The Black Everest: Part I
Lessons Of Life
“Before you fight, find out what you're fighting for.”
This was a common thing said around the temple. The monks lived by this. When I was a child I always had a feeling that I was suppose to be fighting for some thing but what was I fighting for?. This quote has driven my life, to find a purpose
_____________________________________________________________
My back was against the wall. The biggest mistake of my life. Gangsarr boxed me in, western style but when you pin someone to the wall; all you want to do (in order to win) is beat the living hell out of them. But I didn’t blame him. There were no rules in this fight. I tried to keep my guard up but I was getting weary. Left right left right. My arms were num now from the hits. I felt pain all over my body; it was as if I was being attacked by a pack of wolves on all sides. I was. I thought I was going to die, to be honest. Beat up to death in this arena…by my best friend too. What a great way to die. There was nothing to do at this point. I threw my body at him another stupid mistake, we rolled on the ground. “Ahhhh!”. I heard a popping noise, It was Gangsarr. He had dislocated his left arm.
We looked at each other, deep in the eyes. I expected to see a monster a beast that had ripped out of my friend’s insides and took control of him. Possess him. But when I saw his eyes…oh, his soft, cool eyes. I knew he was still there and he was scared. The crowd was cheering; the arena was filled with noise. The monks were off their feet and cheering for us. I smiled. I had to make my final hit count. The killing blow. I saw Gangsarr’s stance, it was the Cycle of Blood an old Redguard fighting style. Both my arms came up (symmetrically) to where I could see them, in front of my chest.
I took a deep breath and slowly opened both palms. A defensive position. The ancient Rain-of-Sand' fighting styles of Elsweyr. Before a battle, Nords yell their best battle cry, they were famous for it. And so was Gangsarr. I was scared as hell, the arena was quiet. “Ahhhhargghh!!!” He was charging at me. My palms were still open. He was running so fast. My feet dug into the wet ground. Here he comes… And then, and then I wasn’t sure what happened next, it was all a blur.
But I found myself looking up into the terrace, the sky was so beautiful. “Dane…” It was Gangsarr’s soft low voice but it sounded so weak so…lost. “Yes?” “You fight like hell brother”. I smiled. All of the long years we shared together in this temple, I never realized we were brothers. From the blood and the sweat. To the punches and kicks; and from the broken bones and bruises we exchanged. We became brothers. The giant Nord and the skinny Breton. Perfect. I could hear a raucous going about in the stands. The monks were leaving the arena. “Bravo, bravo” Master Zhul knelt before us. “A very good match indeed” He smiled. His face was filled with energy and excitement. I felt so defeated so exhausted Gangsarr felt the same way to I bet. “Master, I –“He placed a finger on his wrinkled lips ‘Ssshhhh” he whispered. I couldn’t see what he was doing but I felt an aura inside and around my body. It was healing me, easing the pain. Did I hit him?, did I hit him? It didn’t matter anymore, it was over. A draw.
Author's Note; Ok well I posted this at the ES forums and was really grateful with all the good coments there, so I'll give it a go and post it here aswell. Also my absence to make the first post of the story longer was because I was so excitied to get it started. I'll try to make them bigger in the future. Thanks

