I've always loved Melee thrashing and out-smarting Mages in combat... so doing it for Fame and Fortune... why not?

As a consolre owner, I thouroughly enjoyed Shadow of Rome despite its historic and gameplay vapidity. For reference, that game tried to capture the Colloseum flavor, and all in all it was really cathartic. After playing that game, and seeing a snippet of arena gameplay, I'm positive I'll spend ridiculous amounts of time in the Arena. It sounds as if they really nailed the roar of the crowd (which is the most important thing to differentiate it from normal combat) and the roman-esque ampitheater pit.

I will probably first dabble in betting and spectating, I like to play elder scrolls games with no real goal.
I just pretend I am a bloke who has just entered a new world and begins exploring.
Probably will join though cause it sounds cool.
The only other game that done an arena well was Fable. Lets hope Oblivion does it better!

The arena is going to be so alsome... i wonder if you can bet on your self.

I do the same, as in just pretend to be an average peasant, and do the Main Quest and Guilds AFTER exploring a large chunk of the land and amassing some gold and getting to about level 15 - 20.
And, yeah. I enjoyed Fable's Arena too, but the outcomes were limited. This is going to be random combatants, with random equipment and there's a LOT more
outside the Arena than Fable had to offer.
It's gonna be great.

I will bet but I won't fight in it with my starting character. I will later because I do EVERYTHING but its not on my must do list.

I wonder how long after the game is released the first gamer will post that he/she has become master of the Arena.
It will be interesting whether you can start straight away in the arena as lvl 1 or will you have to gain some level of skill before being admitted. It would be a great training ground to build up fighting skills before you venture out to the demon/monster infested wilds.

My Main Quest character will have nothing to do with the arena, because as a Paladin, he finds it repulsive and barbaric.
I will later create a Nord fighter to become arena champion.

I intend my first character to be a pure mage, so I'm not sure whether he'll be interested in the Arena. I'll wait and see how good the defensive magic spells are before I make a decision. But, perhaps he may want to avoid it all together, as I think I want him to be a super-good honorable type who only kills by necessity, and certainly not for sport.

Why would you not go to the arena? Its like the coolest thing ever. And if its anything like fable it should be awesome! And if you watched the video, when he is in the arena he has a staff that shoots stuff. It looks freakin sweet =)

I will definitely be joining the arena. With many other games that include little mini arena things (KOTOR, Mount&Blade) they were still fun and addicting, even though there wasn't any storyline there. This time the arena will have a story involved, and you can suppose the depth of the story just from hearing about the story involed in the thieve's guild or dark brotherhood. I wouldn't be surprised if there were rivalries involved, attempts to rigg the results, everything you'd expect from a movie that's centered around an arena.

Man Xander (My Character for Oblivion) is suiting up as we speak! I can't wait to hop into the arena pit and start throwing it down with anyone who wants a piece. I just hope they make it worthwhile with cheering crowds and such.
Is it the 20th yet?

I will certainly be taking part in the arena as i always love owning mages with melee, also the video snippet of it proved entertaining

I'd join. I love the idea of making this old looking character and then bashing down all those youngsters in front of a crowd. They don't make fighters like they used to.

first off id like to say that this is my first topic to ever get two pages

hooray for me. But more on topic I wonder if there will be like animals that come out of the ground. You know how like lions came out from cages underground in gladius. Like maybe nix-hounds or dreaded cliff racers

I will of course play in arena because I will do everything but my first characters will only spectate, arena is for a later character.

Mar 4 2006, 06:34 AM
You might as well try to experience everything possible with your first character instead of trying to separate it out like that otherwise you're looking at a goof 1500 hours of playing.

I'd be willing to bet that there's an invisible 'globe' around the arena fighting grounds that prevents external objects (spells, rocks, arrows, or crazy people that lost a lot of money on a bet due to the death of an arena participant that they were betting on, etc.) from entering

.Yeah, one of the interviews mentions there will be no external disturbances while fighting in the pit.

One per City or just Imperial City? Or somewhere else?
I wanna find it within the first 8 hours of gaming.

I will probably watch some fights and wager a wee bit. I will also figure out how my future rivals fight and develop strategy. Then i will hone my combat skills on some trolls and level up a wee bit. then i will crush all of my opponents in the collesium.

As one of my first two characters will be an altmer, with heavy armor, blunt, and block, and will almost certainly be amoral, it will be the first guild I will join. It will be interesting to see how an altmer will fare against orcs/redguards/nords. Hopefully bloody, and certainly great fun.

My character, though he will be of a good disposition, doesn't see any moral difference between dungeon spelunking and the arena. After all, in both cases people are essentualy betting their lives against gold anyways. Whether or not he will participate will depend on how durable he proves to be during gameplay.
By the way, after skimming through the guides Arena section, I can say that it should be a blast. And there is only one Arena.

I have to say I love the Arena.
Currently im at the Wood Elf Twins and moving up at a slow pace while I try to complete all the Dark Brotherhood quests.
So yea, master it eventually.
Dances With Pandas
Mar 22 2006, 07:00 AM
Are Pandas allowed in the arena?
If so I'm going to nail it.... I always thought Morrowing could have expanded on its arena and now Oblivion has just the thing.
Make a bit of money gambelling, raise a few skills, all in the comfort of one area.
What more could you ask for?

Mar 23 2006, 07:17 PM
I am using the skull of corruption in the arena (It Creates a clone of the person for 30 Seconds) I just sit back and cast it over and over. The Clone can do some serious damage especially if you let the guy/girl attack you and the clone beats him/her from behind.

Definatly going to join the arena since I am a big fan of martial arts tournaments. But of course after I have leveled up to say lvl 20 or 25, as I really really hate losing

.
The arena might be a great way to setting up multiplayer battles online... just an idea.
Hukai The Wandering
Mar 25 2006, 12:49 AM

I cant play the game much since my 360 is broken, but since I plan on playing this game to it's fullest I'll definately make a character and join the Arena eventually. I didnt know you can watch other fights and bet, I'll probably look into that too and see how exciting it actually is

i liked the arena a lot and it was a funny way of leveling up. I started there with about lvl 5 and went out with lvl 10, whereas the grand-champion fight was easy because of a quest.
What i find a bit disappointing is that you can't fight (at least i don't know how) any more humanoid combatants after you're grand champion, only animals.
