Anybody else seen the E3 demo? It literally made me cry.

Just as a little note here, discussing the contents of the video is fine, providing links or information about where to find it is not. So don't give any links to material from the video and this thread won't have to get closed.

No, haven't seen it...but, what things in the demo that made you cry? kvleft.gif Is that a bad thing or a good thing?

I heard that the demo/DVD-thing was good, but it was months old or something like that.

If that's the case, the devs probably have fixed/tweaked some of the problems the people on the ElderScroll forums were complaining about. Though some of the problems I've heard about did not sound too bad to bad to me.
Alexander
I think he meant cry in a good way, I know I had to wipe away a few tears after having seen it at the E3 happy.gif
Infiltrator
Tell us whats it about? Are there any argonians at last? Combat elements?
Konji
It was 20 minutes of pure gameplay.....it was so beautiful.
Infiltrator
oh my god.. that's as close as it gets to feel the game (since there is no demo)... /drool

So.... I'll describe the dungeon scene. You could see around this dark dungeon, and they looked at the walls. They were perfectly bump mapped or whatever it is so when you were moving they seemed perfectly lke jutty walls. Then the cursor was aimed at the clasps and it turned into a small hand. Presumebly when said hand was dragged, the clasps followed where the hand had gone then fell down again when let go, accompaniedby a perfect soft shadow.

The character then turned around and clciked on some of the bones. He could fling them around at will, and the shadow from a ribcage had light shining between the holes. He then drew a cool looking sword....obviously you won't have this. He then walked up to the cell door upon hearing a woman's voice, and two guards accompanied by the emperor came to the door. They argued at the fact you were in there then told you to stand next to the window so you did. They said they would kill you otherwise, but...

They then walked in, and an alcove to the right turned magically into a tunnel for them to go into.

Fade out and drooling.

The demo made me very dissapointed. I deid not like how the animation of the dog standing and then sitting seemed to happened in a second, how the golden knight skated backwards when you hit him like he was on ice or how the horses did aq 180 like they were on a turn style.

Other than that I thought it was great.

so there seems to be a high diversity in peoples opinions abotu that movie. im still dling it, i hope i can watch it tonight, so i can give my 2 cents in here...

the problems is always with hyped games such oblivion, that people expect it to be like the second coming of the christ. their expectations go really high. i have to confess, mine are pretty high.

what i dont like is the inventory, which IS actually located at the tabbed pages. i mean, come on! that doesnt look right!!
Ryuku Walker
I urgh.. The... amazement...

I think I'm gonna burst into tears..
Brood
Animations are WIP, the devs have stated this I believe.
Neela
I just watched the video and for those of you with disappointments... please remember this was made a long time ago, before the polishing stage of development. I strongly believe it is this reason they were/are so reluctant to release this one their website. People will get the wrong impression. I can just hear cries of "A month from release and thats what it looks like!" As far as the inventory system... I rather like it. It is very similar to Battlespires except that the paper doll is a three dimensional model. They even show him turn around to see the quiver on his back. In fact the inventory system has changed on every single elder scrolls game that I can remember and I dont ever remember it making the game unplayable.
Argo
i really really hope, the dl is finished when i come home today. that one guy frmo my office already has it, and is talking about it in very good ways ...
ShogunSniper
its SO awesome!!!!
the scene in the destroyed city with all the daedra and then the dremora coming out of the gate and and and the forests were SO amazing!!! trust me, you have never seen a better looking forest in a game EVER!!! and the dungeons were actually dark! and scary-like!! and the wall of spikes! and the skeletons! and the gas chambers! and the PC knocking the Lich up against a wall in the final blow! and the big rocks with spikes on them that pwned those goblins! and the big ogre!
[/hyper]

*runs out of breath and dies*
the-anti-neravarine
IT SO GREAT! the elven ruin with the skeletons and the lich and the zombies and the gas trap it looks so technological and cool

and the evil dogburner it made me falll out of my seat laughing

and the inventory and the map and the graphics and shaddows and the physics and traps
viking.gif goodjob.gif blink.gif biggrin.gif it so long until it comes to us verysad.gif but santa better get his back fixed cuz its gonna be ruined by the weight of all the copies of Oblivion santaclaus.gif
Argo
finally! ive seen the video and its really outstanding!

high end graphics, smooth shadows, great physics, passable voice acting, interesting AI (though we cant judge that from the video, since most of the stuff there obviously has been scripted) ... i cant wait the game!

oh, and i liked the "morrowind opening suite" recomposition at the main menu of the game. sweet stuff!

seems like ive been proven wrong at the ingame menu analyzation, the inventory and the map are actually in those tabbed pages. oh well, i didnt know that those tabbed pages would take 3/4 of the whole screen, id looked rather like 1/5 before ... it doesnt look all that bad. im not sure about how weapons and armor pieces are going to be equipped.

