Chapter Ten: The peoples of Akavir
(Kai)
We have now arrived in the presence of the emperor Uriel VII. He is about to tell us why we were summoned to his chambers. Its about time…
“You have finally made it” A tall figure in the corner said. His face was covered by a cloak. Though at the time I thought he was a gold Elf, because of his golden colored hands.
“Yes, We’re here. Now could we get some answers?” I impatiently said.
“And I assume You found the Akaraishen.” The Emperor said to Locke.
“I have.” Locke said, holding out a pendent with a symbol of a dragon on it.
“So, what do we have to do with it? I know it has something to do with that thing.” I asked, leaning against a pillar.
“Perhaps the briefing room would be a better place to talk about this.” The tall figure said.
“Wait! Tell me what the artifact is for first.” I demanded.
“Please don’t yell at him. He seems important.” Isabel whispered, standing next to me.
“Alright. The object Locke recovered is an ancient artifact of Ka Po’ Tun. An empire in Akavir.” The Tall figure replied.
“AKAVIR!?” I shouted, remembering about what that Sload told me.
“Akavir is a continent to the east of Tamriel.” A man in leather armor replied, while smoking a pipe from across the room.
“I know that. I just wondered how the artifact ended up here in Tamriel.” I said.
“We are not sure how Darroll got his hands on it, but we suspect it has something to do with the most recent war in Akavir, Emperor Uriel V’s conquest. However he died in the battle of Ionith. The Artifact was guarded by the dragons in ancient times. But however, the dragons of Akavir were destroyed in a war between the Snake people of Tsaesci and Ko Tun. After which, the Cat people have guarded the artifact. How ever, if Darroll did steel it in Uriel V’s conquest in 3E 288, then he would of held it for 116 years now. So, the Ka Po’ Tun would’ve invaded long ago.” The tall figure informed.
“What makes this artifact so important?” Isabel asked.
“It is rumored to have the power to disrupt time. Thus causing an unpredictable result afterwards.” The man in leather armor replied, still sitting on the far end of the room, looking out the window.
“Oh, I see.” Isabel said, though she was still a little confused.
“And why do we have to return it? It could easily be protected within the walls of Cyrodiil, right?” I pointed out.
“As I said, the artifact is a very important relic to the people of Ka Po’ Tun. They know the powers it holds. And say one of there Soothsayers locates it here. Either by a vision, or astro projection. Then Tamriel would risk open war.” the tall, hooded figure explained.
“So, what do we do? When do we leave? And how do we get there?” Isabel asked frantically.
“Calm down for a second, first we have to train you and prepare you all. That includes the Kahjiit too. You wont make it far in Akavir if you don’t know their language.” The hooded man answered.
“So who are you?” I asked, facing him.
“My name is Varsidue-Harvaku”
He Walked over toward us with out making a noise. Then as I looked at where his feet should be, I realized he stood on a tail, not legs. He stopped in front of me and pulled off his hood. His head was a snake head.
“I am the brother of Varsidue-Shaie. He once ruled this empire after the Reman Dynasty.” Harvaku said.
Isabel gasped with excitement.
“I read about that in the library at Daggerfall! He was assassinated by the dark brotherhood… Sorry, I just couldn’t believe that I just met an important figure in history.” Isabel said.
“I am not bothered by it anymore. It was a long time ago.”
“We could talk about all that later. Right now its important that we explain to these kids exactly what they will be going against.” The man in the corner said, putting his pipe out, he walked over to us.
“Why are you sending us, when you could just send a group of highly trained agents into there?” I asked, walking away from the pillar. I sat down on the stone floor.
“That is the plan. And you will be going along with them as highly trained agents.” He said, looking into my eye.
“Why us? I’m only 17, and I barley know anything about traveling. So why does it have to be us?” Isabel asked.
“This empire is run on secrets. And it won’t make any difference if we tell you that or not.”
The emperor looked at him. “Cyrus. Its okay.”
He walked up to Isabel and looked at her.
“Long ago, several priests of Akatosh gathered together and prayed for a month straight. When they had finished, they spent the next few years inscribing what they had seen, and hat the stars say will happen. This was Akatosh’s message to us, the mortals, of what is to happen. And we must enforce these prophecies to ensure that Time will go on its set path. Your chapter is just one of many chapters. However, like the next few chapters, your story has more than one ending.” The emperor explained with a gentle voice.
The chamber doors opened as Dorrog walked in walked into the room with An’Jirr.
“There’s no need to explain the quest to him, I already did.” Dorrog said in his jolly voice.
An’Jirr waved shyly. “Um… Hey guys.”
