Come on... how many of you saw the new batman movie? I saw the midnight showing of it. I arrive at the movies two hours before midnight and there was already a line. Hell I still have the ticket and I will treasure it always. All I can say is that it is definetley one of the best films I've seen... although I did have several problems with it.

I saw it the day it came out. I showed up literally 5 seconds before the movie started, and still got a great seat in the middle, I was very happy. As for the movie, I was blown away. I mean everything was great, the action, the dark humor. I mean Batman Begins was good too, but now I see they were setting this one up. I mean the character development was great, you really got to see why the Joker was causing all the chaos, and how Two-Face develops. I really do hope he's in the thrid one. Overall, fantastic movie, best I've seen in a while.

That movie was great. I love how the joker had a different explanation for his scars every time. I also liked some of the statements it made about humanity. (I don't want to spoil anything for anyone so I'll keep my example vague) Like when the convict was the one to throw away the detonator when nobody else would.

I assume you mean the joker? Well, unfortunately, it wouldn't be the same without Heath Ledger playing him, I don't think.

<SPOILERS>
Actually, I was talking about Two-Face. His fall at the end was ambiguous enough to assume that he could return for a third film, and Eckhart has said he would definitely play Two-Face again. Now, if Heath Ledger hadn't died, I would want to see him in the third, but without him, I'd rather they leave him out, instead of having another actor take his place.

In the script Two Face breaks his neck with the fall so he probaly wont be coming back. What bothered me was two face's burnt side of his face. It was too graphical? It reminded me of the terminator. I wonder if they did bring back the Joker for a third who would play him? Probaly some one who physicly looks like Ledger.

The Dark Knight is simply a cinematic masterpiece. Heath Ledger played the Joker, pure and simple, he ACED it.

That pencil thing was ridiculous (in the good way). But the Gotham central detonator thing was also pretty funny (I think it was vague enough not to be a total spoiler).

My first urge wasn't exactly to laugh, more like be disturbed at how sociopathic this guy is. Right when that scene took place, I realized that the Joker meant business, in every possible way.
The scene with the billiard try-outs was also cool.
But yeah, I think it would be insulting both to Heath Ledger's memory and to the way he played the Joker if someone else was assigned to play the Joker in the third Batman film. I would feel slighted, at least.

I saw it a couple of days ago. It was good but they failed to catch the atmosphere IMO, it was dark but it didn't have the same feel as the best of dark films and gothem just didn't seem that bad.
The joker turned what would have been a good film into a great one though.

I just now watched it. I couldn't breath for fifteen seconds in the middle. He's just losing his temper cause the joker isn't a linguist. I am though, I can understand him and Stallone perfectly well.

I went to a midnight screening the night it came out. The theater was absolutely PACKED. The movie was showing in nine theaters - SEVEN of those showings were sold out by the time I ordered my tickets, and the one I ended up going to was about 80-90% full. So I knew the fanboys were going to be out in force (the blue Mustang with the "JEDI" vanity plate that I saw in the parking lot was my first clue). But honest to God, entering the lobby was like walking into a goddamn comic book convention. It seemed like half the people there were wearing costumes. I almost felt like a jackass for not wearing clown makeup...almost.
Still, I felt like a bit of a fanboy myself. I'd been waiting to see this movie for over a year. The rational part of me kept saying "Now, now - curb your enthusiasm just a LITTLE bit, BBQ. You won't be disappointed and you'll enjoy it more if you do." But it was to no avail - deep down, I knew that this was going to be the greatest thing to happen to movies since they added sound. I sat down in the theater a good 45 minutes before midnight, fully ready for this movie to make me its beeyatch.
And boy, did it ever. I think I can safely say without any hint of exaggeration that I want to bear this movie's child. All the buildup, all the hype - it was all justified. Anyone who thinks that the Oscar buzz surrounding Heath Ledger is just shameless hype and exploitation of his tragic death can prepare to eat their words. Because they were NOT FREAKING LYING. Dear God, Heath Ledger was spectacular. He was captivating from the moment he was introduced - but to me, the scene where was the part where he really seemed to "arrive." I never really paid much attention to his career before, but after watching him in this movie, I already miss the hell out of him. I have no idea how they're going to replace him (if that is what they intend to do).
Make no mistake - the Joker as he appears in TDK is the true, definitive version of the character. THIS is who the Joker really is - I just didn't know it until last night. From now on, when people think of the Joker, they will think of Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. All other portrayals of him - whether it be Jack Nicholson in the original Batman, Cesar Romero in the TV series, or Mark Hammill in TAS (which up to this point had been my favorite) - simply pale by comparison. The reason is simple - the others seemed to stay within predictable boundaries (although to be fair, the limits on content in Saturday Morning cartoons came into play in Hammill's case). This Joker doesn't play by any rules - he has no boundaries or qualms whatsoever. That's what makes him so scary.
Of course, there's much more to this movie than just his amazing performance. The ensemble cast turns in great performances all around (seriously, why the hell hasn't Christian Bale even been NOMINATED for an Oscar yet?), and Christopher Nolan's direction is superb. And the storyline is superbly dramatic, compelling, and intense, managing to be both uplifting and profoundly tragic at the same time. I really liked the way the film kept building momentum as the story progressed, getting better and better with every minute. And it has a lot to say as well (but I don't want to spoil anything by revealing any of the themes to you - the movie does it way better than I could). Really, it just makes other superhero movies look downright silly by comparison. Even Batman Begins isn't as good. And I LOVED Batman Begins.
I have but two complaints about my experience. First, there were about elevnty jillion trailers in front of the movie. While I understand why the various studios would want this kind of advertising space (since damn near everybody in the country is going to see this movie), I found it pretty irritating that I had to sit through 20 minutes of trailers (and - ugh - straight-up advertisements). On the plus side, most of them were for movies I look forward to seeing (the new Bond movie, Watchmen, and Terminator 4, which I refuse to refer to by the godawful title they've saddled it with).
Second, the film burned out with about an hour left to go (right when ). Fortunately, they had it up and running in about five minutes, and everyone in the theater got a free pass for a movie of their choice for their troubles.
All in all, it was an awesome experience. If you haven't seen it, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR!? Stop what you're doing and SEE IT NOW!!! See it TWICE!!! See it FIVE TIMES!!!!!!
DISCLAIMER: Despite the orgasmic levels of praise I have lavished upon this movie, I would still recommend you to follow my stupid, boring old brain's advice if at all possible. Try not to get TOO worked up over it. it's just a movie, not the second coming of Jesus Christ...even if it is pretty close.

