we still don't know what type of hardware will be required to run Oblivion smoothly on a PC but it's probably a fact that a lot of people right now are concerned about that their system might be too slow or lack certain other requirements.
What I thought is that anyone who wants to get some advices could post some informations about his system in this thread - only the main hardware-components, please - and then we could try to help that person with deciding what components need an upgrade - or if a completely new system is needed wink.gif
Ambberfox
in case nobody is against it I'd like to start:

Mainboard: Capable of AMD Athlon XP
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2600+
GFX: Nvidia GeForce FX 5900XT (128MB)
RAM: 512 MB DDR RAM

I think before Oblivion is released I'll buy a Mainboard that is capable of an AMD 64-Processor. That would also mean I'd have to buy new RAM. And I'd also like to buy a new graphic-card. What do you guys think?
ShogunSniper
*clears throat* not to good with cpu's but, is a geforce 6600gt good for a graphics card?
Wurlon
Heh this is what I'm looking at, the regular xbox 360 without games and such is what, 299 or 399? I think that's a lot cheaper then getting the bundles for hundreds of dollars when the necessary video chip is probably a little over 200 dollars or even less. I mean the prices are outrageous.... I just want oblivion and maybe halo 3~

Hm, I'd say it's a little above average. The problem with the 6600GT is that it has only got 128MB, for Oblivion I'd suggest something with 256MB
King Death
I'll probaly get it for the 360 even though my pc is more than capable of running it (3000+ Athlon 64 biggrin.gif ).
Ambberfox
somehow I've got the impression that I'm the only person on this planet who wants to play Oblivion on the PC... huh.gif
Megil Tel-Zeke
Nah lol, i want it for the PC.

CPU: P4 3.4 GHz Ht
GFX: Radeon 9800 pro 256 MB
Memory:1024MB DDr RAM

Nah I want to , but it will be awhile.... as I have no cash on me and my parent's already are upset about gas prices. I'm buying Oblivion for both Xbox 360 and PC even if I don't have the proper stuff to play them yet tongue.gif

I mean come on the PC almost always has the best graphicxzors and the construction set is a marvelous tool tongue.gif

Well the ram i am very well aware of.....and will add rather soon i reckon, but can´t i just upgrade the drivers to my graphic card?
Ambberfox
Only updating the drivers will unfortunately not help a lot, I fear that a newer card with 256MB will be needed
Megil Tel-Zeke
hmm my comp should be fine right?

hm, I guess it's a 128mb-card. Before buying a new one it's very important to read a lot of tests and reviews, thus you can be sure that the one you're gonna buy is a good one smile.gif
minque
Why yes i will..thanks for your helpful comments then...
DoomedOne
Megil I have the exact same statistics as you
Fuzzy Knight
Hmm, I'm building a new PC - Gonna order the parts soon, I might buy a new GCard thought at Christmas.. smile.gif

Here's my list so far..

•NEC DVD recorder ND-3540A IDE Black OEM DVD+R/+RW/DVD-R/-RW (Dual layer)

tongue.gif
Megil Tel-Zeke
that monitor doesn't have DVI input only analog. O.o
Fuzzy Knight
Hmm, well I dont know if I'm going for that exact monitor, was just advice from a friend... kvleft.gif

Whats a DVI Input???
Megil Tel-Zeke
I have the samsung syncmaster 173p which is cne't's top rater syncmaster. I love mine. granted it was $600, but came with a $300 rebate. so might not be within your budget O.o

DVI:digital visual interface. http://www.ce.org/about_cea/cea_initiative...Doc_1_04_02.pdf

everything else looks good.

but may AMD might be a better choice for CPU. just a thought.

also I have a NZXT tower. except mines "guardian" and not the nemesis.
Fuzzy Knight
Nahh.. I dont want AMD, thought about it but I'm using alot of programs like Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004, Fireworks MX 2004, Adobe Photoshop CS, JASC Paint Shop Pro 9.0 and all that, and so I think I want to stick with Intel Pentium 4..

If I have some extra money so might go for this one; Eizo 19" LCD FlexScan L768AS TCO-03 Grey
Khaan
Well my pc's never going to be near xbox-360 standard verysad.gif but I should be getting a pretty meaty 3d card in feb smile.gif
Fuzzy Knight
Made a new list today, here's the "gaming part"...

