I would like to know if I am alone in this problem. My 360 locks up (stops responding requiring me to turn it off and back on) at various times lately for no specific reason that I can see. Sometimes I will be running through the woods and cast a healing spell and it locks up. Sometimes I will open a storage container in my house or something like that. Anybody notice it on their systems and/or know of a fix for it?

Mine will do it occasionally when I'm getting a load screen after leaving a house. The only solution I can offer is to save often!

How To Clear the Cache on the Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 may be an amazing console, but every now and then it will freeze or suffer from a severe framerate drop. I noticed this while playing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Sounds didn't match up during battles, the screen would freeze completely, and opening doors would take up to two minutes. This is caused when the cache files on the Xbox 360 hard drive become fragmented and need cleared. Don't call Microsoft and wait an hour or more for a fix. Just read this VERY simple solution.

To clear the cache of your Xbox 360 Hard Drive do the following:

1) Boot up your Xbox 360 and place a game in the DVD tray.

2) After the Title Screen for the game appears, restart your Xbox 360

3) As the Xbox 360 is restarting hold the A Button on your controller until the Xbox 360 load screen disappears.

That's all there is to it. Now you should notice a much smoother frame rate and your games should operate at the fullest level!

EDIT didnt even see the guys post above mine...

im not 100% on this but i believe hold A while you start up your Xbox, this will clear your cache and help with OB.

something like that.

Thanks guys, will give it a try. I got the save thing down pretty good from Morrowind and its problems.

I was thinking maybe it was something in my inventory as the first time I noticed it was after I got the dog statuette from Clavicus Vile. I can't finish that quest because the game keeps locking up so I am stuck with the statuette in my inventory.

Didn't seem to change anything by following those instructions, thanks anyway.

it should work. Just make sure you hold down the A button as soon as your controler sinks until the game fully loads.

you know when it is going to happen because the music and sounds stop working, but you can still operate for a few secs before it freezes, what I did is just went to the menu before it froze and saved, and then when I came back it worked again. So try that.

I tried the "A" thing and all it did was mess up my savegames. They are still there but in total disorder and with screwed up dates.

I tried this "A" thing, but for a slightly different problem. I have the occasional freeze, but I just learnt to accept it as a fact that microsoft make shoddy consoles. Anyway the problem I used this to solve is as follows. I recently got to a certain part in the main quest, there are oblivion gates everywhere and I have a high level character who has explored lots of areas.

Just recently I started having to wait a stupid amount of time when loading, for example leaving building. I have a hard drive and this hasnt happened before. I was also having minor freezes in game, where the music continues, but everything else pauses for about 15-20 seconds. Like I said it solved my in game temporary freezing, but it seems the loading times have continued.
