Full Version: Naming enchanted items

When you enchant an item, what do you name it. It has to have a name. I personally keep ttrying to steal names from others games. It's hard to come up with names that are unique. How about you ?

Elven shortblade= Elven Might , 15pts fire and 15 pts shock

Glass dagger= Hot Glass, 40 pts fire

Glass bow= Bow of Doom= 20pts fire and 20pts shock

Well I used to try to find cool names in Morrowind, but I must admit I'm not very creative in that department anymore. I simply name them so that I quickly know what they are, like Ring of Light, Firedagger, Chameleon Boots etc... tongue.gif

I called a sword I enchanted the 1337z0r pwner blade.

laugh.gif For some reason I find that the leet language doesn't quite fit in Cyrodiil, but what are one to do with all of these leet people roaming about... biggrin.gif

I have the dagger of explosions which gives 40 points shock damage, 30 points fire damage. (It's only got 18 charges though)

I also have the amulet of preservation which fortifies my restoration 15 points, giving me access to all the spells my level 37 in restoration can't do.

There's also my Phantom Hood, 50% chameleon.

I'm a guy with way too many soulgems and money on his hands.

Welcome to my world on naming. I spend like 10 minutes thinking of a name. I just opened the TES construction set, found a last name, and a first name, made sure they go together well. And I get names like that now.
Ibis
I tend to go with Dwarven names, elven names or whatever seems to fit the character that is using the weapon or armor at the time.

I had a rippley black/grey cameoflaged type of Chitin armor in Morrowind so I called it ShadowShell since it was for characters who lurked around in shadows.
ThanadoS
i usually use things i read in books or my characters name combined with words like "revenge" "hatred" "tempest" "victory" etc. Quite lame, i know tongue.gif
DoomedOne
I jsut go with the general style of the item and it's enchantment, as that's what all the artifacts are named like anyway.

Coincidentally, right now I'm compiling the ultimate glass armor suit, each item enchanted with a compatible, and remarkably cool spell. So far I have the complete set but as soulgems are tight these days and I want each piece of be exceptionally powerful so far all I have are Raton's boots (pretty good fortify acrobatics) and Raton's shield (Pretty good reflect damage bonus). Yeah, that's how I'll name all my last pieces of armor.

I use names based on mythology. Which is a little stupid, I know, considering that Oblivion has its own mythology. Most of it involves lewd euphimisms. Still, there is nothing funnier than hitting someone with something called the Rod of Min.

Yes, I know I'm immature.

not that stupid considered the fact that oblivions mythology is partially based on real mythology (couldn't be different as both are made up by men) wink.gif
Joryn
I took the idea of famous mages sometimes have their names added into spells. Melfs acid arrow or bigbys clenched fist were some off BG games. So with my enchanted items or created spells youre likely to see "Joryn's" at the start. Then I just take it from there. One spell I use sometimes is Joryn's major Doombolt. Like most people I just take what the effect is and add it into the name.
Parkillous
I mix words (sometimes latin) with parts of words that sound cool and fitting to the setting of Cyrodiil...

few names i have are:
Elendrial
Maethas
Argos

etc

btw you might find lord of the rings lore helpful if you have any in the back of your head wink.gif
Fethenwen
I mostly go with less creative names like dagger of destruction or something. But in Morrowind I had a saber that I was very fond with :P
Tooth of the Dark Thief, it had a drain health spell in it.
Torte
I named my Elven Longsword with fire damage "Facemelter", my Daedric Claymore with shock damage "Den Shockerande Sanningen" (The Shocking Truth). Some of my armor with Feather on it was called Featherweight, but the cuirass and leggings that both gave 100, I called those Antimatter cuirass/leggings. Now my Daedric armors are just called pretty much gibberish (named after random people, including one of Sweden's murdered prime ministers from 30 years back).
Ibis
I like Parkillous and Torte's naming trends. I think I will try to be more creative.

Generally, I just ask Cain to make up a name for me ... he's good at it. Or I go to the baby namer page too ... but get oodles of ickiness from all the babiness there ... yuck!! laugh.gif
Duncan Frost
i haven't made any enchanted weapons yet dry.gif
but on morrowind my best weapon was Duncan's Mighty Smashstick Of Terrible Scary Doomballed Power biggrin.gif (75 fire damage with area 30 100 frost damage with area 50)
Olav
Not a weapon but a spell...

I messed around with the spellmaker to find the most powerful multi-damage spell I could create at Apprentice level (25 skill points). I reached 11 pts damage on target with fire, shock and frost.

I called it Eleventh Hour... tongue.gif

I generally try for something cute that is semi-descriptive. Chameleon items are usually named some variation on "*Hidden Virtue", my necklace of feather is named "*Feathyrwaet".

The asterisk is to bring them to the top of the inventory listing.

Aki
When naming a enchanted Item, I tend to go by:
A.)What would Make sense in TES
B.)What the character would name it
C.)What sounds cool.
D.)And try to relate the name to the enchantment

My Dunmer Theif Irvyn for example, carries two weapons. "Irvyn's Blade" his enchanted elven shortblade, it has a damage health enchantment, and "Red Mountain's Fury" a ebony bow with a fire enchantment.

The first is merely the character's claiming of ownership of the blade. The second makes sense, sounds cool, relates to the enchantment (Red Mountain is a volcano, and has ebony, so a ebony bow with a fire enchantment = Red Mountain's Fury), and makes sense. cool.gif
Deathadder
I made a daedric bow that does +16 fire, shock and frost damage, and has a soul trap on it, its called " The Bow of the Elements" biggrin.gif i think its pretty cool biggrin.gif , o ya and i have one that's pretty much just for show, it has a 5 pt fire damage, but is like a 50 foot radius, called "The Meteor"
MarkII
(Item) of (Something cool)

Sword of The Sun, for example, was an akiviri katana with fire a damage enchantment I made

but id also condone things like the club of bitchslapping biggrin.gif
