Yeah but to me thatīs not excluding the possibilities of choosing multiple answers. I just thought it was there to cover genres you didnīt put in the poll tongue.gif

I went with Rock/Metal/Punk. Though I like other kinds too. I grew up in the 70's and our house was filled with a mix of Mowtown: The Temptations, Four Tops, Smokey Robinson, etc..., and what is now called Classic Rock: Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles, Peter Frampton, Bob Seger, and I guess Classic Soft Rock, like the Captain and Tennile, Beach Boys, Carly Simon, and the like.

So I have always liked rock. I like Punk too, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Joan Jett. The 80s New Wavish stuff like Blondie, Talking Heads, The Cure, The B52s, Thomas Dolby (She Blinded Me With Science!), and so on. Of course I loved the Hair Bands, and good old fashioned rockers like Van Halen and AC DC. Plus Alternative like R.E.M., Our Lady Peace, Jimmy Eat World, Foo Fighters, and so on. I like Metal if you mean bands like Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Judas Priest and Metallica, but the really hardcore Death Metal stuff does not do anything for me. Being a chick, I am a sucker for ballads of course, and naturally Sarah McLachlan is very high on my list of favorites (I don't think you can be a lesbian and not like Sarah M!)

I like other kinds of music too. I like movie scores, what I consider to be Modern Classical, since they tend to have full orchestras. I loved the soundtracks to the LOTR films, 13th Warrior, Gladiator, and so on. I love E.S. Posthumus, which is sort of movie like music (it is hard to describe).

Then there is what I suppose might be called New Age music like Alkaemy, Dead Can Dance, or Paul Scwhartz, and Kamelot, Lorenna McKennit, which I simply adore.

I am not much for Country or Rap, but there are a few of each I like. I like Faith Hill and Shania Twain. Being from the D, naturally I like Kid Rock (though he's more of a Redneck Rock Rap), and a little bit of Eminem.

Techno. Nothing beats Daft Punk.

Couldn't agree more!

I put other. I like songs from many styles of music, ranging from techno to punk, I never have one genre that I like more than others though. For me it depends on the song cool.gif

Their new album was pretty disappointing in my opinion.

I voted soundtracks because that's what I listen to the most, though I am a pretty big fan of electronica as well.

Well that escalated quickly
Grits
Most of my favorites are labeled Indie Rock or Alternative, whatever that’s supposed to mean these days. I guess they both fit under the first category.
Acadian
Voted other as my taste quite runs a gamut. I like some rock, country, what I guess some call new age, and bits and pieces of lots of stuff. I suppose my real weakness though is most anything that sounds like it could be more than a thousand years old (in ambiance, not necessarily technologically).
ImperialSnob
I like them all but I'm gonna go with Rap,because I knew no one else would vote for it.
ghastley
Voted other for the same reasons as Acadian.

While I was back in the UK over the holidays, I went to the last concert of Steeleye Span's tour in Salisbury, and Terry Pratchett joined them on-stage. Their style is folk/rock which wasn't one of the options, but I don't see trad jazz, or renaissance crumhorn quartets either, so other is the best match.

I like a variety of music, from old school eighties (sorry y'all) to recent stuff. It really depends on what it is. I frequently listen to Queen and Lindsay Sterling un the same week, and All That Remains and John Tesh in the next. Then Black Label Society and Macklemore. There's a pattern there somewhere but I haven't pinpointed it. It makes me feel.
Callidus Thorn
I don't tend to like types of music, so much as songs or singers and such. As a result my mp3 player is a mess.

Seriously, I've got Jimi Hendrix, Taylor Swift, Paramore, Jay-Z, Aerosmith, Bluetones, a couple of Indie compilations, a few soundtracks, and more besides. According to the genre list I've got everything from alternative country to trip hop on there, and I don't even know what half of them are.

I realy need to sort that out, I don't even listen to hip hop or rap anymore
Colonel Mustard
I picked 'other' as my music tastes are all over the damn place. Though I guess I lean towards more experimental music, which kind of makes sense because I'm a hella pretentious guy.

Depends what you look at. Most mainstream stuff isn't much good, but there is a lot of incredibly good stuff out there if you look beyond the Top 40.
mirocu
Yeah, of course that was only my opinion wink.gif

And I do believe you. Hard to find all the gems, though. I mostly stick to all the old ones I already know that I like laugh.gif

Elitist.

I stand by my statement. Most mainstream music donīt have well-written lyrics or anything above stock tunes. There are exceptions of course, but not many.

Theyīre quite good, but we rarely have them over here and if we do they always cut their song halfway through dry.gif

Don't worry, you have black metal bands that just love to do good things for the community like give the homeless some heat in the winter....albeit they do so by burning churches but there intentions were good.

Whenever I am playing Skyrim and go by the city of Morthal, I cannot help but think "Morthal Kombat!!!!"
ThatSkyrimGuy
Well, I chose other for two reasons...

1) Rock was lumped in with Metal and Punk. Some metal is ok (Metallica and older Judas Priest), but you can keep the death metal and skateboard speed metal. The closest I get to punk is some of The Ramones' stuff. For Rock, I prefer Classic Rock, because I'm an old fart. tongue.gif

2) Jazz wasn't even on the list! mad.gif

You mean that counts as music? biggrin.gif
ghastley
If John Cage's "Four minutes, thirty-three seconds" counts as music....
stargelman
[x] all of the above.

It really depends on my mood. One time it's blues, the other punk, then heavy heavy metal, then classic, then acid jazz, then EBM, then 80s pop, then Euro dance, then Dead Can Dance (a category of it's own!), followed by country and then chip tunes from someone's old Amiga.

I'm still picky about what I listen to though, it's just that I listen to a very broad range of music.
