats enough...most men wouldn't have gone that far to join us." Caius stood seeming at least three times more sober as he shook his head

York and Jinx laughed at him. Had this been some sick test of loyalty? Apparently so...at least he'd passed it.

They led him outside and explained to him that they were heading off to some distant ashlander tribe to see if York can get them to test him against the nerevarine prophecies and they wanted Kiln to act as an escort.

"We can only allow you to go with us on one condition." York said seriously

"What would that be?" Kiln asked

"No more dancing." York said looking at him

They were off to the Silt Strider port to go to the nearest town and make their way to the camp on foot.

I really like your story, Kiln. Great idea to weave the Journal and Kiln's experiences together. At least, I haven't come across this before in the MW fan fiction. I read your last thread with the story but it was closed due to the many posts. I'm happy to see that you've continued the story in a new thread. smile.gif

"The Story of Kiln the Not-Dancer" Hmm- has a nice sound. Great updates, with a nice sketch of Caius at his worst. Shall be interesting to see what happens with the Ashlanders.
Kiln
As they arrived at the silt strider and paid for the ride Kiln started to wonder just what they were doing. It hadn't really been explained too well and he was still quite confused.

All Kiln knew was that he was acting as a bodyguard and companion to York. They had mentioned going to a camp of some sort but they didn't say which camp or why they were going there or even where the silt strider was taking them.

York motioned for him to climb aboard the giant bug with him and Jinx and the ride began. It was night now and quite cold outside so Kiln lied down and covered up with one of the blankets the captain had given them.

"Thats a good idea, we'd all better get some sleep." York said covering himself as well

Jinx leaned back against the wall quietly resting as the strider rocked and breathed loudly. It was hard sleeping on a moving silt strider though it was soft and warm inside of it's shell, they were still moved around quite a bit.

It seemed like only a moment of sleep before he was awoken by the strider master. He stood up and looked around, they were clearly in Ald Ruhn. Kiln had lived here as a child. Before his mother had become ill, he'd pledged never to return after his father killed himself yet there he was in his hometown.

"Something wrong Kiln?" Jinx asked stepping off the strider and continuing down the slope without waiting for an answer

Kiln continued to think about his past and a few minutes passed in silence.

"Aye, are you okay?" York asked grabbing his shoulder and shaking him lightly

"I...I'm fine...what are we doing here?" Kiln asked

"First I need to visit a friend of mine here before we go to the ashlander camp, I need to find out a bit about their customs so we can fit in better...it is best if we do not offend them in any way." York said grabbing his bags from inside the beast

"What camp are we going to?" Kiln asked

"Urshilaku or something like that..." York said

"How far is it?" Kiln asked

"From here we will go to Khuul, the small fishing villiage on the coast." York said

"What should I do until then?" Kiln asked

"Whatever you like, train your skills, drink, or you could always dance." York laughed and headed down the slope and into town

Kiln stood for a moment and walked slowly towards his parent's old house. He'd lived there so long ago but now it was just a distant memory.

His mother and father used to travel, all over Morrowind, staying gone for weeks at a time. One time they returned from one of their trips days short of their planned time, his mother was sick with a blight disease.

His father begged her to see a priest but she refused and it grew worse until one day she died. His father was driven mad by the loss and drank constantly, finally commiting suicide, leaving his son to fend for himself.

At the age of eighteen Kiln wasn't ready for the responsibility that followed and he lost his home and started the life of an adventurer, which had led him to this moment when he would return to his home.

He approached the door and knocked gently.

Good update where we learn more about Kiln's background.

Edit: By the way, you should spell 'knocked' with a silent k in front, no offence meant.
Kiln
There, all fixed. Thanks for pointing that out. smile.gif

I am EXTREMELY offended though.... wink.gif

If you have a complaint, feel free to voice it. It doesn't bother me.
Neck' Thall
no i said compliments! Thats as in i like it but i cant say it right...
Kiln
The door creaked open slowly and a tall dunmer man stood in the entrance,

"Can I help you?" he said staring at him

"I was wondering if I could come inside and have a look around, you see I used to live here, years ago." Kiln said politley

"You seem familiar, what's your name?" he asked strangely

"I am Kiln, I was rai..." he started but was quickly cut off by the man

"Kiln! Oh what a pleasant surprise, come inside and have a drink." He said walking inside leaving the door wide open

"I'm sorry, do I know you?" Kiln said somewhat confused

"Kiln, I'm Lenas Serandas, you remember at school when we were younger?" he laughed

Kiln stopped for a moment and thought back, this was all very hard for him to accept.

