To make your kitty litter last longer, put a box of baking soda in the bottom of the pan before you fill it with litter.

Also, don't clean it out by dumping the entire thing. Scoop out the kitty nuggets into a ziplock bag and throw that out. Don't just toss it in your kitchen garbage can and let it sit there though. Even through the sealed plastic bag, it will smell. You have to toss it outside right away.

Download f.lux, it changes your monitor's light at night so your brain conceives it as indoor light when it would usually conceive it as sunlight keeping you up.

Just make sure your kitty approves of the addition, first.

Baking soda fizzes when urine hits it, and some cats hate that.

I can't recommend using litter pan liners enough - when you do have to change the entire box it helps to have it already bagged up and ready to go. I also throw my bedroom and bath trash into this bag when I take up the cat litter - saves on garbage bags!

Cat food tends to be rather high in fat, and fats turn rancid when exposed to air. So to keep my dry cat food fresh longer, I measure out a week's worth of dry food (and yes, I know exactly how much I feed my kitties - it's how I keep them from gaining too much weight) and put it into a separate Ziploc bag, and seal the rest up in an airtight container. I feed the cats out of the Ziploc bag so the rest of the food isn't constantly being opened and closed. The less the cat food is exposed to air, the slower it is to turn rancid.
