Full Version: Fireworks

Just imagine, many citizens of the imperial city gathering at the shores of the waterfront distict as dusk falls. Soon to be followed by brilliant lights launching up from across the bay then exploding into many different things like the devine gods or emporers. Then slowly plumitting back to the ground. Yes i am talking about fireworks for oblivion. And don't go saying it would be out of character for oblivion because they had them in lord of The Rings didn't they. I think the most appropriate way to implement these into the game would be to have them as a reward after a quest. The quest? I don't know what it would be, probably most likely helping some scientist like NPC (thought strange by others) to retrieve a special mineral only spoken of in books and thought nonexistant that he believes exists.

sweet, i love lotr, juust saying lotr makes me happy.

Good idea, how could this be done?

Hard work but i have 1 method, same way i made a giant hand come out of the ground.

You have to have a thousand glowing objects be moved with script, its not hard but takes a million years if your doing something like this, its one method

There must be some easier way to do it, if not it still would be worth the time and effort to accomplish this task. Thanks for the comment. smile.gif

i have an idea, check this out.

Maybe you could use the visual effect shaders, i have fooled around with effect shaders a big and by my theory, you couldn have an object in the sky that was extremely big with a transparent texture, and then add the shader effect fisual to it. Im pretty sure the shader effect adjusts to its size! 1 downside that i can think of is that the fireworks would only look good from a certain angle, although it would be a Vary wide angle so that shouldn't be any problem at all realy. Plus you can *easily* make the large sky object always face you with script.

what do you think? i bet this would work, although i bet there would be complications, but thats what moding is about sometimes.. but just having thought this up.. and spent about 5 minutes thinking about it, Im almost positive this would work and not be that hard.

hit me back maxitar, whatchu think?

Thats a really good idea Dirox. Believe me I was scatching my head over this one until you posted that last comment. It sounds possible and sounds easier than the first. Ill try messing around with a few shaders now and see some of the effects. Ill let you know what happens. Oh ya for the tranparent texture, do you think i would have to make my own? Or could I use one from an object in Oblivion say the one used on the see through potion making items? Because I know that some textures when stretched do not look as well or even look downright horrible because they are meant for smaller ones. It wouldn't be hard to make my own texture but why waste time if there's no need to. Let me know what you think. Thanks. bluewizardsmile.gif

your too kind. Im 99% sure that if you make any testure with a gloss/glow layer (_g at the end of the texture name) and you make that layer completely black, the item will be invisible. (mabey someone could second this). So if that works and i think it would(btw to do it just copt the current texture, color it all black, ad _g to the end of the name, and put it in the same folder as the original) all you would have to do is add the effect shader on permanently ( for a test ) cross your fingers and try it out.

Ps. im extremely lazy right now.. seriously.. im tired and its hot here lol. (Canada, where did you think i was? =) ) and ive got a huge project on my hands that im slightly discuraged about right now due to the imense tiredness. Therfore i dont wana make the _g layer right now but perhaps ill be up to it tomorow, but if you can get it done (pretty easy) ill be happy to write the 10 line script for it.

New problem i just thought of, sure the effect shaders would probably work good, and look just fine from a long distance, (enlarged 50X, 50 times further, = same quality im guessing) but the problem is, how would you get it to look like fire works? Im thinking you might need a custom shader effect and i dont know how to go about making them as of now.

hit me back

Sorry it took some time to get back to you Dirox. I've been experimenting a bit more and while seeing if something similar to this mod had allready been made i discovered a mod someone had made for the actual TES Construction Set. It is an exporter/importer tht enables you to import and export models to application such as 3d studio max. I have followed a tutorial on creating fireworks in 3d studio max and have found it quite successful in replicating a real firework. Now all i have to do is see if this exporter really works and then I could import it as an object into the Construction Set. Here is the model I created in 3d studio max animated and everything. If this does work do you think you could write the script as you offered earlier. Thanks. biggrin.gif

I wish you luck, and i most certainly can, its not a problem at all, though after its writen unless you change the script yourself, your going to have to follow the directions i send with it to make it work. Basicly just make the Shader effect visual, and the object with the names i specify. Probably AAFireworksEffect for the effect, and AAFireworksObject for the object.

Edit: All that is required is a new shader effect that looks like fire works, look into shader effects and how they work. As is i could probably wip up a gigantic "detect life" effect in the sky ect, but that wouldn't be fire works. You may be able to create the new effect with the construction set alone.

Thank you Dirox, i will post when i am satisfied with the looks of the fireworks. I will try the experimenting with shaders more. biggrin.gif

Yay! Fireworks... wait... Fireworks... heh heh heh, you should be able to pick them up and fire them at guards... just like the Dwemer Blasting Charges... What? Oh, No you're not accusing ME of using Blasting charges on guards... noooo...

HAHAHA. I don't know how hard that coulld be but its probably possible. biggrin.gif
