Full Version: Oblivion Journal

Has there been any screenshots or info on how the journal in Oblivion will be formatted. I didn't like the MW one, because it was organized by date so it was hard to go back to a quest you haven't done in a while. Since there is only about 150 quests in Oblivion (or so I've heard, correct me if I'm wrong) it would be easy to organize it by quest. Kind of like the Runescape Quest Journal. And of course it would have to have somethign like MW where your journal has all the useful info that the NPCs give you.
Any info or ideas would be great.

I'm pretty sure I read in one of the interviews that the journal will be organized by quest (they compared it to World of Warcraft quest sorting).

I thought the journal being organized by date was raither (he-he! Get it? Raither?) clever. It looked as though your character was writing through his journal as he progressed through the game.

And a journal that was organized by quest would be confusing for me because I would no longer be able to find the loggs for the current quest I was doing. What if all the loggs for this certain quest were at the back somewhere? I would have to flip through all those pages (reading each one dry.gif ) untill I found it! devilsad.gif

I concur with Raither; making it look like your character was really keeping a real journal greatly added to the roleplaying experience. A separate quest log for getting down to bussiness would be nice, though.

One of the devs announced it will be organized by quest.

I think you are getting the wrong idea here. Picture the quest log like this:
------------------------------------
Quest Log

- A Slave in need
- The misterious figure
- Writ: Dipsi Teletubbie
- Lost Dunmer
ect...

-------------------------------------

The list is scrollable, and you can collapse each quest name to give you a detailed description of it.

heh that was the funnyest part of that...
ShogunSniper
perhaps like you had a quest part of your journal, then like a story part of you journal.

so your quest log would be like:
------------------------------------
Quest Log

- A Slave in need
- The misterious figure
- Writ: Dipsi Teletubbie
- Lost Dunmer
ect...

-------------------------------------

and then your story log would be like:
-------------------------------------
[char.'s name]'s Journal

-today i found a slave in need
-today i found a mysterious figure
-today i'm going to kill a teletubbie
-today i found a lost dunmer and ate his soul

---------------------------------------

except better written.
i also think it would be a nice addition for pc users (and maybe 360's with a usb port and all) to type their own journal entries.