"It's great to see you old friend, it has been a long time." Kiln said

"Too long. What brings you here Kiln? Business or pleasure?" he said with a smile

"Just passing through, how have things been Lenas?" Kiln asked

"Things have been great, my parents bought your old place before they passed, and I've lived here since then." Lenas told him

"I'm glad to see everything is in order Lenas, how did your parents pass? If I may ask." Kiln said

A few moments of silence passed and Kiln decided it was best to leave it alone. Lenas continued to drink the brandy and sat in a chair. He burst out crying and covered his face with his hands.

"All is not well Kiln, my life has been horrible." he said crying

"What's wrong?" Kiln asked slowly

"I gambled and drank all my parent's money away, now I can't afford to pay for my house. I even sold my family's prized silverware to pay for my debts. Hell, I can't even afford to pay for my clothes." he said continuing to cry

Kiln sat there for a moment before saying anything.

"What can I do to help?" Kiln asked hoping he could help his childhood friend

"Just take these clothes back to the people who sold them to me." He said stripping down into an old worn out skirt and handing Kiln the clothes and a piece of paper noting where all the clothes are supposed to go

Kiln took the clothing and left the house to return it to the rightful owners, still not sure how to help Lenas. Perhaps Lenas would have to help himself, Kiln could only do so much for him even if they were old friends.

He glanced down at the list and looked around for a nearby shop.
minque
Ahh..ok so he met his old friend...well he surely was kind to him and that pleases me....

Good writing here, you makle the charachters very vivid....canīt wait for the next update... cake.gif cake.gif goodjob.gif goodjob.gif

Nice additions showing Kiln's past. A very imaginative way of working "side quests" into the fabric of your story, as well.
Soulseeker3.0
I was gonig to say something like when Trey said So i'll just say great job and keep up the good work!
Neck' Thall
I like...but a guy is wearing a skirt?!? i know its his only piece of clothing, but still...
Lucidarius
Really good update. I like how Kiln at first doesn't remember his old school friend. Then as they talk the friend cries and tells about his past. You incorporate this misc. quest very realistically.
Kiln
A skirt is the piece of clothing he wears in the game, so thats why he's wearing it.
Anyways I'm glad everyone liked the way I incorporated this quest even though it's not really all that important to the story, just helps pass the time.

Edit:I'll update soon.
Kiln
The clothing mission with my own little twist to it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kiln didn't want to take the clothes back for him, the task had been thrust upon him but since he had told him he would he would help him he entered the building and asked the shopkeeper about Lenas' debts. He spoke with Daynes Redothril, and gave the rings to him first.

He walked around for hours returning Lenas' clothes, he'd given all the items back besides the enchanted shoes. He entered the final shop to return the shoes. This is where things got interesting.

Kiln saw a man wearing an expensive looking robe and figured that must be the man to talk to. He took the shoes and lied them on the table in front of him.

"I've come to return the enchanted shoes you sold Lenas Sarandas." Kiln said glad to finally be done returning the clothes

"I am quite glad to see these returned." he said slowly

"So am I sir, believe me." Kiln said with a half bow and he turned to walk away

"Excuse me." the enchanter said roughly

"Yes?" Kiln turned back facing him

"Where is my gold?" he asked darkly

"What gold?" Kiln replied

"The gold he owes for the shoes." he replied

"I've given them back to you." Kiln said with a puzzled look on his face.

"Yes, but that was not our arrangement, our arrangement was fifty septims." he said staring at him

"Listen old man, I returned the shoes okay? No payment." Kiln turned but a stern hand landed on his shoulder

A redoran guard stood there without a helmet, smiling.

"I suggest you pay the fee sir. Else I can't guarantee your safety." he said cocking his head sideways

"I don't owe any fee. I returned the damn shoes." Kiln argued

Kiln was confused now, what was going on? He wasn't about to pay a fee for the shoes he'd returned so he pulled away from the guard and continued to try and leave.

Soon after pulling from the guard's grip he realised just how bad of an idea it was, the guard landed a hard hit upside his head. Kiln turned, blood ran from his jaw.

Anger flowed over him as the guard laughed at him, and stared, still waiting for him to return the payment.

"Give us what we deserve." the guard said waiting

"Okay then." Kiln said

He drew back and puched the guard hard in the side of the head, knocking him to the floor and took off running for the doorway, spells followed from scrolls and spells cast by the enchanter.

He slammed the door behind him and ran for the entrance, he was nearly there when the enchanter's door flew open and the guard emerged.

"Get him! He knocked me out and robbed the shopkeeper!" he yelled pointing to Kiln who was leaving the main entrance

He ran for Lenas' house opening the door and going inside.

"Lenas, the guards are after me." he said

Lenas grabbed him and told him to get under the bed, the sheets and blankets hung low so he would not be discovered.

The guards entered and questioned Lenas.

