(Don't know if this would be in "Oblivion" or "General Discussion") Hello guys! So I'm a bit bored and I wonder what rumors you've heard of a fifth Elder Scroll. Where it will be, any new races etc.

Omg Daedroth, go to the official TES forums in TES General and about every 5th thread is dedicated to some aspect or question concerning TES V.

Main two rumors are that the single player game will be placed in Skyrim and that there will be an Online TES Game. Both are only rumors but people are certainly fanning the fires.

The Devs probably sit back laughing about all this furvor, but if they are smart they are reading and gleaning what the most people really want by reading these wild threads. But as like before Oblivion, we cannot really know anything about it until Beth Soft is ready to tell us. Rumors back then were that TES IV was going to be placed in the Summerset Isles - so you see how accurate rumors are.

Those rumors go back a long time, in fact Bethesda was a very different company at the time those rumors first surfaced, with a whole different team. These rumors weren't made up nonsense, it's just that the company, the team and the plans changed.

I wondered about that Starg. I noticed that they used to be called Bethesda Softworks when making Morrowind and for Oblivion they are called Bethesda Gaming Company. Something like that.

*Studios. Yeah, between then and now they almost went bankrupt and were bought by Zenimax, which as I understand it is sort of like a media holding corporation with big time investors backing it. It went from a mom-and-pa kinda small company to become a part of a large media corporation. Well, Zenimax itself doesn't have that much other stuff, but the companies owning it do, I think.

All of that probably explains why their games have become so much more mainstreamed and commercialized. The first few games, especially Daggerfall, were built on high ideals and dreams and elaborate fantasies with probably too little regard for market feasability and target audiences and such. That's why they almost died. Now that chance is negligable, but of course their new found success doesn't come without a price...

MK would probably offer to beat me up again if he was reading this, but I can only repeat that I think Beth sold its soul to save its body.

Okay.. Myself I want an elder scrolls game online, but it wouldn't work. You know, the guilds! Everybody can't be guildmasters and things like that. Skyrim.. huh, I think Bloodmoon is enough, and Bruma doesn't feel like it belongs to Cyrodiil so I don't want a game in Skyrim and it won't be an online game.

I don't think TES V should be an MMO...what I do think they should add, however, is perhaps 2 player co-op. That would be interesting. I really don't want another fantasy MMO...the thing that makes Elder Scrolls unique is the fact that it's a freakin' huge single-player RPG, with nearly endless things to do.

As for the game being set in Skyrim...that could work. Of course, I wouldn't mind, since my favorite race is Nord biggrin.gif .
Black Hand
Noone will beleive me when I say that I am 70% sure that it WILL in fact be set in Skyrim.

I have seen...things, I have spoken to...people. Unfortunately I am sworn to secrecy on both accounts, as to what and who they are, so for the love of all that is holy dont PM me for anything!!

I am allowed to say this however, Oblivion treated the lore brutally, largely due to the fact that Michael Kirkbride, also known as MK on the main site, was not present for the development. (Notice how Mankar Camoran misnamed all of the Oblivion Sites of the Daedra Princes?) However, Kurt Kuhlmann, is apparently one of his lieutenants in a sense, as has been hired on for the development of ES V, so MK who still does not work in Bethesda technically, but still continues to contribute to the Lore of TES, will have a larger voice in its creation, so we may see a return to a Morrowind-style atmosphere of immersive lore.

Some of this is fact, and some of this is simply conjecture on the part of certain individuals who are in an inner circle of sorts. So dont get your hopes up too much, like with OB, but there might be some ointment on the wound like with SI.

Enjoy, Black Hand.

OMG Starg, MK offered to beat you up once? That is fame .. I'm not even going to ask what you did or said then.

Over the years (or is it decades) under more than one name I have praised and critted Beth for the great suff and the messes they have made. Daggerfall was at the heart of mood compatibility, Morrowind (bought and funded by Zen-Wonderwoman+ Senator) became a real powerhouse of intrigue and made the whole experience more personal. It made up for any losses with strong positives an dadded more.

What I feel about Oblivion can be changed by V. If the change is positive then the financial gains will have made up for the game-losses in Ob, and Ob will have gained value as a bridge to great things. It will become that Ob sacrificed something to make it possible to do better things later.

If V is for Vanilla then there is no excuse, because by now the 'new team' should have been able to assess what was wrong in Ob and be able to adapt for it. If not then a whole culture has died. Not to mention a total failure of gameplay. How can a sneak skill be successful if you cannot hide from your enemies?
Black Hand
My belief is that the outcry against OB was strong enough to make SI. Granted they still work within game mechanics, thats how expansions work.

The decision to start using voiced dialogue was their Achilles heel, it forces linear gameplay, so now good is wholly good, and evil wholly evil. Bland, unexciting, little to no replay value. To 'compensate' they add in a bunch of caves that are marked, no joy of discovery like in MW.

The guilds had no skill and attribute requirements, no challenge to meet. Of all the guilds, ONLY the Dark Brotherhood encouraged using their favored skills, even then, it was in the form of bonuses, which wasn't all that great anyways.

However KoTN and SI added in the lore and alien worlds we wanted. Cyrodiil was supposed to be jungle, we got forest. The Imperial City was supposed to be the epicenter of culture in the empire, we got the coliseum with some apartments built in. There was supposed to be more saints then you could shake a stick at, we got some racist bible thumpers. (Alessia Ottus, a great way to enter the DB)

So hopefully the outcry is strong enough to make Ashley Cheng go [censored] himself, and hopefully get fired. Yes I blame him most of all in ruining OB. Did you see him on the DVD? Basically he's the guy who said that cutting corners was the right thing to do, and was also the guy behind the "Dunbarrow Cove" fiasco. In short he hates TES and all who play it.

most game companies have as their first criteria = love the game. nuff said?

Beth did register Elder Scrolls Online as a domain not too long ago, but I hope to Sithis it isn't going to be MMO... Maybe a little real-life DB quest is in order...

I'd say that either Valenwood or Elsweyr would be in order (I hate mountains. I hate Americo-Nords. I hate Skyrim). It's not too late to change my opinions of Khajiit.

Would it actually be possible to do a territory made up of cities in trees, however?

I think an honest-to-goodness MMO flies in the face of everything the Elder Scrolls games are about, but to be perfectly honest, a battle.net-type thing - online, but not MMO - where you can "invite" individuals to adventure with you, would be really cool.

I'm also carrying a serious torch for the Summerset Isles. The random conversations just focus too much on them for it to be coincidence.

M'AIQ? CARE TO SHED SOME LIGHT?