Now if only eating the brain of another would give the eater the memories of the person's brain that was eaten. Then that would be one of the many ways I could have seen it.
Ambberfox
I'll give it a try now - although I think the download will take me more than a week because the damn wireless network connection in our house is absolutely horrible and keeps disconnecting me from the internet all the time wacko.gif

i heard that it wasn't scripted, only tweakes so perfectly that it happened just how todd wanted it to. each time they played the demo at E3 supposedly it was a little different each time.
minque
I enjoyed it really....especially the town Chorrol.....the houses, the streets, the graphics is great...Now the faces of the NPC:s well there can still be some improvement I think..even though they are very realistic....I think they´ll be beteer in the actual game..or some clever modder will see to it!
Ryuku Walker
Too great.

Took me 15 mins to get it altogether. Oh well.

Anyways, what I really missed, was a glimpse of the non-man/mer races. It would indeed be very nice to see a Khajiit and an Argonian..

Too bad all that was WIP, I would have loved to see things as they are now.. tongue.gif
dumac
if you mean the one on ign then yes i did. sadly its been taken out since it was illegal.

I'm not sure I understand the sad part there though.
i_am_the_billy
i thot it was absolutely amazing
but soem of the animations were a littel quirky(especially the dog)
also the fight with the dremora in front of the portal seemed way to easy

and yes i almost cried
Argo
all of those fights were easy - but remember, every enemys health was set to nearly zero since this was for demonstration purposes only.
Infiltrator
... and the HP / Mana / Fatigue of the main char were invulnerable tongue.gif

I just saw it, it's great, the dungeons, forests, towns.. everything it's amazing! Loved the trap triggering and how that zombie fell off the ledge when the char did the swing from the right direction on him. Also when the lich hit the wall from the final impact of the sword.. I can't wait for the release!
Intestinal Chaos
I'm about to see it this afternoon. It should be quite the treat.
fl0yd13
Is it the trailer thing?? coz if it i seen it it was like 800mb
DoomedOne
I just watched it. The trap man, I loved that trap.
Alexander
A reminder.

This forums is not a help desk for those that have illegally downloaded the movie and are unable to play it. you shouldn't have it in the first place.
ShogunSniper
on animations: that is one thing that they tweak up until the launch day. so something that was done 5 months age has surely been tweaked.
Ambberfox
is it just me or does the video not contain any sound? huh.gif
ShogunSniper
its just you. oh and some other people couldnt get sound.... sry. kvleft.gif
Ambberfox
Found the problem now - the Audio-Directory inside the iso-file is empty!! dry.gif well, I have to live without sound then...
So, about the video:

I think it looked great, the scenes in the dungeon and in the forest made me drool! winkgrin.gif Animation is probably still being tweaked, that's the only thing I didn't really like
DoomedOne
The traps though, the skeletons right before they were hit... you saw that in the trailer but it looked so much better when you saw them walk up and everything. That gas chamber looked awesome too. I can imagine many a newbie not knowing how to escape. It seems like oblivion will require you to pay closer attention to your surroundings.
RobRendell
A friend of mine who I've put on to Oblivion recently casually mentioned that he'd seen the demo last night at roleplaying. I almost had a hernia... "What!?! You've seen the demo?!?"

Downloaded it overnight. Watched it on the train to work. I probably scared the other commuters with my insane grin and mutterings to myself... "ah, the famous bookshop!"

One thing that hasn't been mentioned in this thread... the eternal question of the skill list is answered in full in the video (assuming it hasn't changed since the video was made). When Todd does some stuff in the interface when demonstrating the stealth sub-game, he obligingly hovers his mouse pointer over each stat, and the pop-out info box lists the three skills associated with that stat.

Or has this list been announced/inferred already? If so, no point in repeating it here.

Intestinal Chaos
Aaaaggghhh.... I'm going insane..... I still have yet to watch it... and it's chipping away at my sanity....
stargelman
A little OT, for which I apologize in advance.

If you're referring to the AUDIO_TS directory present on every DVD, that is almost always empty, except if it's an audio DVD. This is not where the sound for the movie(s) is stored. Rather, the audio is contained in the .VOB files which contain multiplexed streams. If you can't hear anything, it's not because the sound isn't there. It must be a problem with your setup.
RobRendell

People are tossing around ISOs of the DVD? Man, how large is that?

The .avi someone obligingly encoded (presumably from the DVD ISOs) was 120 Meg, and that's enough for me.

Hmm, something back on topic... so, what's the story with this movie? I gather it hasn't been officially release by Bethesda, but it's pretty professional, with Todd doing voiceover and starting and finishing with the Bethesda logos and all. It's also clearly been captured directly from the gameplay, not sneakily videoed from the E3 demo. So, how did it come to be, does anyone know?
Infiltrator
Like it always comes with leaks - the wrong person was entrusted with a pre-release version. smile.gif

Problem solved, just had to use another program for playing the file goodjob.gif

a note about the animations in the video: the problem does not seem to be that the animations themself are not refined enough but that the animation system does not properly link the different animations together and makes them look like a fluent movement (f.ex. the part where you see the dog). My guess is that the programmers will still fix that.

And how lucky we are that they got it biggrin.gif
Infiltrator
Indeed we have biggrin.gif

Even though it is not nice to get thigs this way, I was never going to actually pay for a dvd with only a showcase of the game.
plagusthewise
ive watched it atleast five or six times already. if you look hard enough youll find it. its too bad it was released illegally though.