Hey, I haven't seen it twice. I've seen it four times! That's how much I love this movie. And every time I've managed to drag at least one other unwilling soul with me to pay for this movie at the cinema. Heck, the third time I dragged along three unwilling souls and sacrificed them to the Joker God!

I saw it with my boyfriend, and we had very different reactions. I enjoyed the movie, and thought Ledger's portrayal of The Joker was absolutely brilliant. He, on the other hand, was bored and unimpressed. So far, he's the only person I know that has seen the movie and didn't think it was awesome. But I, like the rest of you, did enjoy it, and was very glad that I went to see it in the theatre.

First of all, like Oblivion, I was looking forward to this movie A LOT. i knew Heath Ledger would kick boat when everyone was saying "he's not funny enough" and I knew the movie would be spectacular.
That being said, I could not be more disappointed. Except for Heath Ledger, it was pretty stupid. I mean, compared to every other movie I've seen in the last like... forever ago, it was good. It's just, usually I just watch movies and turn off my inner critic cause if I didn't I'd hate every movie ever made. For this, I let myself criticize it.
Honestly the scenes were well done, it was smooth and interesting, and then Harvey Dent chose not to shoot the Joker in the face, and I was over it. I mean, the Joker did not make a very convincing argument. it should have taken a lot more to convince him not to shoot the Joker. And then he decided to hamster with Gordon, wtf? Cause Gordon trusted his officers too much?
Yeah the plotline with the Joker was fine, but every single scene with Harvey Dent had me pissed off. Not the actor, just the amateur job at his plotline. I expected much more from the Nolan Brothers. I mean, combine my favorite director with my favorite comic with somebody that spent a month locked inside his apartment preparing for his role as the Joker and... well I expected better.
The fighting also made me mad. batman didn't do any of the cool ninja stuff from last time. He just hit people with his wrists and they fell down.

I can agree with the fighting, it was a cheap one-hit KO kind of affair. But I just feel like defending Harvey a bit. The rant he has in the end sort of explains his actions. Even if he wanted to kill someone, it was all according to "chance" which he believed was the only "fair" thing in the world.
Now how that irrationality holds up with people is up for people to decide. I think one of the themes of the movie was that not everyone has a solid reason to do some things. People can do irresponsible things just because they feel like it. Whatever, I'll stop and just say it was a great movie overall, needed some improvement here and there.

All I know is if Joker gave me a gun an pointed it at my face after killing the woman I love and leaving me a hideous freak, I would have shot, all epic conclusions about life aside.
But it was the structure of his plot that really got me, I personally think the only way to do it was have him get screwed up in the end and then let him undergo a longer, smoother, more realistic psychological break down in batman 3.

I saw it a few days after it was released with my friend and her sister.
Personally I loved it, I thought it was just one of those films that had everything you could want in a movie. That being said, this was not a comicbook superhero movie...this was a supervillian movie with a superhero in a supporting role. Heath Ledger's Joker owned everything in this film and was the one to capture the audiances attention with very little effort.
