what sort of metal do you listen to or heard any crazy metal genres, yea post it all here.

(I donīt know if you admins want me to put a spoiler alert or something on this?)
Alexander
No need, it's not like someone can spoil a band for someone else wink.gif

I don't listen to Metal that much I guess, but probably my favorite band is Metallica, and I guess one could consider that Metal right?

Another favorite genre of mine is Goth Rock, as in Evanescence, Within Temptation, Nightwish and the likes. I'm not sure if you might consider that a form of Metal?

I do usually like other metal tracks when a friend or co worker puts them on, but I personally tended to play things like punk, and hardrock and the likes lately, you know the softer stuff smile.gif
Olen
I used to listen to a lot of metal but I've moved more towards rock and atmospheric. It all depends on where you draw the line though.

Having said that my favourite band is In Flames who are definatly metal.

At the moment I'm listening to a lot of 'Doom Metal' which has far more in common with atmospheric than traditional metal, bands like Canaan or Neronoia are my favourite in that line.
Ramirez
I'm a fan of a few different metal bands.

One of my favourites since I discovered them is A Dark Halo. Pretty much unheard of, but I really enjoy their music. Every time I meantion the name to someone, the reply is "who?"

You can listen to some of their songs on their Myspace page http://www.myspace.com/adarkhalo . Not sure if it will appeal to anyone else though.
Badda-Tish
I have started listening to a great pirate metal band called Alestorm.
Captain Morgan's Revenge

Over The Seas
Olen
Alestorm are from my neck of the woods. If you ever get the chance to see them live leap at it, they were supporting Turisas over here and were really brilliant. Not sure I'd buy their album but I'd certainly go to their next gig.
Ibis
Oh I love Alestorm! Move over Jimmy Buffet. What more could a parrot-head who teethed on Sabbath ask for? And I continue to watch Ozzy no matter what he's up to next.
The Metal Mallet
I do likes me my metal. I have even developed an interest in vinyl and got a vinyl player for Christmas so that I could finally buy metal music that is only available on vinyl. I'm definitely enjoying the new experience! A lot of the bands I listen to like to release exclusive EPs on vinyl. The next vinyl I intend to own is the latest EP by Wolves In The Throne Room, I think it's called "Malevolent Grain".

I like a lot of different kinds of metal bands that run the gamut from traditional bands like Judas Priest, Heaven and Hell (basically Black Sabbath with Dio singing), Dio, and Pharaoh, to black metal bands like Wolves In The Throne Room, Immortal, Cobalt, and Celtic Frost.

I would say my favourite subgenres of metal would be melodic death metal (In Flames, Insomnium, Dark Tranquility), post metal (Isis, Neurosis, Cult of Luna), and doom metal (Solitude Aeturnus, Candlemass, Pale Divine, The Obsessed).

So yea, I'm definitely down for some metal discussions (if I stick around).

you should check out Machetazo, they have alot of vinyl stuff.
The Metal Mallet
I shall certainly check that out. Thanks for the recommendation.

I bought the new Lamb of God album Wrath recently. I love it, but at the same time, there aren't too many 'memorable' songs. Their last few albums have had really catchy riffs and cool hooks, but this one is more like their earlier stuff.

Also looking forward to new Mastodon album next week. (Thank you MM for showing me this band) Can't beat a concept album about czarist Russia.
Bolzmania
I listen to Metallica. I suppose that is thrash metal?

O wouldn't presume to know much, if anything, about the seemingly endless variations of Metal there are today, but I've alsways simply called it heavy metal. smile.gif

I remember reading an article where one of the band members described the concept of the album and all I could think about was how much weed they must've smoked to come up with such an odd concept. I nearly get lost trying to comprehend it. Still looking forward to hearing it, from what I understand the clean vocals have improved since the last album.

As for my recent listening, I've basically been stuck listening to the same 8 albums since that's all I brought home with me to my parents' place. The rest of my collection is back in Toronto and I'm starting to miss the variety I had. At least I'm giving the newer Burst CD the amount of listens it deserves. Such a good album...
Badda-Tish
Lamb of God has got a bit too much mainstream for my taste. Iīm goin to buy Raubtier's new (and first) album Det finns bara krig.
The Metal Mallet
Busting out a classic right now: Defenders Of The Faith by Judas Priest. Epic album I must say with great songs like "The Sentinel", "Rock Hard, Ride Free", and "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll". Rockin' out as we speak!
Colonel Mustard
My favourite metal band is Rage Against the Machine (at least I think they're metal-iTunes says it is), even if they do seem to hate everything.
Badda-Tish
Meh, Rage against the machine is just a bunch of hippies
Colonel Mustard
I take it you haven't met many hippies. tongue.gif
Badda-Tish
I think I recognize a hippie when I see one.
Tellie
Been listening to Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath for most of my life, and have in recent years turned my ears to other great metal bands like Judas Priest, Saxon, Guns'n'Roses and Nightwish.

Anyway, I like most of the metal music that comes from the bands who started in the 70' and 80', but there are a few good bands that have appeared in recent years (Hammerfall, Nightwish and Within Temptation).
Illydoor
I like Avenged Sevenfold, I did go through an Iron Maiden phase (haven't we all?), but we all gotta' love a bit of Slipknot devilsmile.gif.
Badda-Tish
I used to listen to Slipknot, but that was a long time ago.
Have you guys seen the music video on Metallica's song All nightmare long?

All Nightmare Long
The Metal Mallet
How can you just go through an Iron Maiden phase? Usually once you like Maiden, you like Maiden forever.

I know I couldn't go through a Judas Priest phase, all I have to do is get "Point Of Entry" and I'll have all their good albums. Well, that's disregarding "Unleashed In The East" since that's a live album which supposedly has superior versions of some of the studio songs but I'm still probably not going to bother with that album...
Illydoor
Best maiden song Wickerman or Hallowed Be Thy Name.

I don't know really, all of a sudden I just stopped liking IM and went more to Nu-Metal and heavy rock.
The Metal Mallet
I have to admit that is really, really weird.

fact.

Well, besides having been riding the Mastodon train ever since Crack the Skye came out, I've been listening to a lot of Death, mostly from their album The Sound of Perserverance. I love the album because it's very death metal, but strangely jazzy at times.
The Metal Mallet
Death is freakin' awesome! Shame that Chuck got that brain tumor and died.

I only have listened to their Symbolic album but I definitely know I need to check out their other stuff. Probably will go with the album you mentioned next since they got a cover of Judas Priest's "Painkiller" on it.

Seriously, though, I'm not that big a metal fan. I tend to prefer the "proto-metal" of the 70s. One indication: I like Dio better when he was in Rainbow with Ritchie Blackmore than I do his Black Sabbath stuff.
The Metal Mallet
I like Dio's Black Sabbath stuff more than Ozzy's Black Sabbath stuff to be honest. Still haven't listened to the new album though.
LINK1416
I listen to that crazy Nordic Metal sometimes. It weirds out the people I drive next to in my Mini Cooper.