Lessons of Life
After the fight with Gangsarr I went to my quarters and wiped the blood from my mouth. I looked at the mirror. Scars from previous fights laced my bare body. My mother once told me when I was young that: Scars are another way to discept ones life, for they always haunt you. They are always there no matter what you do to your body, be it mentally or physically. I wondered why my mother told me this. I had many scars.
_____________________________________________________________
Gangsarr dipped his big toe into the water. “Holy ---- It’s freezing!”
I laughed and being the big show-off that I am, I dived into the pond. It’ actually was cold but I tried to look cool.
“C’mon Gangsarr you baby!” I started back stroking toward the little water fall that overlooked the pond, shivering my but off! I floated on the water. I always felt relaxed when I swam around the pond, it just felt good but before I could fully enjoy my leisure time I sensed something below me, Gangsarr and his antics.
“Okay Gangsarr I give –“He pulled me down into the water and placed me into a submission hold. His arms were tightly around my neck and his legs wrapped around my waist. A minute had past by and he swam back up for a breather.
“Dane?” My body bobbled up, lifeless. He swam toward me and held me in his arms. “Dane, Dane!” Gangsarr started to panic and began shaking me “Dane!” My eyes opened wide, like it would when your eyes adjust to the light when you’ve been in a dark room. My arms lunged to his neck and I jolted behind him. I had him in the exact submission hold he had me in. “Okay. I…give…up” I released my grip and patted him on the back. We started laughing.
We started to head back to the Temple soon after sunset. We arrived at the gate but no one seemed to be behind the walls of the stronghold, the gate guards weren’t even in the watch towers.
“Must be in the meeting house” Gangsarr implied. “Yeah, but it’s to quite” I looked at Gangsarr he had a worried face on. “Come one” I said. I started to back away from the walls. “Where you going?” Gangsarr was always worry wart. “Come on!” I said again. I started jogging lightly and then gain speed and just as it looked I was going to run into the wall, I jolted over it doing an aerial flip.
My ankles embraced the grass hard. Not soon after Gangsarr came leaping over too, unfortunately he landed on his but. “Come on you goof.” The Temple (well it wasn’t exactly the temple itself but we referred to it as our town) was like a ghost town. We checked a few of the student quarters and they were empty. We checked the meeting house, the mess hall, the arena, and even the Temple and the library. Gone. There was one more place we haven’t checked yet. Grand Master Onasi’s house, which was behind the temple. The courtyard gate was open. Master Onasi never left it opened. “This doesn’t feel right Dane, what happen to all the students…the masters!” I looked back at Gangsarr who closed the gate behind him.
“Shhh, I sense something inside.” “Yeah I do too…sadly.” The front door was slightly opened too. “Prepare yourself brother.” I said. In situations like these I had always acted like the big brother. We went inside Onasi’s house. “Hello?”
And then as the door closed something shocking, terrified me. It was Master Zhul’s body, dead body lying on the floor and a strange dagger in his back. “Master!” Gangsarr and I said in unison. We were too late, he had bled to death. My fingers closed his cold eyes, I was mortified. “What’s happening Dane” He walked in circles his hand to his head. “I don’t know Gangy, I just don’t know. Wait.” There was a muffled voice in the library. Two exactly. I ran to door that led to Onasi’s library, took a deep breath (I was afraid to see what was behind the walls to be honest) and opened the door. Locked! “It’s locked Gangsarr” “Move out my way Dane” Gangsarr pushed me aside and rammed the door breaking it into splinters.
We rushed in and I was so stunned I couldn’t move. There was a portal right in front of Onasi’s book sets. And then I saw a glimpse of a foot disappear into the portal. I don’t what was more shocking the portal or the disappearing foot. I saw Gangsarr leaping into the portal but to no avail the portal had closed and Gangsarr slammed into the stacks of books. “Dammit!” Gangsarr punched the floor in frustration. And then as random as the portal and disappearing foot a piece of paper floated onto the ground. I quickly went to reach it. It was a note. “What is it Dane?” Gangsarr patted his pants from the dust that those ancient books had contain. “A note, and it is written in Grand Master Onasi’s handwriting” The ink had smudged in several sentences but I could make most of it out.
To Dane and Gangsarr: strange things have happened ----------- I must-------make----------there---now------ has been a conflict of----------demons-------They have round up most of the students but Master Zhul made a feeble attempt to rebel against the----------I have hidden in the storage room, hopefully they won’t find me here.--------------You must travel to Vvardenfell and talk to a Sirollus Saccus about The Black Everest. I----you two luck.
I rose to my feet. A lot of things were on my mind, everything happened so quickly. I turned to face Gangsarr “We must travel to Vvardenfell”

