Silence
Chapter 2

The sun stood low at the sky. Rio’th took a deep breath of the fresh moring air which was caused by the cold of the night. He knew that it would disapear when the sun stood a little bit higher at the sky. The small ice-cristalls from the cold shined in the pink light of the rizing sun. They vaporized within minuts and made place for little drops on the yellow stones of the palace.
His room had a rectangular shape with small recesses in each corner. The bed was in the center of the room which was allmost the same height as his floor. The walls were decorated with golden illustrations which reached to the ceiling which was covered with white curtains which were carefully hanging down. In the center of the room, above his bed, was a large chandelier which looked like a giant bubble from the deep blue sea of his country. Smaller lamps were located arround the chandelier which added light through the rest of the room. Only the back wall of the room had windows which reached from the floor to the ceiling. Windows without glass but decorated with woodcarvings.
Rio’th turned around and walked from the balcony back in his room for a quick wash. He took a traditional robe from his closed. The white robe reached his knees and was made out of various bands which were on top of eachother. Underneath the robe he wore his boods, the tradition was to wear smaller shoes underneath the robe but Rio’th always liked to wear boots because he thought they were more comfortable.

Rio’th was on his way through the hallways to the temple of the palace. He was summoned by the leaders of the Illunarim for a meeting, something which didn’t happen very often. The hallway was open on his left hand, through the arches he could see the city, Iilunairim. It was the capitol of his homeland, named after the Illunarim which was translated as guardians of the light in common language. Rio’th could see that the sun still didn’t passed the tower of Saiilina, he knew that it was still early in the morning. He took the staircase on his left to the gardens of the palace. Small groups of the Illunarim were already training on the large fields of grass in the gardens. The temple was located at the end of the gardens, he could already see the golden dome shining in the light of the upcoming sun.

Some members already sat around the table when Rio’th reached the temple. He sat down on a pillow next to a large Chiniir. The half cat half human race looked at Rio’th with his yellow eyes which seemed to glow in the dark, allmost windowless, room and greeted him with a small nod.
The doors of the room closed when Nahiiera entered the room. Nahiiera was the oldest member of the Illunarim. His face was slightly covered with wrinkles and looked like it had seen to much battles. A scar went from his forehead to his cheek which he probably got from the many battles he fought. His long braids were hanging down over his shoulders. Nahiiera was in charge of the Illunarim, together with five other members. He was the first member who established the Illunarim long ago during times of war.
Nahiiera sat down on the other side of the table from were Rio’th was sitting. He looked at the other members of the Illunarim who were patientely waiting for him to start the meeting.
Rio’th thought it looked as if Nahiiera hesitated to start his story.

”Welcome members of the Illunarim, I have summoned you for a secret meeting. First I would like to start with an important message” said Nahiiera.
”As you know you are the only members who know of this meeting. When you leave the temple you have never been here. This meeting has never took place”.

Rio’th was still confused of what happened to him last night but tried to consentrate on Nahiiera who looked at him and who seemed to frown at Rio’th for a second. Never before they asked them to keep a secret.
”Today, exactely one hundred years ago our continent was one big island. As you all know a war caused the island to break in several islands. Unfortunately our country has never been fully separated with the country of the evil tribes from the east who started the war. To protect ourselves we build a wall on the eastern borders of our country to protect our country. For years we haven’t had any reports of activity from the country, it was declaired as a dead. A land with an extincted civilization but nothing is what it seems. The creatures who once lived there seemed to abandoned their cities and went into the ground.”
Nahiiera stopped again looked at Rio’th. Zjiin, one of the female leaders of the Illunarim continued his story.
”According tot he last reports from the wall there are creatures appearing in the dark. They appear at the surface, we don’t know what they are up to but that’s why we have to be carefull. The first reporst came in a few months ago, the guards reported moving shadows between the sharp rocks of the country. First they were reported as sandghosts who crossed the borders but the last few weeks the reports show that guards have been disapearing from the wall. Fifteen guards vanished from the wall, taken into the dark shadows of the east.”
Rio’th noticed that many of the members were wispering at eachother, he could hear the next to him Chiniir growling.
”Times have changed” he said to Rio’th.
Zjiin waited untill the group calmed down and continued her story.
”A small group of three members will go with Nahiiera to investigate the disapearance of the guards on the wall.”
Zjiin named three members of the Illunarim, Rio’th was not one of them.
”You will leave within two days with Nahiiera to the wall in the east of our country” For the last time she pointed out that this was a secret meeting, the Illunarim didn’t wanted to cause fear among their people but wanted to investigate the wall first.

Rio’th left the temple and walked down the stairs into the gardens but he was stopped by Nahiiera.
”You look tired” he said to Rio’th.
”I’ve had a rough night” Rio’th replied.
Nahiiera frowned as if he knew what went on in Rio’th’s head last night. As if he knew what Rio’th was dreaming.
”Ariisiss wants to see you tonight. I don’t know why, he didn’t told me”
Rio’th knew that it didn’t happened very often that their leader invited a member of the Illunarim. He nodded “I’ll be there” he said to Nahiiera.

That night Rio’th left his room after a nice dinner to the throneroom. It was located in the center of the palace. On his way he noticed that there weren’t any human guards in the hall to the throneroom. The hall to the throneroom was guarded by the sandguards, halfgods who were made by their first leader Veriinum. The halfgods were located inside the male statues which stood along the wall. The female sandguards were located at the ceiling of the hall, portrayed as giant birds. It was as if the birds were actually flying across the ceiling. Two large Chiniir stood in front of the gate to the throneroom in their traditional golden armor. The Chiniir didn’t said anything but slowly opened the doors to the throneroom.
The light of the moon shined through the huge glass dome of the throneroom which reached the floor on one side. The same chandeliers as in Rio’th’s room, only this time decorated with gold and chains, were hanging in a circkle througout the throneroom. In the center of the room was Ariisiss, sitting on a throne which had the shape of a large statue of Veriinum.
Ariisiss was dressed in a black robe, it seemed as if the robe was moving to the right as if he was standing in a sandstorm. He wore a golden, faceless mask which was covered by a hood. His arms were covered with an golden colored armor arround his neck there was a golden cap which made it difficult to see wether Ariisiss was a Dahrjiin or Chiniir. This wasn’t the first time Rio’th saw Ariisis but he still wasn’t sure about the man behind the mask. Rio’th wasn’t even sure if there was a man and not a woman behind the mask.
Seven sandguards were sitting around Ariisiss. He felt that they were watching him and already reading his mind.
”Welcome Rio’th” said Ariisiss with a slow voice.
”As you know strange things are happening in the east which can change our future”
Rio’th tried to consentrate on the dark voice of Ariisiss but he was distracted from voices down the hall.
”I have summoned you here to...” Ariisiss quickly stopped.
The voices down the hall made place for a screaming sound and loud growling of the Chiniir. Rio’th noticed that the sandguards began to wisper with eachother in a strange language, it sounded much like the common language which was used by the Illunarim but it was different. The only words he heared were “he is comming”.
Ariisiss stood up from his throne and moved his hand to the side. The doors of the throneroom opened.
A soldier who’s face was covered with blood was being dragged into the throneroom by the Chiniir. He was in panic, Rio’th could see that he came a long way. “THE DARKNESS IS COMMING! THEY ARE DEAD! ALL OF THEM!!”
