ok had the game for 4 hours now, but when it starts up the movies play, then 95% of the time my comp just resets. i have made it to the main window a couple of times but thats it. didnt try to load the game when i did get in(probably should have to see if that worked)
specs:
amd athlon 2.4g
1g ram
ati 9500pro cat6.3 drivers
dx9 february release
oh and im asking here cause the main boards are down and im not sure what to try to fix it. it should just be a software issue, but everything is up to date. think ill try the catalyst 6.2 see what happens then
any ideas? thanks

Ok, I had a problem ALL the time with my comp a while ago.
I replaced my video card, sprayed out dust, and replaced my motherboard.
Just look into your fans, and see if you can find any big dust chunks that you can pull out.
I now have a program that tracks the temperature of my CPU, it usually is around 30 to 40, but I'm in trouble if it gets to 49. Thats what the problem was for me, dust in the fan preventing good cooling while it needs to process alot.(The Sims 2 or half Life 2)

You felt inside the fan and there is nothing?
Bleh. The only thing I can think of then is a program(which only my father has an idea how to use) which looks for missing peices of RAM and trys to fix them...or something like that.
But I wouldn't think thats the problem... damaged ram isn't...really common from what I've seen. But it is a possiblity. A small one.

ok ive got it workin (somehow) with newest drivers (already had them) and uninstalling a bunch of old programs. mainly alcohol soft and daemon tools cause i read somewhere that the starforce protection wont work with these installed. although i heard oblivion isnt starforce... seemed to work, now im off to play:P

I have had the same problem with my old pc. It was the power suply that failed to feed the pc with enough power to drive the game, so the pc just restartet or shut down.
Edit: didn't see your last post, cause I wrote this while you where posting

Bah, I just got the game, but the install is going extremely slowly... I've had it on for at least 5-10 minutes and the bar is still at 1, is this normal?

I don't have the game yet, but I've seen this kind of thing before. Do you have Norton Antivirus? If so, I can help ya get it working.

Ah, nevermind. Took it a good 10-15 minutes and then suddenly it started up full speed and installed in no time. Unfortunately, though, it keeps on crashing when I go out of the sewers.

Must be the forests. I know this isn't the most encouraging thing to say, but you should try turning your settings down and see if it works.

Last it happened to me it was my cpu fan that had failed causing my cpu to shut down.
I don't have the game yet, but according to system requirements, you are very close to the minimum, so Oblivion will be very demanding for your system.
maybe your pc isn't cooled well enough (?)

I just got the game and whenever I start it up it says that it has experienced a problem and must close. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I know that due to my system specs that I would only be able to run the game at medium settings at best but I can't even get into the game itself. Is there any known issues on this?

consoles are the devils children, especially playstations. but even if this new xbox is alright (for those strange people who can do everything with thumbs), pc is the way to got with games like this in the long run because of the mods.
