First of all, thank you all for your help in combatting the spam bots that have been hounding us mercilessly as of late.
My inbox is filled to the brim with your reports. This has helped us greatly in effectively removing spam posts, some of which were very icky.

However, these measures are no longer cutting it, and so I actually had to use my head for something other than a paper weight.

I've altered the rules on what freshly signed up users can do.

The idea is that all new users will have their posts validated by moderators,
so the spam may be posted but you will no longer see it.

If you notice anything strange, like not being able to post for some reason, please let us know ASAP.

Thank you for your attention, carry on.

I thought that was you "Mister Test Testerman!" Yes, I think some of them let their accounts sit dormant a while and then launch an attack, but these recently are hitting the forums the same day they join. And they are just re-joining immediately when blocked.

Good luck, i hope your trick helps!

Stargelman had been brainstorming on how to deal with this for several days now. Rest assured, we've been talking about it for several days and this seems like the most effective way to deal with it.

Reaper: That was the first thing I thought of.

We appreciate you guys' efforts! This one thinks this may have dealt a decisive blow to the Spampire! salute.gif

So, as a supporter of the Rebel Alliance, should I be worried? biggrin.gif

Yes, my report gun has gotten quite warm during the last couple of weeks. I hope this will be enough to combat our unwelcome guests smile.gif

Well they'll be here bugging the mods/admins but you guys will never have to deal with them anymore.

Will they still come in the email notices? I was wondering, because Starge's posts on the "Introduce Yourself" thread did show up in my email notices when he was testing it. (I figured it was him at least, due to the funny post)

I was wondering why suspicious sounding new members (like the one that joined today) can't be blocked from any posting whatsoever until they prove they are not bots in some way. (or just plain reject their application to join Chorrol). If they can't post at all, maybe they will find an easier target on someone else's site?

By the way, there have been some very heavy bot attacks on ESO this past week as well, so we are not the only ones being bombarded right now.

mALX

I was wondering if = while this influx of bot attacks is so heavy, maybe you could block new members from joining for say 30 days - unless by invite. Then say if one of us knew someone at the Bethesda forums we wanted to invite, we could write a PM to one of our Mods here to ask for an invite to be given.

That would effectively block this high volume of them joining and attacking, and also bring the old ones hidden in our members lists out into the open to be dealt with.