Lessons of Life
When I still lived with my mother, I would always play with her. Oh I loved her so much but over the years she grew very sick. She was hard at work during the night mainly after my dad had died. So we hired a maid; a Kahjiit named Rhazzi. I would play with Rhazzi too; she was like an aunt with me. I loved both of them very much but when I had been transferred to the temple I had mixed feelings about my family. I had always wondered why, if they loved me so much why they would send me away. But over my adult years I knew why; it was because they loved me. My mother and Rhazzi wanted me to have a better life. But sometimes I think the better life would be with them.
_____________________________________________________________
We patted the soft ground with our shovels. I looked at the grave; this grave marked every Monk’s life that was either killed or taking in prison from the demons. Sorrow filled my soul. “Come on Gangsarr, we better start going.” I memorized the letter Grand Master Onasi wrote for us. Reading it over and over again in my head and then I felt a sudden shock…
Shantay pulled back the string; the bow curving to the weight. Her two fingers slipped off the bow’s string and there was a soft twang. The arrow came heeding into one of the dark warrior’s head. “Master there’s too many of them, we must flee!” Shantay said. “No, we shall hold our ground we must save Grandmaster Onasi” The dark warriors were already overwhelming the feeble group of monks.
There was grim in the eyes of Master Zhul. These dark warriors were slowly circling the monks; there faces hidden behind shades of dark cloth only there red evil eyes could be seen through the face mask. An evil that scared Shantay to her bones. “We will make a charge at the Grandmaster’s house; we cannot afford Master Onasi to be taken away. Zhul whispered to his students. But little did Master Zhul knew Master Onasi had already been taken through the portal.
“Charge my warriors, charge!”
…
“Dane, Dane wake up” I felt someone shake my body and then my eyes cam back to reality. Gangsarr sighed in relief. “I thought I had lost you…your eyes…they looked so lost.”
“I think I’m ok brother.” I stood up and felt incredibly lightheaded; I stumbled into Gangsarr’s arms and doze off. “Dane, don’t worry me like this. “ He mumbled something else but I couldn’t hear him; I felt like I was in a hangover, did I have a vision? I wasn’t sure. “Hear drink this.” I felt a cool liquid trickle into my mouth. What ever it was it tasted really bitter. “Thanks brother.” And then I remembered the vision I had.
“Gangsarr I think I had a vision-“ I tried to say but Gangsarr interrupted me “Well, whatever it was you can tell me later. We better start going a storm is brewing up. Oh, while you were sleeping I packed for the both of us, here.” Gangsarr handed me a cloth bag in it were two pairs of shirts and pants, fresh undergarments, a sewing kit and loafs of bread. Gangsarr was leaning on the hilt of a silver Longsword.
“Oh, I found this too” He handed me a bow and a quiver that looked fairly familiar. “Shantay’s…” I whispered. “I found her bow and quiver near the temple garden; though you would like it.” Gangsarr implied. “Thanks Gangy.”
I flung the quiver over my shoulder; the arrows almost flew out of it. I tied the cloth bag around my waist and held Shantay’s bow in my hands. Gangsarr had two cloth bags that were full; he threw the strings around his head and the bags were now hanging from his neck. He sheathed the sword and placed the sheath inside his brown robes and started heading for the gate. I took one more look around the Temple, I took one more look around my home…

Yeah, I got a little confused on who's talking to who, too.

You fixed it a bit, but keep up the new paragraphs for everytime someone else talks, okay?

Because I really like your story, and I do not like being a bit lost when reading a good story, okay?