Intel Pentium 4 - 3.2 GHz
1024 MB RAM
290 GB HD
GeForce 6800GT 256MB

Might get watercooling by Christmas then its just to 'clock' it or what ever you say in English and get around 4.0 GHz and I'll most possible buy the newest GCard at the time.. smile.gif

Well you have good time - When the system requirments come out I'll see if I'm going to upgrade my card as Oblivion comes out and sell my old one smile.gif
Chumbaniya
I think my PC should be fine for oblivion. Here's what I think my PC has (though I'm not sure of any of the components):

2700 MHz AMD something-or-other processor
Either 512, 768 or 1024Mb DDR RAM (I'm not sure which two RAM things are in the PC at the moment).
Geforce FX 256mb (no idea what model)
Creative Audigy 2 Sound Card
152 Gig Hard drive (this is what my comp is telling me, I suspect it is meant to be 160 gig)

The main problem with my PC at the moment is the god-awful screen. I'll need a new one if I want to enjoy Oblivion in all it's shiny-grahiced glory.
Fuzzy Knight
Hmm, well the screen I'm going to buy for my new computer will be this one;

Samsung 19" LCD Syncmaster 930BF TCO-99 700:1, DVI-D, 4ms, 1280x1024

Looked over a few screens, and this was the best I cam over - very good price on it too actually smile.gif Think it will do very good even when Oblivion comes out...

But over to the Oblivion System Requirments, maybe we could do some brainstorming trying to find out what the SR will be... I've been thinking and I think it will be pretty much like BF2, only that you will need a better GCard.

Think that with 1GB RAM will be enough to run it on maybe some graphics on "normal" and some on "high". I'm pretty sure you will need over Intel Pentium 4 2.4+ GHz, AMD 2.4 should work pretty good I think. Minimum 10 GB left on your HD just for safety reasons tongue.gif
Ambberfox
umm, this thread went slightly into the wrong direction huh.gif ... this thread was not intended to give the people who already own an uber-PCs the possibility to show off with their system's specifications wink.gif - it should be more something like a thread in which people who think that their system lacks a certain hardware-component, to make Oblivion run smoothly, can ask for suggestions about what to improve.

QUOTE(Chumbaniya)

I'd try to make sure that you have at least 1024Mb, 512 will certainly not be enough
Redvsbluefan0
My current stats:

-2.4Ghz AMD Athelon 3000+ XP processor
-512MB of RAM
-160GB 'o hardrive space
-128MB RAM Nvidia GEforce FX 5500 video card
-18 inch flatscreen monitor

Except for the GFX card and RAM I think I'm good.
Planning on an upgrade soon anyway wink.gif
molia
amd athlon64 3200+ (sk939)
gigabyte k8 triniton (nforce4sli)
1gb ddr400 (pc3200)
cheap, no good pcx video-card (geforce fx5300@128mb)

u may b wondering: why pay so much for a gamer's processor, yet not invest in a decent video card?
simple answer: plan on upgrading when video cards get cheaper in romania. hopefully, i'll have some cash by july.
do u think there's the slightest chance i'll get 60fps(playable rate) on lowest at 1024x768?
btw: don't buy an nforce4sli chipset mainboard unless u plan to get a liquid cooling sistem right now i have 9 fans to cool my system. getting one more. don't bother additionaly cooling down the cpu. not necessary
Infiltrator
My current PC that I plan on keeping once I get oblivion:

Athlon XP 3600+ (2.2Ghz)
MSI K8N Platinium mobo
MSI GF6800 GT 256mbr
1 GB Kingstone DDR
Maxtor SATA HD, 80gigs (even that is too much for me)

Yea, your gonna def need a newer vid card.. I'd also say get a another stick of 1 gig ram.

BTW about teh fans and watercooled systems.. there just to frickin cool to not waist your money on tongue.gif

I know that my current system will not run the game so I'm just hoping to get some advice on what to get so that it will be able to.

my current system is:

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.00GHz
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420
RAM: 512 MB

I plan on getting more RAM and a new graphics card also more hardrive space what other things should I buy?

I'm afraid 2 Ghz won't even be enough for the minimum requirements, instead of a new hard drive I'd suggest a better CPU sad.gif
Alexander
I plan to get a new computer at the end of this month or the next, I'm getting one with all the bells and such to make sure I won't have to worry about it nor running a game for the next 3 years at least smile.gif

would a cpu with 3GHz run it?
if anyone could maybe post a link to a better cpu it would be very helpful
Infiltrator
Mind you, 2 ghz Athlon XP will be like 3 Ghz P4...
Argo
i can only hope that my

AMD64 3200+
1024 MB RAM

and my trusted

X800 XT Platinum

will run this game!

...oh wait! i think it will! wink.gif=
Fuzzy Knight

Yeah I know... I've already changed that part to a Western Digital Caviar 250GB SATA2 16MB 7200RPM, got some advice from my oncle about it...

But its not 100% sure I'm going for that case right now, gets a little bit expensive so I might just buy a pretty good Aluminium with 2x120mm fans for 700 NKRs and just have that a little while smile.gif