"Where is the man you asked to return your clothing?" a guard yelled

"I don't know, he hasn't returned." he replied

The guard backhanded him and he fell to the floor.

"Liar! Where is he?" the guard yelled louder than before

"I've told you I don't know." Lenas said staring at him and the other guards that had entered behind him

The guard kicked him in the stomach several times and spat on him. Kiln barely contained himself, Lenas just shook his head left and right, encouraging him not to come out.

"Fine...we'll be keeping a close eye on you." the guard said motioning for the other guards to leave and he followed, slamming the door behind him

After the guards left Kiln crawled out from under the bed quickly rushing to Lenas.

"I thought redoran were supposed to be honorable." Kiln said

"Apparently not these redoran." he laughed as if nothing had happened

"I need to leave, I've already caused you enough trouble." Kiln said

"You've helped me Kiln, I know this doesn't sound at all like me but...rather than letting the redoran have my house to give away, I'll sell it to the temple. I'll live at the local temple and learn their ways." he said in a serious tone

"I hope all is well with you Lenas, here take this." Kiln said handing him a bag of gold for the trouble he'd caused

Lenas accepted and handed him a hooded cloak.

"You'll need this." he said watching Kiln leave

Kiln waited at the strider dock as he'd been told, watching the guards patrolling the area carefully.
Neck' Thall
kool...but i'm wondering if the men are just stupid or very, VERY corrupt.
treydog
Interesting twist- I guess Kiln really can't "go home again." And I wonder if the enchanter was really the merchant or just an opportunist...
minque
Ayye......Poor Kiln, thatīs what you get when you try to help out huh? That guy....Lenas..are you by any chance inspired by Ienas Sarandas? The man who actually did give everything away to the temple?........

Kiln
Completely inspired by him Minque, that's his name in the story, you probably missed one of the updates. I just took that side-quest for him and made it my own.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kiln heard talking and saw Jinx and York emerge from behind the mage's guild.
He stood and made his way to them quickly.

"We have to leave now." Kiln whispered

"You sound worried, what's wrong?" he asked

"I had a run in with the guards earlier. We should go as soon as possible." Kiln said quickly

A group of guards walking through town spotted them talking and moved towards them slowly. There were only a few of them, they were the men that had been looking for him.

York grabbed Kiln and motioned to Jinx, they began walking past the ruined wall and out of town, the guards following close behind. Once far enough out of town they stopped and waited on the guards.

Kiln took this time to count the guards. There were six, and they were clearly bigger and tougher than Kiln and Jinx but maybe York could make up for that, he still hadn't seen Jinx fight and was unsure of what to expect.

The guards stopped and drew their blades, the leader smiled.

"A nasty little rumor is going around that you were the one that killed all of the Commona Tong in Balmora." he said accusingly

Finally this made since, they were commona tong disguised as guards. Kiln tapped the hilt of his sword and stared at the man.

Kiln had a big problem with his mouth getting him in trouble and this was no exception. These men had been looking for trouble the moment they realised who he was in the enchanter's shop and he was gonna give it to them.

"Yeah I killed them, every single one...and I enjoyed killing those scoundrels." Kiln said taunting him

"Well that certainly is good to know." he said jabbing at his head with his blade

The blade missed Kiln's head and York pushed him back, stepping in front of him

The guard stepped closer and York pulled his blade.

"Not a step closer scum...else you won't live to regret it." he said in his usual calm tone

The leader made a quick hand signal and one of the men jumped at York, he brought his blade up and jabbed it in the incredibly small between his chestplate and greaves.

Kiln could hear Jinx whispering softly, but he couldn't understand what he was saying. The groups stood glancing at each other for a few moments before the commona tong members all moved at once, towards them.

Jinx thrust his hands forward releasing a huge burst of flame at one of the thugs, which fell to the ground, screaming in pain. Kiln brought the old shield he'd found up just in time to block two hits coming at him at once.

One of the attackers was thrown off balance and Kiln brought his sword down upon him in a hard chopping motion, hitting him in the back.

Kiln watched the man he was fighting but he kept an eye on York and Jinx as well. Jinx was clearly an excellent battlemage and York was awesome with a blade.

Lost in thought, Kiln didn't realise that his opponent was about to try and stab him. York, having finished with the men who attacked hin, turned and killed his opponent. Jinx had dispatched his attackers as well.

"You're not bad Kiln...but you'd better keep training if you wanna survive in the ashlands." Jinx said patting him on the shoulder

"Lets get out of here before the real guards show up and find us with all these bodies." York said turning and moving back towards town

They all climbed the slope and asked the man to take them to Khuul, he agreed and they stepped inside the beast. It started in the direction of Khuul.

