has anyone considered making a mod that would add a blacksmith into the game that you could go to, like, for example

you find him in the mountains, he's a hermit. he used to be a kickass blacksmith, but he's not so much anymore...kind of retired. but you ask him if he'd help you...you know since you are saving the world from hell and what not...so he says, ok...but i don't have my forge anymore...it's in a cave down in the depths of the mountain and it's overrun by some sort of creatures (leveled to match you and maybe a little stronger just to make it tough.) so he says, if you can get my access to my forge, i'll make you whatever you want. so you go on a quest to go all the way down to his forge and on the way clear it of any demons/daedra and maybe undead or mythic beasts, whichever. anywho, you get it all clean and then he realizes some of his stuff is missing...of course...so you have to reclaim on a quest, or replace it. perhaps winning a hammer as a boon from some god/demigod for completing a mini-quest..
anyways, when all is said and done you have a blacksmith at your command with a full forge.

he'd be able to make you any kind of weapon type, assuming you're at a level at which it'd appear, and he'd be able to enhance it with various "useless" items...like gold/silver nuggets, rubies, topaz's emeralds, etc. and if you brought him the right ingredients he'd enchant it for you, perhaps better than is naturally possible with an altar of enchantment.

also, (this being a major perk) he'd have options for other models of weapons....like other shapes and sizes of longswords, shortswords, katanas, axes, maces, bows...maybe a longbow with a huge range. of course, you'd still have to pay him...for "materials" but it'd be an awesome way of bringing a whole new array of weapons to the game without just randomly adding them to the list.

also, don't know feasability of this part, but maybe have him suggest that you bring him a design and he'll try to make it, that way anyone that can mod and skin could put a weapon model together and add it to the mod in some way, then once in game there'd be a custom weapon selection and he'd make you the one you designed.

i think it'd be a great way to make a bunch of useless trinkets useful, much like the bruma fur armor in the other thread would do for animal pelts, plus it'd introduce a great deal of content with a nice little story behind it.

an in game user friendly custom sword builder is to much to ask for, i'm assuming...but if it's possible....well..just a thought.

Wow, I like this idea. Especially the adding in of unique weapons and armors that aren't in the game. It is a good way to establish the lore of the new items or of their origin.
And you would have to go and find the materials the blacksmith needed. Pretty cool. And I like the idea of bringing him a blueprint of the weapon to work from. The feasibility of other modders later making their own blueprints and modeling their weapons and then adding it into this mod - would probably be the blacksmith having a desk where he stores the blueprints and a new person could make their blueprint and then merge mods or run the 2 mods together and place their blueprint in the blacksmith's desk.
Likewise, a new weapon could be modeled and the blacksmith could have a cabinet with a very large or infintie weight limit to it and then the new modder could do the same, adding their original weapon into the cabinet. Then save and it all should be there and work.

So your blacksmith mod would be like a template - a blueprint mod itself, if you will. And everytime that someone new added their own weaponry and wanted to share it with others, they'd have to upload their version where they'd added in their blueprints and weapons/armor. And they could title it "BlackSmith _____ (whatever you name the original mod) has created Thunder Armor." Or whatever, and give your source & name as the original mod and then specify what peices they are the author of. After awhile, if people kept adding on ... there'd be a list of authors and weaponry.

That would be a very cool mod indeed. Kind of nevr-ending.
