Maybe I just don't have my facts straight but don't most games need to "go gold", master copy gets sent to the press and copies of the game gets stamped in an assembly line, about a month before the release date. What Im getting at is that if oblivion is suppose to be on the shelves by march 21, like everybody is thinking its going to be, shouldn't of bethesda already have announced that its gone gold by now, or for hell sakes a release date? There web page still says "early 2006". I don't want to say this but I am almost expecting a delay at this point.
Any thoughts?

They're in the 99th percentile of completion apparently...
Games Magazines have seen any stable build the devs have thrown together in past few months, but still not gold does slightly concern me... but it's also good, as they are gauging production on the pre-orders, so all pre-orders will be met immediately, as mass development could not have started without it going Gold... Right?

I believe they are trying to fix errors and correct that annoying fault that makes the game crash randomly.

so by the looks of it if oblivion doesn't go gold this week we are probably looking at a delay

Not necessarily.. the time between going gold and actual release can vary quite a bit. Since both Bethesda and Take 2 are publishing this, they can stamp out copies pretty quickly. I am guessing it would only take a couple weeks max and thats assuming that they even tell us that it goes gold the day they send off the master copy.

I think they already have Instruction Manuals and Maps, et.c already printed out and waiting for the thousands of CDs to be burnt and labelled... That would save time...

Wow... urm... You guys need to pay attention to the interviews, they already said they would announce the release date in the coming weeks (So in a week or two we will have it), and that they already know the date they have in mind.

I've read that the game reached Gold Status in December and that this Status hasn't been changed.

Early 2006 is all you should believe
Edit: Update: March 20th (Europe: add a few days) is now all you should believe.
