Full Version: Dark Brotherhood Question

Zaraki Kenpachi
So, as we all know, to join the Dark Brotherhood you must first kill an innocent person. When you do, it says "Your actions have been observed by forces unknown..." or some such, indicating the Dark Brotherhood now is aware of you.

But since the guards always come (at least so far, in my experiences), if you go to jail, will the Dark Brotherhood still approach you? Or do you have to get away for them to take notice?

I'm new here and tried searching for this topic but couldn't come up with anything, so I'm sorry if it's a re-post smile.gif

Thanks in advance,

ZK
Agent Griff
I think that going to prison won't stop the process. Once you get out off prison A member of the Dark Brotherhood will pay you a little visit at night.
Psuedo
The easiest way to get invited to the Dark Brotherhood is by doing a quest you can get from the grand champion of the Arena guild. After you have done this quest you will have to go through the ranks of the Arena guild and beat the grand champion. Because you have done the quest for him his will to live on is a bit on the low side and this will benefit you smile.gif won't spoil more than that tongue.gif and the best of it is that it's completely legal biggrin.gif no guards chasing you afterwards wink.gif you even earn a lot of gold smile.gif

I myself joined really early, like right after the kvatch gate. I "accidentilly" shot a man with an arrow i befriended in there after i got impatient for his death (i couldnt help myself from shooting those scamps) since he seemed to have good loot, and well you get off scat free and with an invitation.

I joined, I killed a begger, after I gave him a gold peice... I almost feel bad... I lost a gold peice... biggrin.gif j/k
Tellie
Ahh...thats how you join...killing innocents...DOH...I have been roaming the land searching for them...I have only been to 2 cities though embarrased.gif..

Well, thanks for the info...oh soul, i pity you...poor coin, given away by his master..shame...do give the coin my compliments:D tongue.gif
Soulseeker3.0
lol yeah the beggers are pretty common in the Imperial City, just go into some ally and chances are you'll find one. And ps, don't kill to many beggers, they are important if you want to do something else... thats about all i'll say...
DoomedOne
I, as an honest member of the thieves guild, didn't want to disrespect the Gray Foxes eyes and ears, so I didn't want to kill a begger. I killed some random girl at a stable.
bloodyfish
You can kill someone who is sleeping, use the lock spell on the door so the gaurds cant come in and sleep in the now empty bed. The brotherhood should come to you. I think.

I didn't know the beggers had anything to do with Gray Fox at that time... and I don't think they will hold anything against me... I still have to formally "join" though

The guards always come? If you are unable to murder a simple civilian without being caught, you might not be the material wanted by the Night Mother for the Dark Brotherhood.

Increase your sneak and security, find a decent person to kill. It is best to kill a person who is by themself inside a building and use sneak to get a decent first slash. The diffucult part of this is if you aren't strong enough, the person may bash you to little bloody bits and if he is weak he will run for the guards. I forget exactly who I murdered, but I was not arrested or outlawed in any way.

If you get your sneak up high enough, you can get like a 6x damage mulitplier by striking someone while sneaking, if they don't see you that is.

Actually, as I think about it, a good target would probably be a farm somewhere or a weak beggar. But don't kill a beggar if you are in the Theives Guild, as they are guild members...
bloodyfish
That farm thing is a good idea. I was going to kill the people in slave house of some lord guy near a gate. But oops he had no slaves. Just 12 slave houses.
MarkII
hah, so it appears the colour of night is blood red!
bloodyfish
Ive been killing people and whenever I kill them in 1 hit, I dont get seen. Whats up with this?
Soulseeker3.0
just go into the open and kill someone, not in sneak, but just out in the open. someone will see you
bloodyfish
Oh ok thanks.

But what about gaurds? Il be caught halfway into the crime.
DoomedOne
yeah it was a sort of a beat to the punch with me, there was someone awake in the room and it took three hits to kill the person asleep, so guards came but I killed them first. This was after like a billion unsuccessful attempts with other people.
bloodyfish
I used the power attack. The guy literally flew off the bed. And I got a 4x attack. But they didnt come. Good thing too, it was a leader of the town could have had impact on mainquest.

You don't need the guards to come, you'll be observed by the brotherhood and they'll visit you when you sleep in a 'secure area.' The sleeping kills in which your target flies off the bed are my favorite smile.gif
bloodyfish
They didnt come though.
Volsung
I destroyed the little encampment outside of Kvatch. I ran away, slept, and became a member. I am now a silencer, <3.
bloodyfish
Yay, I got in. All the items have so many bonuses!
Lellodwin
The way i got in was by breaking into the house that was closed by the imperial guard and the owner thrown in jail for calling the night mother.
When ransacking upstairs a guard came out of the bedroom and I resisted arrest. Killing him, the message came up and they found me later.
although the 1st time i saved it to see if i could kill him and i did it was funny.
Furious_George
There are so many ways to join - but you can never leave! smile.gif

I have reached the rank of Listener ..... ooooh it's fun, and creepy. Waited til my kids were in bed to do the DB quests.
Pieinsky
I'm having problems joining the DB since every one I attempt to kill on the motive of joining the DB falls Unconscious instead of dying.

Please help. If any of you can recomend a person that will actually die! nono.gif that would be great. biggrin.gif
Blitz
The people that were falling unconscious are quest important people so they can't die until your done with them. But a good place to kill someone is a city Just Northeast of Leyawiin a little town with no guards it's like Blackband or something like that but Just kill someone at night and If you can't Kill him fast enough turn the difficulty down kill him (1-2 Hits) then switch back the difficulty.

One way to tell if they are a quest-important person is when you look at them, instead of an eye, you see a crown when your cursor hovers over them.
rzrgenesys187
i liked going to jail that way i got an invitation to the thieves guild as well
Khaine
I killed one of the legion guards helping in kavatch to loot its wonderfull plate armor and... got invited as a reward smile.gif
MerGirl
Yes, the DB visits you in your sleep, even if you get in jail. However, they will not visit you during your 'jail time' sleep-event. Only if you go to somewhere more suitable, like the beds in an inn or in your other guilds (mage, fighter). smile.gif

I should know, since I've been caught killing a stable-girl or two, and been put into prison a few times. wink.gif

So, basically:

*1) You must kill an innocent person.

*2) That person has to be killed out of cold murder/for no good reason, not just because you were defending yourself. (You have to be the one hitting the person first.) And if that person's threatening you, and you kill him/her, it does not count!

*3) If that person's a 'bad guy' in a quest, he/she's not your 'innocent' person. tongue.gif

*4) Important quest people (usually people with a crown symbol instead of the regular talk symbol) just become unconsious(sp?). They don't die.

*5) Try to kill people who are not in your guild. Kill unimportant people, such as a farmer or horse-trainer... Anyone except guild members.

*6) Try not to kill beggars if you don't want to be kicked out of the Thieves guild... As tempting as it is. wink.gif

Hope this helps! smile.gif

Konji
Or you can do the arena quest and do the last battle the alternative way. smile.gif That's how I got it.
