I had an idea of making a a charctor based on a samurai, but im a bit stuck on deciding the race and skills,
All i can think of at the moment is blade, block, maybe marksman, and heavy armour but no other ideas on the rest of the major skills and the race of the charctor any ideas would be appriciated

Thanks in advance

Wouldn't horseman count heavily in importance in a samurai life too? I don't know how you'd incorporate horsemanship ... maybe agility, atheleticsm, strength, etc. You could have special spells or abilities like calm creature, command creature ... sort of a sympatico with your horse the way Bosmers have with forest animals.
I think dual wield mod would be important to you also because of katana/dai katana. Are you making special samurai armor? Heavy armor is good I think for them.
I would make a custom Race called Akivari for Samurai's but I would choose the Dunmer pretty much with some minor tweaks ... since they are good at both sword and bow and have fire resistance. (Samurai fight dragons, eh?)
If you are going to have a pet, don't know if Samurai's had pets ... but if you are I'd suggest the Cougar of the Cheydinhal Petshop mod. It is the only one with Sneak and goes Invisible. It follows you like lightning. It is the strongest pet after the bear and eats ratmeat so it is easier to feed than the bear who eats berries.

No problem. I like your idea of a Samurai class.

blade, marksmanship, im thinking light armor, as it looks more
samurai-ish. acrobatics (for the dodge roll:)) illusion?? maybe for charming and calming people and things? athletics (to attack while jumping) and if you have an empty skill slot, put in hand to hand for some fun

Yes excellent idea DungeonHunter - hand-to-hand. I was thinking of suggesting that but then didn't know if I was thinking of Ninjas or not. And the armor, it does look like light armor, even like clothing. But I've gotten the idea that it is very extremely protective like heavy armor.
I wonder if he could modify any of the clothing into armor? Oh right, you can't use the TESCS with X-box.

there is one armor that looks totally samurai-ish! i believe its the armor taht the blades wear in the beginning of teh game, and that segmented plate look just totally works for a samurai! dont know if its heavy or not though...

Orcish armour looked samurai-ish in Morrowind, I haven't really seen it in Oblivion yet (guess I started fighting Marauders once they started wearing Daedric), so I can't comment on how it looks now.
You'd also have to commit suicide everytime you run from a fight. Fleeing from battle is not the samurai way

Flee from a fight? That's an option?? haha I would like to know the Samurai way of stealing an Imperial horse cause everytime I try they catch me and I gotta pay the fines.
Glad to hear that there is at least one armor that works with Samurai styling. Your right, Rodriqes .. I mean Mallet (

) that Orcish armor in MW looked Samurai.
You know who I really liked in Oriental fighting style? Those guys who weren't allowed to have horses or metal weapons and so they were the ones who designed the bo, and the nun-chakos and the sigh {?sp) - that wooden sorta forkish looking weapon that can desword someone. Who were those guys?? Peasants I know, but what were they called??

when okinowa was taken over by japan or china or somesuch powerful asian country, they okinawan farmers put their farm tools to use.
the fork thing your thinking of is called a sai i believe. google it. it was used for rice planting. also weapons called the tonfa, kama, and nunchaku were developed from rice harvesting instruments.
also, the samurai-ish blade armor is heavy armor. jeez now I want to make a samurai:( but i'd have to have like 0 infamy speaking of infamy, i downloaded wizards tower, mehrunes razor, and vile lair today

Oh so cool! Thanks for the good info DungeonHunter .. that was exactly what I was thinking of. Okinawan, I'd have never remembered that.
So nice that you've downloaded 3 mods, let us know what you think of them. I hear wizard's tower is good. I have downloaded a fan-built wizard tower mod from here in the Mod Projects section but have not uploaded it yet to Oblivion. I'm still trying to figure out what kind of zipfile he used so I can open it. Guess I should just go ask him in his release thread.

hehe sorry if i strayed off topic

but yeah wizards tower is definitley worth it
if you have 3 salts of one type you can summon an atronatch of that type! its so cool especially upgraded.
as for the other 2 i havent begun the search for mehrunes razor and i fully upgraded my vile lair, thats pretty good too. especially for vampires.

YW, Sins. You obviously have a very good Class idea here because you've got 12 entries already in a short time. Alot for such a new post. Keep up with making it work ... I think it's very worth while. I hope someday to make an Oriental mod. Perhaps you'll let me use your Samurai Class in it after you've perfected it??

of course ill let you use the class for your mod

whatever improves the game for people, ive got more or less the skills sorted now just thinking what race to use on 360 and what to skill perks to add for a new race how they should look etc

yeah, this is a good idea, i dont think its been done before.

It would make for a very unique mod .. would be cool.
What race? I'm leaning towards Dunmer but I'm not exactly sure why. They are hearty and may have some of the athleticism/agility traits we are looking for. For that matter - so do khajiits. But I'm not sure about an Oriental chajiit ... unless it looked like a Siamese cat with the tan and white fur and blue eyes. That'd be sweet??
DungeonHunter
Aug 18 2006, 07:23 PM
yeah a khajiit would be good for it, but ive never heard of a cat samurai...

I know - seems a little weird doesn't it? On x-box, can he use console commands to say, change Dunmer stats a little bit more like Khajiit ones? I'd do that on PC I think. Or make the new Class or Race = Samurai.
This really is such a good idea!!

That blade armour is segmented armour like romans wear not samerai!! The iron/steel in Japan is of very bad quality which is why they developed such good forging techniques for their swords, but they didn't wear metal armour because it would be of such bad quality, they stereotypically wore cloth or bamboo armour, which would be light, but I don't think there is any samerai looking in oblivion, the Orchish armour in MW looked sameraiish but no more! For Samerai I think you need blade (unfortuanetly you can no longer there is no more tanto and wakizashi), block, atheletics or acrobatics, marksman, alchemy, mysticism of course and armourer. I don't think there is any armour to suit so I think you should go unarmoured with a dai katana, eat the local ingrediants to restore your health, use your Zen Mysticism to devine up coming enemies and use your master armoury skills to keep your katana in perfect condition.
For race I think both high and dark elves have a honourable martial feeling about them, dark elf is better suited with their skills and abilities, Nord is probably the best if you want a human one.

MY Advice:
Race: Breton (They can be made to look Asian in facial Characteristics with a little tweaking)
Class: Samurai - Sworn to serve the emporer, they put forth their very lives for honor.
Favored attributes: Strength and Willpower 0 Willpower because of the sheer amount of martial training the Samurai had to endure.
Major Skills:
Blade-Obviously
Heavy Armor - For the Blades Armor, yes its heavy armor
Block - Lets face it you need it.
Marksman - Yes they had infantry that trained with bows, some were actually even women.
Athletics - For those long hard marches to battle.
Speechcraft - To charm the peasants, also, writing poetry, also known as Death Poems, were a large part of a Samurai's life. This is the closest skill I can think of that reflects this aspect
Mysticsm - The closest skill I can think of that reflects the meditatve aspect of their lives. Maybe the "Detect Life" can be used as their legendary prowess on the field of battle, it is said that one samurai killed twenty men blindfolded, and Im not sure, but I think they may have incorporated blind training.
