Alexander
Welcome everyone, to the Oblivion contest.

We got together with a couple of other Elder Scrolls websites - Elderscrolls.NET, Oblivion Source, Planet Elder Scrolls, TESSource and the Imperial Library - and decided to run a contest; Mostly to shorten the waiting time, but also because we think it'll be a lot of fun. The contest is about dressing up like someone from Tamriel: a person, a creature a monster - whatever you want. To spice things up, Bethesda and ourselves are donating some very cool prizes for the three best entries. So be sure to check it out, participate, and most of all: have fun!

Borrowing a bit from Stargelman here:

What is it about?

Simple: dress up as a citizen or monster of Tamriel and take a photo of it! The choice of motive is entirely yours, as long as it fits into the general Elder Scrolls theme.

How does it work?

A panel of seven judges from the Elder Scrolls scene will pick the best entries which will win our great prizes, most of which have been graciously donated by Bethesda Softworks! Check out the prizes here. The only condition to enter the contest is that you send a "normal" picture of yourself without disguise so we can be sure it's really you. This picture will not be published. Additionally, if you wish to protect your privacy, you can choose to have your picture published without name.
A link to the Prizes:
Prizes

What happens to my pictures?

Your entry picture will be published on the official contest forum. Updates will be made every 1-2 days. Your verification photo without costume will be kept confidential.

Who can enter?

Really anyone! Except the judges and staff of the participating fan sites, of course. That is, they can enter, but they cannot win smile.gif

But ... I'm shy!

Despair not. If you so wish, you can choose for your entry to be anonymous. This means your entry picture will be shown, but only with an entry number, not with your name alongside it. Please note: Your private (verification) photo will never be shown, no matter if you select the anonymous option or not. Only the judges will see it, and it will be deleted after the contest has finished.

Ok, I'm ready! Where do I sign up?

Easy! Just click Here and upload your pictures!

Now I assume that answers most of your questions, you can find a simple statement of the rules of the contest here:

Should you have any other questions, feel free to ask them in this thread.

Wow, this sounds like real fun! I think I actually might participate! Now I just need to figure out a good character/monster and start working with the costume smile.gif. This might actually make the waiting a little bit easier.
Miltiades
Can't wait to take a look at all those cool entries, so send them in!

Best of luck to all of you! viking.gif

... but... but... I don't have a good camera, costumes and I'm shy... Lol
I do have a big ol' broadsword, shield and bowl helmet in my attic, though!
Jokkocze
Im so gonna participate!

Think I'll put on my the full armor, grab my big sword and let my bro take a photo..

But how important is the background? Is a living room ok? Or would a big white sheet be better?
Vinya
I have a WICKED awesome idea for mine...... >:D but its somewhat predictible. Just a question: if we don't have the right props, can we paint them in? Or does it all have to be "real"
Donny
ooohhh i think ill try it out. Nothing to lose here, but something to win....nice. biggrin.gif

i, also, live in the wods which will be good if it makes any difference what your background is.

P.S. YAY first post
nargus
Wow. I so wanna join! but I do not have a custume...nor ability to do that tongue.gif kvright.gif

I sooo wanna see monster costumes and especially the Argonians! biggrin.gif
Flea110
It says that I could be a person or monster from Tamriel. Then in the rules it says that "the theme must be related to oblivion". Does this mean that I can't be someone from Morrowind? sad.gif

It all has to be real, no one's allowed to photoshop in an armory of Daedric armor and blades and all such happy.gif

But how about the background? How important is it?
Igiss
Great idea! Should be interesting to see the photos... they will be published in this thread, right?

I'll post the news at Cyrodiil Chronicles as soon as I get home.

Jokkocze
True. Im heading over to my brothers little basement smithy tomorrow to make my smashed up harness wearable again (I hate traveling to and from LRP). Maybe I'll make something obliviony aswell.

Flea110
Sweet. Even if my idea doesn't work out, it should be a lot of fun.

This contest outta be good.
Jokkocze
Yeah. What piece of equipment would look good on a pic? Got a full armour and a broadsword.
stargelman
The first entries can now be seen here.
Jokkocze
George as a hobbit..? What connection is there between J.R.Tolikens hobbits, and bethesdas Elder Scrolls?
Curly_G_
I dunno... but it's funny... He actually looks small in that picture. Strange.
Jokkocze
Maybe he's tiny?

