we all know WHAT each others favourite is, but not WHY.

sorry if this has been done, but it must be long dead.

i chose ffXIII because of its epic battles, sweet music, perfect graphics and awesome storyline!

Morrowind.

When I was introduced to it I was going through a hellish time in real life. So, I would come home from school and play. It was so immersive that I would forget all about everything. I would spend every free moment with that game. Even in school, I would spend time drawing my character or making to-do lists... It got me so hooked that I actually began seeing cliff racers in the sky. No other game got me hooked that way. And none have done it since.

Thief I and II...the best games ever made...like Jacki Dice, I played the game when I was going through some hard times in my life, and Garrett (main character)'s dark, sad and yet uber cool personality resonated with me then...if he could make it through his hellish life, I could survive mine. wink.gif The gameplay, the atmosphere, the characters...everything about those games were perfect.

Dang it, just thinking about it, now I'm going to have to try to get my old copy of Thief running on Vista...which is NOT easy to do. ;P

I know what you mean about Thief, though I only got into them recently. I'm not sure if I have a favourite, though I have a lot of nostalgia from games. Me and my friends were all very nerdy and so a lot of multiplayer games hold places in my heart. But one which I especially love is Jedi Knight Academy, simply because no other game have I ever found just so easy to pick back up and lose myself for a few hours in.
King Coin
Oblivion. I've been playing it on and off since 2006 and I find something new every time.

Non-TES I would have to say Mechwarrior 3. Who doesn't like giant robots that shoot at each other? Mech 3 did it the best because it had a realistic feel that Mech 4 never got.

The campaign was also excellent. Its supposed to be a military operation gone wrong and it nailed that. A lot of the intel you receive in the mission briefings are out dated or just plain wrong. One of the last few missions your intel officer tells you that the enemy only has the capability to operate light mechs in this particular area (weigh only 20-40 tons). I prepared my weapon load-out accordingly only to run into a 90 ton assault mech almost immediately.

EDIT: added video link to the campaign intro

My favorite game ever is still Oblivion. Just the sheer replayablity has kept it in the #1 spot for me. Close on it's heels are Morrowind and Fallout 3. There are a few non-RPG games I like also. Civilization II, SimCity 4, and Call of Duty would be tops in their genres for me. And on the Wii...Tiger Woods 2010 because I am a golfer. Well, I try to be a golfer...

Depends largely on the genre for me.

Favorite shooter? Perfect Dark. It is just a flat-out great game. Insane weapons with even more unbelievable secondary functions, wacky plot, and it's just so much fun to screw around in there.

Also, the game has recently been re-released on XBLA on the 360, and it was promptly purchased by myself. This game will always have special place in my heart. smile.gif
Linara
Hrm. It depends on the genre, but I'd have to say that my favorite recent game is Left For Dead 2. Killing zombies can be a lot of fun.
grif11
if you find killing zombies fun, then you would love dead rising 2. some of the weapons you get are hilarious!

Morrowind.

When I was introduced to it I was going through a hellish time in real life. So, I would come home from school and play. It was so immersive that I would forget all about everything. Exactly the same here, I used Morrowind like a drug, it was the ultimate escape from reality for me and while I was running around in the ash storms and getting lost due to bad directions from NPCs I got completely engulfed in another world. It was the only game I've ever played to that extent in my entire life and most likely will be the first and last game to do so.

I'm with TK and Linara, I can't just site one game.

Shooter: Half-Life 2, Deus Ex, and strangely enough, Star Wars: Republic Commando

RPG: Morrowind, KOTORs I & II, Fallout 3, and The Mass Effects

Guilty Pleasure (still): Def Jam: Fight for NY

Hmmm, I love Oblivion, because you can do pretty much anything, and I am addicted to the Dark Brotherhood, because... Erm, because I like killing the NPC's.

and Fate, because of the cool weapons and monster's and Dungeons, and the music

and Fable 1 is pretty good when I used to play it, because of the Demon Doors and stuff

and then Sims ... 2? I forget which one. Anyway, yeah, I like that one because I like building the houses, which is pretty much the only bit I like

And last, like Destri said, Starwars, Rebublic Commando because of the Graphics and guns. Haven't played most of them for a few years though because we never owned any of them besides Fate and Oblivion, we just played them at our friends house.

By the way, while Oblivion is on the XBOX 360, Fate is on PC's only; I downloaded it on my mom's computer, so.

I mostly like RPG's.

But yeah. Oblivion rules!
