Prolouge
Sel wasn't a blood-related Ashlander, he was adopted into the tribes as a friend of Ashlanders, so he always had a place to call home if the city rejected him. Sel was usually the one to go in to the major cities and pick up supplies for the Ashlander tribes, medicinal herbs and the like for the adventurers that came back from hunting with injuries and such.
He is about 20 minutes away from the town of Balmora, but he will soon find things aren't as they should be.
Chapter One
Sel noticed the Stilt Strider was gone. He figured it was just taking someone to another city, seens how the Strider Operater wasn't there either. He shurgged and walked through the gates into Balmora, and noticed that it was eerly desolate for the time of night. The sun had just gone down, wich was normal, but there should at least be a few guards patrolling the streets.
Sel thought there might be a town meeting, so he decided to hit the local Mage Guild to pick up some healing supplies from the guild stewards. The downstairs door was locked, same with the upstairs door. The guilds never locked their doors, so thoughts started running through Sels' mind that there was a raid by the barbaric Orcs again. They have grown in numbers in the past few months and, from his experiance, they didn't like Dunmer.
Sel knocked on the door, but no answer. He heard sounds of footsteps from the alley-way next to the Mages Guild, and decided to go ask the person over there what was going on in the town. It was odd, but hopefully he could get some answers about what was going on or where everyone was.
Sel reached the corner and looked down but saw noone. Fear instantly shot through his body, and caused him to approach the end of the building with a cautious mind. The smell of rotting flesh started ingulfing his senses, almost making him heave all over the supply boxes behind the guild. He gathered his thoughts and feelings, lit a tourch and turned around, only to bare witness to some horrafing scenes!
There was a loud commotion from the courtyard area where he entered town, and saw three guards surrounding a family, facing the other direction as if to protect the family. Protect them from what though? Sel thought he should investigate what was going on and maybe lend a helping hand.
Before Sel could take a step, the smell of rotting flesh came in abundance at him once again, but this time from the courtyard. Living amongst the Ashlanders Sel had learned to train his nose to certain smells, and differenciate between a hostle smell and a friendly scent, and this was most definately was not friendly. The guards drew their swords and prepaired for an attack.
What were they waiting for? Sel thought to himself, then saw what caused them to stand still. It was the whole town of Balmora slowly walking towards them! All were decayed and appeared to have been eaten. Innerds hung out of their bellies and their faces were missing patches of flesh. Moans echoed through the streets, getting louder and louder as more and more came into view. Sels' hands trembled as he witnessed the guards futile attempts to protect the family from these undead-freaks! The guards screamed in sequence with the family, then with one big cruntch, the last remaining few stopped screaming.
Sel didn't know what was going on, all he knew was that Balmora wasn't safe. Maybe if he got to Vivec he could alert them to the problem. Although Balmora was a Imperial City, it was within walking distance to Vivec and he knew the Ordiantators wouldn't want these things in their town. Some of the monsters turned and looked at Sel, and came after him.
"To hell with this!" Sel said to himself and turned to run towards the Odai River that flowed through Balmora, but was cut off by another group of those monstrosities. He was trapped! The cross-end of the alleyway was closed off for repairs on the back sides of the buildings that were starting to form mold and eat through the concrete. Sel had no weapons or anything to defend himself with, and with no where to go, he thought he was doomed...