“Well now that everyone is here, we should get everyone to the briefing room.” Locke said. For a while I completely forgot he was in a room.
“Yes, your right. There would be a much better place to discuss this, as there are maps. Follow me.” Harvaku said. He slithered down the hallway with his robe hood up as we followed through the complexed hallway. Until we came up to a room in a hallway near the garrison of the palace.
As we (Me, Isabel, Kane, and An’Jirr) entered and sat down, Harvaku lit a few candles to brighten up the room. He hung a large map on the wall we were facing. It was a map of Akavir.
“Allow me to educate you about the continent of Akavir.” Harvaku said.
“Akavir is made up into seven nations. Possibly more, but there’s only seven countries big enough to be considered nations. The four main ones would be Ka Po’ Tun, Kamal, Tang Mo, and Tsaesci. Each of these nations are known for there constant war that has been fought since long before mortals came to Nirm. The first country I should tell you about should be Ka Po’ Tun. It is after all the largest, and the main one you will be questing through.” Harvaku pointed at the north east part of the map.
“This empire was built on an ancient dragon empire called Ko Tun. Though as you know, the dragons where defeated in a war by the Tsaesci. So the Cat people known as the Ka Po Shun took over the empire. They evolved dragon senses and became what we know as today as Ka Po’ Tun. Though there is only one of them that actually became a true dragon. And now he is the largest dragon in all of Nirm. His name is Tosh Raka. He is the current emperor of Ka Po’ Tun, and plans on wiping my race to extinction. The people of Ka Po’ Tun are renowned for their skills with bladed weapons.” He explained.
This was all pretty interesting to Isabel, as she seemed very intent on listening. Though An’ Jirr seamed to be drifting asleep, and Kane couldn’t care less. Still, I continued listening, as I would probably miss something important.
Harvaku pointed at the map again to a country just below Ka Po’ Tun. “This is Kamal. The Kamal are the only known civilization of demons in the mortal plane.”
An’Jirr looked up in confusion.
“What’s a demon? Is that like a Daedra or something?” He asked, still looking sleepy.
“Well, they are similar to Daedra, but they aren’t as unified, and they aren’t nearly as unified. The very essence of a Demon’s soul is a powerful hunger. What deeds this hunger depends on the demon. For most weaker demons, they feed on fear, and other negative emotions. But whatever they hunger for, it defines their existence. So the fact that Kamal is a unified nation remains a mystery to us even till this day.” Harvaku explained.
“Oh… I see.” An’Jirr said, a little concerned look on his face. I couldn’t help but laugh a little at that.
“Tang Mo.” He continued, pointing at a large group of islands located with Tsaesci above them, and Kamal to the east. “The monkey peoples of Tang Mo come in many different breeds. This Empire is divided into many clans, spread out through out these islands, and also hold a chunk of the mainland. The Tang Mo are mostly known for their bravery. However, They don’t exactly think like us, and are by our standards, insane. They have always been the most peaceful and at the same time, most aggressive of the four warring nations. This will be the country you will arrive in first. And they will help you along the way, giving you a guide to guide you through Akavir. And finally, I would like to talk about the Tsaesci.”
He pointed at the north west corner of the map.
“This is where I came from. We carry the gift of Immortality, much like the High elves. But we also carry the curse of Vampirism. And although our scales and blood are immune to sunlight, we carry most of the weaknesses that other vampires hold.”
“So your undead?” Isabel asked.
“Not necessarily. Undead isn’t really a good word for it. I like to think of it as more of a curse.” Harvaku said, rolling up the map.
As An’Jirr yawned, I started thinking. So I asked “Is all this information recent, or is it from you lived in Tsaesci?”
“Tamreil and Tang Mo have a trade agreement with each other. Along with there goods, they also exchange knowledge.” Harvaku explained, putting the map back.
“Um… Can you tell us about the smaller nations of Akavir?” Isabel asked with curiosity in her voice.
“Well, what do you need to know about them? There is the Wolf People, the Earth Elves, and the plants of Kuriko.”
“Plants?” An’Jirr asked, now paying attention.
Harvaku pulled out the map again and unrolled it on the table in front of us. He pointed at the center of the map and started to explain.
“The plants of Kuriko call themselves Dranites. The Dranites are a species of plant that feed upon the magic soil of Kuriko. They don’t have as complexed emotions as we do. If there is sunlight, they are happy. When it snows, they get restless. Not much is known about them, except if they walk away from the forests of Kuriko, they will wither and die. The Ka Po’ Tun and Tang Mo idolize these plants, and defend their borders against the Kamal. Lets take a break for today. I’m beginning to get hungry." Harvaku said, slithering towards the door.
