and I need help finding a better bow. Right now, my bow is a regular Dwarven that deals 10 damage...I just shut down my fifth Oblivion gate and the enemies have such a high level of health that it takes 6 or 7 arrows just to kill a Cinnefear, much less a Daedra Spider or Daedroth. Needless to say, I had to resort to running past most of the enemies in the actual tower. As a matter of fact, I really need better gear all around. Do you know of any places to steal high level light armor/bows?

I would suggest that you go to a dungeon and just go through the whole thing. Chances are they are you will find a better bow. I got my glass in some elvish dungeon.

Aha...I feel kinda dumb. I just hit up Belletor's Folly, which I hadn't explored yet, and found an Ebony bow that does 16 damage.

You could also walk to Lewawin from the Imperial city, there is a TON of bandits along that road, many with bows.

Thats a good idea Zelda. Anyone want to start a thread on the relative "safety" of the various rodes?? Maybe something along the lines of how many attacks between each city. Also, do bandits ever attack in groups? And if so, if they are all hitting you and you move quickly, can you get them to hit eachother? And THEN, will they FIGHT eachother?? GOD I WANT THIS GAME!! My wife sent it on monday. One time, I got a package from her in 9days, another time, it was 11 days, and last week I got one in 6 days.... cross your fingers all, I am hoping for Mon-Wednesday next week.... I wiped off a bunch of stuff, uninstalled old games, ran defrag and I am going to try get my drivers updated this weekend...
still waiting4oblivion...
*sigh*
Guess I will continue reading TreyDog's wonderful Fiction and dream...

Yes they do hit each other by accident. If they didnt, I would never have killed a deadra mage.

To any marksman-type character, I HIGHLY suggest looking on TESsource to get the Higher Bow Damage plugin. I totally understand what you were talking about, and I chanced upon the mod. It makes your life a lot easier, but not overpowering. I felt it was really stupid/expensive to shoot 5-10 arrows in one of the Clannfears in the gates, and that's not counting some of the Daedroths and such. The mod bumps up the damage for bows, balancing it, I guess. I think bows seem to do less damage even with a "higher" attack because of the time it takes to pull the string back, let the arrow fly, etc. I have the mod, and am loving it. Might wanna check it out.

I don't think bows need to be stronger. They are MUCH better than in MW and have their primary use as a stealth weapon. You can easily kill almost anything from the shadows with a decent enchanted bow (say, with 10 pts frost dmg) and enchanted arrows with the skill and sneak bonuses). As you've seen many others post, it's even a viable melee option as is with a high speed/agility as you can back away and shoot them without letting them get close.

Yeah, I got myself an enchanted Ebony bow that does a base damage of 17, plus ten fire, ten shock.
I'm at somewhat of a disadvantage because I didn't really play Morrowind too extensively, so I'm really still learning the fundamentals of the best weapons and armor to utilize, and how to enchant them.
The only true weakness of my character now seems to be my armorer skill, which is only 12 or 13 levels away from being able to fix magic items...
Oblivion is an excellent game, however, and one of it's many brilliant points is that is does allow you to make mistakes and correct them, if you comprehend the mistake that you made...

Yep, there are several skills which have been turned on their heads.... (BTW, just crossed 80 hours in game!!!)
I won't bother to upgrade security at all, as the skeleton key is easy to get (and the mini-game lets you open anything anyway).... I won't bother with personality either, since speechcraft is easy to master and money has a hard ceiling so mercantile is useless as well. Armorer is ESSENTIAL. You can't fix magic items until level 50 and level 75 lets you increase armor/weap effectiveness by 75 (it was the first skill I sought out the master trainer for).
Lol, loving the game, maybe I'll even play the main quest line soon
