Full Version: New Video Interview With Pete Hines
Chorrol.com > Elder Scrolls Games > Oblivion
Intestinal Chaos
I have gone through the video interview with Pete Hines and it holds a wealth of information. It's an hour long, but I suggest watching it.
I also added an "(already stated)" tag to bits of common information.

Pete might have accidently let slip on the release date on a certain quote about wether or not the unicorn is rideable.

QUOTE
"It'll be so much more exciting when you figure it out for yourself. C'mon Ryan, there's gotta be something you figure out in the game and go 'Hey, cool, look what I can do' not 'Hey look, it works exactly like what Pete said it would a month *pause* or two ago'"

Hmmmn, this might not be it, but it's worth some explanation.

*No portable bed rolls.

*You can hire "decoratores" for your home. Wether this means depending decorator is how your house will look, or having specific items you can move around is unclear.

*Necromancy is a touchy subject, as it is intertwined with the Mage's Guild storyline.

* A mention of "queslines " for guilds. Wether he meant the guild itself as a questline, questlines being specific to only certain guilds, or a series of different paths to go down inside certain guild is unclear. It is speculate that the Dark Brotherhood and Arena will not have questlines.

*You can paralyze any living thing.

*Objects float or sing in water (depending on physical qualities) accompanied by a splash or ripple affect.

*More official mods questions (Personally I think this subject is overblow, like the quest compass was).

*Every city has it's own architcure (previously stated)

*Plent og easter eggs.

*(The details on this one are a bit sketchy) Characters will act and react accordingly to skill and stat level and not weapon. Though Pete doesn't seem to know what he's talking about on this one (he's admitted it himself).

*45-50 minutes of music.

*Collector's addition does not include a soundtrack.

*9000 different kinds of items.

*Telekenesis is limited to lifting objects (sorry folks, no guard tossin')

*Dead bodies can be moved by Telekenesis, and is apparently a probable thief aid (but it has a range and duration as usual).

*When you grab an item with telekenesis you actually physically move it around the game world, unlike in Morrowind where it was immediatly put into inventory.

*Pete is "pretty sure" that when you levitate an item, when you bring it close enough you can put it into inventory without dropping it.

*You do not hear weather affects of of the outside while inside.

*Multiple types of rain, snow, fog, mist etc.

*Dual layer system for sky.

*Dynamic weather change.

*There are graveyards, they may or may not include monsters.

*The game takes advantage of SLA setup.

*You will not be able to grow your own alchemy ingrediants, but there is some sort of guild perk that his to do with Alchemy in the Mage's Guild.

*Arrows interact with each other when they collide, even when stuck into other surfaces.

*When you fight in the arena there is a visible crowd that cheers and reacts to your actions and the actions of your opponent.

*You may watch fights that you bet on, and even move and interact with other NPC's while the battle takes place.

*When you lose in an arena fight you die.

*You can't poison food yourself, though there is food that is poisoned.

*When you poison arrows it's the first shot that's poisoned, after thay the poison wears off.

*Boats are static and do not move with water.

*Different apparati that you use affect the potions effectiveness, not your alchemy skill.

*The apparati are bound to your skill level. For example: you can't use a journymen's calcinator at novice level, and such.

*Alchemy affects your ability to see how many affects an ingredient has (as in Morrowind).

*Alchemy affects how many potions you can have in affect at once (already stated)

*NPC's are not significantly altered by food and do not get "drunk". Though there are NPC's with substance problems that worsen over time.

*When you disarm an opponent their weapon physically drops onto the ground.

*You cannot loot uncouncious unkillable NPC's like a corpse, but you can pickpocket them as you would a live one.

*Pete is not certain wether there is a slowfall spell or not (but it seems most likely not).

*You are able to disable blood in the option menu.

*There are no gauntlets with attack properties or "cast on hit" spells.

*There are no "hand to hand weapons".

*Armor type will affect you stealth (already stated).

*Armor heaviness affects spell affectiveness (already stated)..

*As you get better at armor skills the spell effectiveness and stealth penalties slowly go away (already stated).

*Water is reflective, but you do not see your own reflection.

*"Jump-Running" is not nearly as effective as in Morrowind, and drains fatigue, unlike run.

*There are no windows to exterior cells.

*You many not recruit random NPC's to guilds, but there are quests in which you recruit specific NPC's (but this is a scripted thing).

*There are no horse upgrades, though there will be a horse armor plugin (previously stated).

*There is one unicorn in the game, there is speculation to wether it is mountable and rideable (I for one think it is after some sort of quest or such).

*If and your horse are attacked, and your horse flees, then it will return to the stable of the nearest town (provided you bought the horse).

*Pete won't say wether or not your face will appear on wanted posters when you occur a high bounty, but he didn't deny it either. It very well might be he would have said no if that wasn't the case. We'll just have to wait and see ;].

*You can't spring traps with magic, only telekenesis weld items.

*You can become the head of every guild (no join this guild then you can't join this one business).

*Gates to oblivion will open in random areas for as long as it takes you to get to finishing the main quest (provided you ever do).

Pete doesn't look like he wants to be there... Lol!
But very insightful...

Can't believe I didn't see this earlier. Is this a port of the Podcast?

I agree, Pete looks like he is the nemisis of the interviewer, but I do like his down to earth, quick answers that are hogwash free. He tells you what you'll get, unlike the guys at Bungie.

wow, I was really excited about this and Pete looks like one of my instructors at college, but for some reason his voice has this mystical quality to it that puts you to sleep...twice while I was watching it......I am going to refer my insomniac friends to this link...so they, and I, thank you very much for posting up this bit of gem of research on the web.
