Full Version: Fortifying Magic Skills

what is the purpose in fortifying your skills, especially magic skills? in my experience when magic skills are boosted by spells, enchantments, or even being a vampire, they don't seem to benefit you in any way other than being able to buy or create spells. Also you don't get any skill perks either in your other skills. what gives?

You fortify your Destruction, your Destruction spells are cheaper to cast.
You fortify your Restoration, the cheaper you heal.
You fortify your Armor, and your armor rating grows.
You fortify your Acrobatics the higher you jump.
And many other examples.
Offcourse, those enchantments are useless if your skill is already at 100.

thanx dude, i guess i was just looking for skill perks, and to cast spells above my skill level. but let me ask you this. if you have a illusion skill of 20, and your vampire illusion bonus of +5 puts gives you a total of 25 in illusion, can you cast level 25 illusion spells? and do you get any skill perks when a bonus comes from either enchanted armor, or vampire bonuses? sorry if this is confusing, but im a little laugh.gif

Unfortunately you can't cast spells higher than your mastery level if the vampire thing (or any enchantment) puts it up. I've tried and was disappointed because I now have a completely useless (until I reach level 50 illusion) invisibility spell.

I was actually wondering what the point was of fortifying a skill over 100. I noticed it does jack (at least for magic skills). I remember fortifying my conjuration in
Morrowind so that I could summon golden saints and winged twilights easier. Now it seems that, while you get skill perks, youre stuck with them at lvl 100. Kaput. Finito. Shazam. Abra Kadabra.

Does that mean that if you have a base skill of 100 in Conjuration and fortify it by 10 it still costs the same to summon something?

Btw I miss the Golden Saints. They were sexy! wub.gif coolgrin.gif

Imagine what the Dremora though.

I loved my Saint - and she always came at my beck and call with my enchanted summoning ring! *sniff* I miss her!

Enchanted items were so uber in MW, you can't use them to cast impossible spells now. I've noticed that I CAN use a fortify magicka to cast a spell that costs more than my normal max of magicka points. I haven't tried to fortify a specific spell skill.....

Thats what happened with my finger of the mountain spell at least. It costs 710 magicka to cast and does 200 damage to either 5 - 15 (I think its 5) radius. And when I fortified my lvl 100 destruction, it did nothing. Shame really. I miss the good old days of being a better than master acrobat, where you actually had to go out of your way to do a jump that would hurt you.

Ah yes, I miss my Golden Saint Armor mod from Morrowind. I used to use it with my Wingmer sister, a winged Altmer. It looked really good with the Altmer complexion.

Shoot. I use 360 - no mods for me. (I do love my 360 though).
