Chapter Six: Of Saints and Dirty Politics.

I gulped as I watched the crowd in front of me. The lower part of the Temple and the two bridges leading over to St.Delyn and St.Olms cantons as well as the two cantons themselves were filled to the brim with people. My past as an assassin as well as my Telvanni nature meant that I’d never been a real ‘people’ person and large crowds got my paranoia buzzing…still with two living Gods at your side it was difficult to feel frightened.

As I scanned the crowd I realized that hundreds if not thousands had shown up and with good reason. Not only was this the first time in over two centuries that a member of the ALMSIVI was out in public but it was to announce a new Saint as well, and I felt a smile tug at my lips as I realized that it was I who was about to be Sainted, shaking my thoughts from my mind I looked over to where Tholer unveiled a scroll and started reading.

“Gathered men and mer, we are congressed here today to witness the birth of a Saint, Telina Delvanni Archchanon and Matriarch of the Temple, Master Inquisitor of the Ordo Daemonicum, Arch Magister of Great House Telvanni and Head of the Delvanni Glass and Ebony Mining Corporation has done much for our country and its people”. Here he paused in order to let the crowd finish their screaming while I snorted at the fact that he mentioned my Temple ranks first…good persons or not the Temple and its members always saw themselves as more important than the rest.

“Honoured Matriarch, kneel before the members of the Holy Tribunal present”, he said.

With shaking knees I turned towards the awe inspiring figures of Vehk and Seth and fell to my knees bowing my head in submission to the only two presons in the world I would ever dare to call my masters. While my Telvanni nature would kick and scream at me kneeling and offering my neck to anyone else, the presence of the two Gods silenced any quarrel it might have.

I sucked in a breath as the two Gods stepped up to me and I nearly shivered when Vivec spoke, his voice reaching the ears of anyone assemble with no problem.

“Telina Delvanni, in the time you have been here you have done much good for the people, Do you swear a solemn oath to continue to serve the people, to protect them in their hour of need, to stand for freedom, hope and justice and to smite those who would enslave us with your might”?

Doing my best to keep my voice stable I let it ring out to the crowd. On my soul I do swear to uphold this oath, I shall serve Morrowind to the day of my death”.

In tandem Sotha Sil and Vivec placed their hands on my head. “ThenWe give you our blessings, from now on you are more than a mer you are a Saint, rise Saint Delvanni and greet your people”.

I gasped out loud as a tiny portion of the power of the two gods was imparted into my body and I stared in shock at my now subtly glowing hands, and with baited breath I rose and watched the assembled crowd give in to cries of adulation, their voices rose as a crescendo until all was silent, apparently they expected me to make a speech.

Tugging nervously at my collar I cleared my throat. “Beloved people, I stand before you, not as a Saint, not a Head of House or any other office but as one of you, a common man, mer or other race. For too long has our nation been stagnant, while our beloved Tribunal has done much there is only so much they can do at once. The blight from Red Mountain is ever growing, more and more of our culture is disappearing every day as the Empire tightens their grip on our beloved nation…Once Morrowind stood for freedom, hope and justice and I shall endeavor to make it so again”.

I held up a hand to silence the crowd and spoke again, now with a raised voice. “I SWEAR TO YOU NOW BEFORE THE TRIBUNAL ITSELF THAT I SHALL NOT REST UNTIL THE BLIGHT IS ENDED. I SHALL NOT REST UNTIL OUR FREEDOM HAS ONCE MORE BEEN RETURNED IN THE NAME OF THE ALMSIVI I SWEAR THIS OATH”.

The crowd went wild and feeling strangely secure I walked down the steps and greeted them allowing them to touch me reverently. A young Dunmer with a child in her arms stopped before me. “Please M’Lady, my child is not well, will you give her your blessing?”

Taking the small boy out of his mother’s hands I allowed my senses to wash over him, immediately discovering the cause of his sickness. The unfortunate child had contracted Ash Cancer and would die soon if help was not administered. With a gentle touch I touched the boy’s forehead and scoured away any trace of the disease with my magic, laying a gentle kiss on the boy’s forehead I returned him to his mother, while trying to ignore her repeated thanks.

Several hours later I was once more alone in the presence of Vivec and Sotha Sil. “My Lords, what happened to me? I have felt…strange ever since your blessing on the square” I queried them. Perhaps my maternal instincts had appeared briefly on their own but I doubted it, and the worst part was that I didn’t resent it as much as I thought I would. Oh do not mistake me, me mind rebelled furiously at my behavior in the square but I felt that I had acted right nonetheless.

Vivec and Sotha Sil stared at me before Vivec spoke. “When we blessed you we imparted a small piece of our identity in you. You are touched by our divine presence, you carry part of it within you. You are more, much more than any mortal, and with it comes certain instincts…you’ll find that you have instinctive reflexes and if focused enough you can use it to predetermine nearly any situation and action…you have taken your first step towards Godhood, now beloved child you must finished what you have begun. Help the Spymaster in his investigation, and meet us again when you have become Hortator and Nerevarine”.

Bowing my head at them I turned and walked out of the door, I had a Spymaster to help and I would not fail.

Well that is the start of Chapter six. I must apologize for the huge amount of dialog in this installment but I felt that it was necessary, but never fear with Telina's talent for finding trouble we'll see action soon enough.