"It'll be nightfall before we arrive there." Jinx said

"Will it take that long?" Kiln asked

"It's a long ride there, the tribesmen are expecting us." York said

Kiln pressed his back against the shell of the creature and thought of his home, the way it used to be when he was a child. Kiln lied down and tried to sleep but the sun was still in his eyes.

"You're gonna sleep during the day Kiln?" Jinx asked

"Perhaps this way I'll wake up when we arrive." he said turning on his side

His head was filled with thoughts of doubt and several questions as he fell asleep.
Why had he agreed to go along with this quest with so little information? How were Dulnea and Rami doing? What was York's importance in this whole mess and what had his father done?

He hoped the journal would explain them but right now he was too tired to read so he slept. Dreams came of his "Master" and bade him to serve him. But those dreams left quickly he woke up to his father shaking him violently.

"Time for school son." he said smiling

"Dad?" Kiln replied

"Your mother made breakfast." his father said grabbing clothing from his closet

"But dad..." Kiln whined

"I know you don't like your mother's cooking but could you at least pretend to like it?" his father asked

"I guess but it's so..." Kiln started but was cut off by his father

"It makes her so happy when you tell her you like it...run along downstairs now and eat your breakfast." he commanded in a soft tone

"Yes father." Kiln said walking down the stairs

He arrived at the table and sat down to eat. His mother turned around.

"Wake up Kiln...wake up."

She began shaking him and he awoke to see Jinx shaking him.

"We've arrived." he said standing up

Kiln stood and looked around.

"What happened?" he asked

"Nothing, just you were sleeping well...anyways lets go." Jinx said taking a few steps

Kiln was confused and though he'd slept for a long time he was still tired. He followed York to the town. It was a small village consisting of shacks and one small shop. They entered and Kiln sat by the fire warming himself as York spoke with the owner.

Kiln
While near the fire, Kiln removed the journal from his pack and opened it to where he'd left off.

"The orcish lady is clearly insane, she wants me to enter a tomb and steal a skull for her. The strangest request since I arrived on this island, well the second strangest request since I arrived. I'll walk to this tomb though and retrieve the skull for the sole reason that if I don't Caius will make me dance again..."

Kiln laughed at the journal, glad he hadn't been the only one forced to do this humiliating little dance.

York realised he was reading the journal, he rushed over beside him, reading along,

"You should've seen all the skeletons and ghosts in the tomb. Damn bonewalkers, note to self 'visit healer'. I left the tomb and returned the skull to her and what do I get? Another paper for Caius. Do I get a thank you or a reward? No...all I get is a stupid note for Caius."

Kiln smiled and York just read along silently with that emotionless look on his face.

"I returned the note to Caius and he asked me to rest and take a while off before I go to vivec. He gave me a paper of people to speak with about information. More confounded papers no doubt. Anyways I'll rest at the Eight Plates and get this over with tomorrow and perhaps the next day if it takes that long."

Kiln stood and walked outside, the fire inside was a little too hot for him and thoughts of his parents were returning to him, he needed to go outside and clear his head so he walked down near the boat on the wood planks, the dock basically made up a porch for all the houses there.

Kiln stared into the deep dark waters and a hand grabbed his shoulder.

"Hey friend, I gotta tell ya, I'm glad you recommended me to be sent on a task. I would've never gotten out of that prison otherwise." he said

"What was your task Jinx?" Kiln asked cautiously

"Had to go and....well...the water sure is dark down there." he said avoiding the topic

"Yes it is...cold down there as well I'll bet." Kiln said

Apparently his task had been as gruesome as Kiln's task had been but he had completed his and Kiln had not.

"Where did you come from before this Jinx?" Kiln asked

"I'm from Tel Branora, born and raised. I left just a few years ago, seeking fame and fortune. I've yet to find it though." he said

"I wish I'd had a home like you." Kiln said

"No, my family treated me badly. I only have destruction skills from an old worn out battlemage that came into town now and again for a visit." he told him

"It is late, best get your rest Jinx." Kiln said still staring into the water

"You're probably right, I'll see you in the morning though." he said walking towards the tradehouse

Kiln stood there thinking about his past and his future, not knowing what would become of him, he could only hope that his adventuring days would be more successful than Tiren's.

Interesting dream-sequence. Rotten Camonna Tong pretending to be Redorans... well, at least the House guards aren't corrupt.

You continue to weave an exciting and enjoyable story. Lots of action, but also plenty of descriptions of Kiln's thoughts and fears.

You update fast, great. I like the way you put in your own events or make the standard quests different from the game (like Lenas/Ienas). I admit I was a bit confused with the two dream sequences, but maybe they will become clearer to me later. The one about the mother's food was funny. smile.gif
