Full Version: Guild/group Suggestion thread
Chorrol.com > Elder Scrolls Games > Oblivion
DoomedOne
So, this oblivion thread really isn't working, mostly because few want to make any suggestions, it seems pointless. The devs read the official forums. But, the official forums are on a huge downward decline. Any thread related to the system specs, what the game could handle, or comparing next-gens to PCs, turns into another flame fest.

So, I say we need to start this board off right and give some real suggestions, and maybe we can get bethsoft to start looking here for some suggestions easier on the eyes.

This thread is dedicated to groups/guilds you'd like to see in Oblivion.

I'd like to see included all the classics. Thieves, fighters, mages, Morag Tong, Cammona Tong, Vampire Clans, Imperial Legion, etcetera.

Confirmed: Arena, Assassins, Fighters, Mages, (what am I forgeting?)

On top of that, I'd like to see the Twin Lamps Adapted. I don't want to see the Twin Lamps, I want to see a group similar, as in, something that occurs that is not illegal, but definitely immoral, and a vigilante group that deals with it.

I'd like to see the Legion upgraded, since this is their capital, there should be a much higher possiblity of rank. In fact, one version of the main quest that you choose may be becoming their Dragon or whatever they call it.

I'd like to see the Vampire Clans greatly improved, and change them up much more so they hold different styles to how they live as vampires.

I'd like to see a version of the great House system, where, in the absense of the emperor, viceroys, dukes and the everyone with a good portion of power and support are warring for the throne in a secret war.

I'd like to see Bandit Bands, but it'd take some work to join. For one, they move, and are usually found in a camp site some where. For two, they'd be a rather tight-nitched group so you'd have to earn the trust of the leader.

At least one werewolf pack. Men are the most sociable animal. Wolves are like 3rd or 4th next to Chimps and maybe some other Simian. A wolf-man would therefore not hunger to be alone if he knew there were others like him. The only reason they're alone is because they don't have any others they know that are also werewolves. When it's not time for them to change, the pack is under cover as a regular bandit band, so few know what they are.

Some sort of entertainers' guild or a troupe or something. A while back we talked about bards being regular bards that could play music and gain a lot of prestige, and basically play the game using their charisma for the most part. (As in, maybe you wouldn't be strong enough to beat that monster in the woods, but you'd be such a likable guy that wanderers would help you escape, or the town guards would rush to your aid) Well, that's practically another type of class, and needs a guild.

Add more, or criticize mine.

I'm not to sure about that last one. Do you mean that you would play an instrument as a weapon? tongue.gif

Arena? I thought I heard something about that, but I dismissed it as a rumor. Gladiatorial matches would add so much to the game, in fact I'd think that would be my second fav guild, short of the Legions of course.

And on what has been repeated many times on the main forums, I def. think that you should be recognized by your rank in the guilds. It always bugged me to be the Knight of the Imperial Dragon, or whatever, and have a common soldier tell me to move along!?

i need a hunters guild. especially one to daedra hunting. and also a guild devoted to worship

The Camonna Tong and Morag Tong are specific to Morrowind.

The Morag Tong will be replaced by the Dark Brotherhood.

There won't be any Great Houses.

I have to say that I greatly like that idea. So much so that I suggested something similar on the official forums a while ago. When it comes to this topic, I always have to automatically think of Babylon 5 and the Centauri and their great houses, with their private wars, poison, betrayal and secrets. I'd love stuff like that! :goodjob:

Have you ever read/or seen any of the Dune books? There great house's were crazy sometimes, but I still thought it was intrigueing(SP?)...

The assasins guild will still be in it right? The dark brotherhood doesn't replace them to does it? Cause isn't the dark BH an evil type of organization?

Well, the Dark Brotherhood is an assassin's guild, the biggest and most fearsome of Tamriel. And yes, of course they are evil.

As far as the Dune books go, I've read the first and part of the second and you are correct, the houses there also do fit as templates for great houses in Oblivion. Perhaps a little less black and white. The Harkonnen were just plain evil, and the Atreidis pure good. I don't think I'd want anything like that in Oblivion...
Darkwing
I don't think the DB are classed as evil as there doesnt appear to be a definition of good or evil in TES. They're just really nasty.

like.

a lot.

nasty.

But... isn't Cammona Tong Morrowind's NATIVE criminal syndicate ? How would it be possible to incorporate it into Cyrrodilic enviroment ? I would rather like to see some imperial pandan to Cammona.

Again, I have a problem. It is already been said that OB will be set at least a decade after MW and slavery would be outlawed in the entire Empire - so, why would a anti-slavery group still exist in such setting ?

Now this is a definite yes - the elite imperial forces need to have uber-weapons and uber-armor - of course, only for a priviledged few who rise in their ranks so high that they alone [as heroes] can beat the mainstay of daedric forces.

As for my wants, I'll just repeat what I said several months on TES forums: the one thing I'd really love to see is weapons with their own special moves and combos, as seen with weapons in BLADE OF DARKNESS - now, I know that OB won't be a hack'n'slash like BOD, but still it would be awesome to see your fighting character dodge the initial enemy's attack and then use his masterwork longsword/claymore/battleaxe/warhammer/whatever to perform a series of complex moves that would turn his/hers opponent into a pile of minced meat :evil6:

Well, not necessarily a group of people fighting against slavery.

Just a vigilante group. smile.gif

Ummm.... the republicans ?
The Khajit Liberation Front ?! biggrin.gif

Seriously, I don't see how there would be any room for a vigilantee group in the middle of a country in chaos - you'd already have your standard bandits, thugs, the Dark Brotherhood, Imperial Army, daedric forces... well, maybe there could be some rebell peasants [Gothic 2 style ?], but still when I look at scenario for TES IV I see an empire which is crumbling down and falling into chaos. Any dedicated group of individuals in such conditions wouldn't be preoccupied with causes - they would be preoccupied with looting and other forms of crime... but that's just my 2 cents.

But that would mean that you would have a few people that actually devote their time to stopping crime.. Some people do have a hint of moral justice in them
DoomedOne
Yeah, again, I never said twin lanterns, I said a version of twin lanterns with a completely different cause. Frankly, if a government is destroyed, no one jsut sits up and says, "great time to loot." The army doesn't know where to go usually and falls under many different "sub-leaders" which transform into factions, the people start their own factions, or join udner currents ones, and it transforms into a war for a new dictatorship. Under this "transition" as it were, there would be alot of people taking advantage of the weakness the guards have to uphold law, and in response, a vigilante group could easily form.

Maybe an Ayleid faction? One where you maybe re-establish them as a formidable race or something...

hello everyone! I am new to the forums, and this is me first post. anyways, I think that there should be an archer's guild, where you have to kill people or get items using stealth and archery ( of course) and things like that.

maybe you could start your own guild, maybe even call it a gang or mafia. and go around doing your thing.

also i thought it would be cool to work for a company, like the East Empire Company or whatever it was called.

or get into a moon sugar dealing business
Intestinal Chaos

I'm pretty sure house-like factions are already in being. But unlike in Morrowind they are part of the main quest. They said there was one ending but multiple ways to achive it. I belive the multiple ways include faction jumping or just sticking with one straight faction.
