Here, I have attempted to draw....
Serene!

Happy birthday to your son, Minque, and belated birthday to you! Thank you for your words of kindness and encouragement. You're awesome, Minque! :goodjob:
Now, I hope I have drawn Serene as you have envisioned her to be, a kind and strong woman, so I hope you like it. :embarrassed2:
(Please excuse the lightness on the hair and other parts. For some reason, my scanner made the picture look much, much lighter, despite my efforts to darken the lines. )
wow like lit! Where did you get that drawing style from?
It's an anime art style. It's what I usually draw.

Sometimes, I look at game magazines or anime magazines to get some ideas for different eyes/hairstyles/poses/etc. However, for Serene, I used the reference picture in the Introduction thread, as well as my usual anime-style to draw as close to the reference piccy as I can.
The hardest thing to do is to make an older person with my kind of cutesy-anime-artstyle.
EDIT: Thank you, Minque!

You're sweet, too!

If I drew her, she would still look a bit younger than she is in the piccy.

I'm bad at drawing wrinkles. My older characters just look like 26 or older, but tired looking (bags under their eyes).
Konji

It's not so much wrinkles as face drooping. If you look at old people you can't really see their jawline anymore.

I'd suggest several books by the author Burne Hogarth: "Drawing the human head", "Dynamic Anatomy", "Dynamic Figure Drawing", "Drawing Dynamic Hands" and "Dynamic Light and Shade". Those are really helpful because you get to know a lot about anatomy and hints on how to draw people.

That's what I usually look up when I want to know what a certain part of the body looks (or in this case:what the difference between the face of an older and a younger person is)
Heh. Nice.
And i'll out stick-figure you all!

Great drawing MerGirl! I wish I could draw like that. I am running out of inspiration lately on what to make into pictures myself. I hope you don't mind, but I stole your idea to make a pictures of Serene. I based it on the screenshot of her in another thread.
I hope you like it Minque... and if you want me to make any changes just ask.. I can make pretty much any kind of change to it. (ie more muscular.. different colors or clothes or pretty much anything.

Nothing wrong with that, it's natural.
A breeze or something must ahve just passed by or something.
But anyways it's not lik she has much in terms of being able to cover them. not like a bra especially a straples existed by the looks of her garments, especially the absence of underwear. in all probabilities this garment wouldn't b seen much outside of a brothel or home...
Also the left arm is disfigured.

Neela, what program do you make your images in? They are very beautiful .. I like the Oriental eyes too.
MerGirl,

I am so very disappointed that I cannot SEE any of your art, and would really like to. I'm wondering if it is because I don't have .gif's enabled in my image programs. Does anyone know? Everyone else seems to see them just fine. I usually use .jpg's because they seem to be accepted at alot of websites.

I am using a program called Poser. Its a really good character 3d program. Its very intuitive and easy to use. While I think I am getting better, I am no where near the level that some people use it to produce fantastic images.
There are a few artists out there using it that just amaze me. If you go to
Renderosity.com and check out their Poser gallery. You will need to register to view it, but its free to do so. They have literally thousand upon thousands of pictures made with Poser. They range in quality from very poor to exceptional!!!!! I fear I probably am only in the mediocre category actually as I don't possess any talent to add post-work to the pictures, which is using art programs to add/enhance the render.
Check out picture by Prog, Ravnheart, and ToxicAngel who are among the most talented artists I have ever seen. Be warned though, however, ALOT of Poser pictures contain nudity and/or graphic violence. So if you are offended at that type of content these galleries would not be for you.
After viewing them you probably will notice the glaring flaws in my own pics hehe.

Jesus christ that stuff is sick. They're great things - but I didn't expect that by searching for Prog I would get JUST naked women. I even chose the ones which looked like they had no connection (such as an evil monster) but no he's somehow managed to stuff a naked woman in. It seems very uncalled for - could anyone tell me what to search to get the more artistic but great pieces of poser without the unneeded nudity?
I could manage some, but it's ridiculous what I've seen.

Sorry Konradude, I tried to warn you. I do like their pictures for their ability to use the software and make great pictures, though I too would like to see some of the nudity toned down.
Unfortunately, many of the things that drives the artists there to keep creating pictures is to get comments and viewings. Sad to say that having nudity in your picture disclaimer tends to get you alot of both.
There are alot of great pieces there that don't get nearly the recognition they deserve simply because they are without nudity.

Konradude,
Several things you can do at the Poser site to avoid nudity. First off, when you applied for membership, you had a choice of checking a box that would omit nudity from your viewing. Perhaps you can go back in the settings and make that adjustment now.
The other thing you can do, is be careful of what categories you choose to view. I chose as a first try the classification "Glamour" and of the 18 images on the first page, only one was a not very intimidating pic of a girl's bare chest clad only in a necklace.
I think you can choose categories that won't have so much of the offensive (to you) material. I have been to and around art schools and so am used to the nude aspect of the genre. I find a badly executed painting more offensive than a good nude.
Konji
May 6 2006, 10:58 PM
Ok, I'll try that.
I'm not dismissing nude art - i find if someone decides ONLY to do nude art and even when it does give a warning sometimes the thumbnails show the nude part (Which is incredibly idiotic

) it is slightly too much.
Thanks for the help.
Another thing that bothers me is that if they are nude they only ever seem to be nude from teh waist up. So the artists are not talented enough to create the lower half (pretty simple modelling if you have any skill) and are just bunging it in their for the sake of it.
Ibis
May 7 2006, 03:32 AM
Hmmm, yes ... I agree with you there about the topless aspect. I remember when the Better Bodies mod for Morrowind came out and I thought they did a good overall generic job on the males, but there were many comments and disagreements, etc.
The lower regions are a much more sensitive subject to most people.
As an aside to this subject, I've seen the article on the main page where the classification of Oblivion changed from Teen to Adult due to some guy using the bare chest option for females in Oblivion and making a mod from it. I really don't see what all the ruckus is about after Better Bodies mods in Morrowind. I thought everyone was used to the idea.
Konji
May 7 2006, 08:18 AM
But better bodies for Morrowind was created solely by modders. Meshes, textures.
But with Oblivion the modders simply changed a couple of words - Bethesda had provided the nudity meshes and textures in the actual game.
It is different and that is what the ESRB has picked up on
They weren't used to it, its just that it was entirely third party in morrowind so they couldnt do anything about it. Bethesda said Oblivion had no nudity anywhere so they lied about their product.
Ibis
Jun 4 2006, 12:56 AM
Hmmm, yeh I guess they did stretch the truth a bit there.
I think they included the possiblility of topless females in response to the huge popularity of BetterBodies mod for Morrowind. They used to be quite responsive when it came to modders. The la femme armor mod comes immediately to mind .. it was offered after some talented female modelers had already make female bosom meshes for some armors and shirts in MW. There are other examples of the devs following the lead of modders but I just got up and can't think of any atm.