Lessons of Life
Fear. Heh, I never was so filled with fear until the day when I was on the steps of the temple. I was looking into the large double doors of the temple. My mother, she abandoned me…she left me all alone. What was I suppose to feel? When those big doors opened I swear I wetted myself. I backed away screaming for my mother. I thought demons would come out and rip me into Oblivion but there were no demons. What I saw back then was the most beautiful woman I have ever seen as beautiful as my mother. “Welcome” she said “welcome to your new home Dane.”
_____________________________________________________________
The rain was pouring so hard on us. I never knew it could rain this hard. We made it not just two miles before it started to storm, so we took refuge under this bridge we were about to cross. I could still see the temple, tucked away in the Wrathgarian Mountains; it was almost…creepy; looking back on what should now be forgotten.
“Here you go Dane.” Gangsarr handed me a loaf of fresh bread.
“It smells delicious” I said. I took bits of bread and nibbled on them.
“The weather is clearing up.” Gangsarr paused and pulled out a map and laid it on the dirt floor. He pointed on the Wrathgarin Mts. and made an imaginary line with his finger toward Wayrest. “That is where we need to be; after we reach Wayrest we can take a ship across the Iliac Bay to Daggerfall. Then destiny well guide us.” He snickered
I nodded and we began and eating our bread again.
After a few hours I heard a loud thump noise not to far of where we were.
“Do you here that Gangsarr.” I whispered but Gangsarr was already sleeping like a baby. I craned my head and listened; another loud thump. I took my quiver and bow and headed up to the noise. The noise took me half a mile up into a grove. I nocked and arrow to my bow and scanned the area.
“Nothing.’ I said to myself and loosen the grip on my bow.
Right then something knocked me down to the ground on my knees. The same thing that knocked me down kicked me in the stomach and pressed it’s hard, like iron plated boot on my chest. The mass was suffocating me. A hot, wet slobber dripped onto my face. Right there I was face to face with an angry Orc. He, yes I’m sure the Orc was an he; sniffed my face. Without satisfaction he left off into the grove. I groped at the wound in my chest.
The Orc made it only several meters away from me before an arrow struck into his hard skin. I nocked another arrow and let it fly into his arm. The Orc pulled out the first arrow in his leg with great strength and pulled his war hammer high in the air and charged at me. Another arrow whizzed into his body, this time it took effect because he was now hobbling toward me. Right when I was nocking another arrow the orc paused he dropped his war hammer. Fear was in his eyes and he fled away.
“Haha! Run back to your mother, Orc” I was happy and relieved. I pulled myself up and turned around.
I stopped right there in my boots. A much greater threat was just ahead of me. *thump *thump*

Thanks for the compliments all. Enjoy!
Whatever it was, it was huge. Its neck was as long as my body…it walked on four legs and scales that looked as tough as ebony. Eyes red as hot molten lava, horns that could pick someone up from the ground and threw them into the sky. I backed away a few steps, I couldn’t even comprehend this…this thing! It was a few meters away from me, hunger was probably on its mind; heh that was probably the only thing on his mind.
I nocked an arrow to my bow and let it fly. The arrow just bounced off from his tough scales. It probably didn’t even notice me. “Well that was stupid.” I said to myself.
It roared a vicious roar well more of a screech but it was still ear shattering. I kneeled onto the ground plugging my ears with my hands. I screamed in pain, my ears felt like they were going to explode. A few seconds later it stopped which seemed like an eternity. But the unexpected happened it just turned around and slowly was going away from me.
“Hey, hey you come back!” I yelled.
I was about to cast a fireball spell until I noticed a sword was stuck onto its back. I couldn’t believe I didn’t notice until now! There were skeletons littered all over the grove, heck it probably wasn’t even a grove more like a nesting ground for this lizard monster.. Dead warriors, who tried to kill this monster, sent from local towns but never came back. Maybe that was the Orc’s one intention but he fled from only te size of it. I watched as it was walking away, its huge tail wagging from side to side.
I was to smart for my own good so I left and went back to camp. I told everything to Gangsarr but all he did was laugh the whole way threw the story.
Several hours later it started to storm again. We were lucky enough to fine this bridge as it is. There wasn’t much to protect us from the rain when it came from an angle, just an inch thick blanket. I was looking out from under our shelter; my gaze was as free as the ocean.
“How long do you think the storm will keep up?” I asked Gangsarr
Gangsarr shrugged “Sunrise…I hope.”
--------------------------------------------------
Sunrise, its bright and early; just the way I like it. There were a few puddles on the ground but the rain had finally stopped. I sat up and stretched my body, Gangsarr was already up getting the supplies ready. We were finally going to be on the road again, one step closer to save the students and Master Onasi; one step closer to Morrowind.
