Full Version: People with outdated Graphics cards...

I was just surfing on the web and I found this:

Oldblivion

At first I was pretty sure it was too good to be true, but then I had my friend (with an FX 5500) try it out, and he now gets 16-28 FPS in forests and no lag.

What Oldblivion does is replace sm 2.0 with sm 1.1 and it makes a BIG difference with the framerate.

The water, unfortunately, looks pretty bad with Oldblivion, but that's a small sacrifice; the other graphics look fine.

If you're not convinced, here are some screens taken on a comp with a GeForece 3 and 512 RAM:

On the site I saw that only the unstable version is available...what exactly does that mean? Does it mean that it crashes alot or just that there are alot of bugs? huh.gif

Very interesting stuff...

Nah, if you have a shiny new computer, stick with that....wish I had a shiny new computer...I'm right above Oldblivion helping me and right below the good cards, I call it the 6200 "limbo".

Some minor bugs, but they're fixing them for another version, there were some blobs in one, I think, but not too many crashes from what I've read. It's still worth it if you have an FX card or a radeon below 9600.

What about mods?
Are mods working properly with Oldblivion? No conflicts?

Well my friend bought the game only to find out his card wasn't good enough and thus couldn't play. I got the name of the game from him and bought it too. The irony is him finding out first about the game and not beeing able to play and me learning it from him and i could play it when he couldn't. He tried some other patches that didn't work and was really dissapointed. I told him about oldblivion and *puff* problems gone, he is enjoying his money worth! On his behalf...CHEERS for posting it here, works great! -so he says-.

I personally use this (I have a Geforce 4 ti 4200) and it runs great, the test version number 5 works almost as per usual with some .ini tweaks. They really do deserve credit!

MY RESULTS verysad.gif
I don't have a much ''outdated'' graphic card (RADEON x600) , but i can't enjoy Oblivion when the game drops to 2fps (this happens when few wolves attack me).
Oh well........ sad.gif

Wow, to play oblivion I bought the new radion x1900 xtx ($600 or something around there) and 2 gigs of ram ($200 a pop brining me to 3gig of ram)