This sounds like a fun thing to do, even though I don't stand a chance. Let's see how far I can get with a zero budget. Time to clean up my little crossbow that's gathering dust. smile.gif
Icubod
hey everyone, just wondering, can we photoshop the enviroment to create a cool atmosphere?

Nope sorry. The photo has to be 100% authentic. According to the rules, the only alterations allowed are for brightness, contrast and levels. And of course stuff like resizing / cropping
davidtabor4
Dose the envinment count for points

There are some really good entries here. Thero and Crunchy look simply amazing. Miltiades is also very good, too bad he isn't really competing.
Jokkocze
Still dont like that the hobbit is a valid contestant. Hobbits've got nothing to do with TES
davidtabor4
The Horse looks a little photoshoped
Jokkocze
uhm.. thought you had to see bits of the face at least. So you can determine if the pictures real

Hi... I just wanted to ask some question regarding my costume. I have made a full cuirass and set of pauldrons made from chitin crab shell. I was wondering if this would be suitable for the contest. I know that there was some discussion over if elements from Morrowind could be used, so I wanted to clarify if my chitin armor would be alright.

Also, would weapons from asian cultures that did not appear in Morrowind(ie, a Naginata or Yari spear) be allowed.

I also wanted to ask what the importance of the environment has on the idea of a costume competition. If its based on the costume, I'm not seeing why the background is a very important element.

Thanks for answering my questions,

Neix

I think that's ok. I'm no judge but I doubt using chitin armor that doesn't look exactly the same as in MW would disqualify you smile.gif

As for the scene: I'd say it's not the single most important aspect, but a good setting surely helps to convince the judges smile.gif An outdoors scene with no signs of civilization is always better than the middle of your living room biggrin.gif
minque
Ok....a lot of awesome male species......but now I think it would be nice with some female touch.....so I´m preparing something..although my entry will be invalid, I´ll submit it anyway!....

You look at shadows wind and back ground.if you look at the people none of them look that way and the wind does not mach.
Neix
that didn't really make sense.

but I do see why not seeing their faces would make it hard to determine if it is real.

What are you talking about? That picture is sure for real, noone can cut and paste a background that perfectly.. Besides I suppose he is not the only attraction at that event, the people in the backround are oviously looking at something else, cooler than him for the moment.

Go Minque! Good with some female entries, I wouldn't want to live in Tamriel if there were no females!

Alright, I second the complain about the hobbit, the contest is about TES right, now how could a hobbit make their way to Tamriel? Please Alex or stargelman, explain smile.gif.

Neix: I so look forward to see your entry! A crab-armour! It must have taken ages to make it..!

I'm starting to think I have no chance in the contest sad.gif.. Need to think of somethin cool, original and tamrielic.. hmmm.. *goes away to figure something cunning out*
davidtabor4
I can cut and paste that good. Their is a black outline around the horse and the knight

I believe you are talking about "Crunchy"? If so then you must be joking.. Have you tried looking at the picture full-size? Check his cloth over the sadle of the horse.. Or check the foot in the ehm "foot-holder" (tongue.gif)... Or check his hand holding the leather straps leaning on the horsemane... If that picture is NOT uthentic, then we have found the master of falsification.. Of all times... Ever...

Sorry to be this harsh, but I really don't see the falsification in that picture..
Red
Well, since this looks really interesting and fun, I shall enter. Though I think its a little unfair to win on things you bought or pictures you took at a medieval fair instead of specifically for this. Anyways, expect three pictures, all mind blowing. tongue.gif
Jokkocze
To say that its you on a pic is just like saying something like this:

Here I am, in my david hasselhoff costume
Look!
davidtabor4
No im not joking. the photo is a good shot but it is photoshoped. i have won 3 photoshop contest i sould know

QUOTE

yeah, it is made from horseshoe crabs that i collected, cleaned, and then put together with leather. I also have painted the majority of the armor using runes that i devised. I will probably have enough time to go out to a state park nearby after i get back from break.....

thanks for the enthusiasm!
