Hi my dear friends smile.gif

Tomorrow I'm going to write an article about rasism. I got most things ready for what I'm going to write about, but I could need a good title! kvright.gif

I suck at making titles and this one has to be a good one, since it's a article I'm going to write pretty serious about rasism, but it would be great if anyone could help me out - Simply post all suggestions you have, that would be great!

Luv you all! embarrased.gif (Ok, that was very girl-like of me... indifferent.gif tongue.gif but you know I do) Thanks in advance to everyone... wink.gif

hmm...Oeh mj-> It Don't Matter If You're Black Or White coolgrin.gif It's hard because I don't know is it for your english class? Because if it has to be written it's hard to come up with a nice title which is also nice if you translate it :/?
Fuzzy Knight
It's ok if its in English, since I can either transelate it or use it as inspiration.. smile.gif

Rasisme...hva er poenget, or hvorfor blir det ikke slått ned?

Thats mine, and for the sake of the rest of you, I'll translate it.

Racism...what's the point, and why don't we strike down enough on it?

Hope that one is a good one for you, and good luck on your Norwegian exam, and since you're writing about racism, I guess you have taken it out from the text about Nelson Mandela.
treydog
Of course, it kind of depends on the point(s) you plan to make....

Racism- Is it Really Self-Hatred?

Recognizing (and Correcting) Racism in Ourselves

Overcoming Racism- It Takes More than Tolerance

Cultural Education- One Key to Defeating Racism

My 2 cents worth. Here's wishing you well.

A title should not just be catchy but also give a hint at what point or points about racism you are going to discuss. There are many different types and effects from different aspects. Are you attempting to cover everything or just focus on a few individual aspects of it?

that's a good one.

Yeh, that is a good one.

I liked - The Race for Equality - too. Kinda says it all.

Racism, slowing us all down ... my contribution.

'kay... let me have a go at this (if it isn't already too late):

"Ratial differences - a thing of the mind ?" (yeah, genetisc says so tongue.gif)
"Rasizm - a plague and a stain on human history"

Racisim vs. Racist socialisation

Of course the title doesn't work unless its actaully about racisim vs. racist socialisation which is what I'd do it on.
Ibis
It must be morning in New Zealand now.

What is Racist socialization? Is that a good or a bad thing? I've never heard the term. blink.gif

Being prejudgice rather than actaully being hatist. As an example, something all the African Americans I've talked to mention when they are in NZ, is that they find it absolutely strange not being classified as a criminal. A couple of stories from one dude: When he first came to NZ he went to a garage sale and found a nice bike he wanted, he had the money for it but wasn't going to buy a $200 bike without giving it a try so he was abit unsure. However the vendor (white) asked him if he wanted to give it a try and my friend was thinking wtf, are you trying to compassion me or something, no white guys would trust a black guy with his bike, so my friend didn't know what to do so just walked off thinking the guy was hamster cave with him.

Second story, he was visiting the capitial, now the capital has a very obscure foot path from the hill into the city, you have to do all these crazy things like walk through people's backyards. And so naturally he didn't want to go through the wrong person's backyard because he's black and he thinks he'd get shot (not that we have guns but anyhow), so he asks a guy for directions and the guy started giving him directions but says "actaully its a bit complex, I'm driving down there in 5 minutes so how about I give you a ride". My friend was cool with this so he waited and got in the car and it took him about 5 minutes to realise "Hey, wait a minute, doesn't he realise I'm a black guy and I could steal his car", then he realised that yes the guy really didn't realise that because he didn't think of black guys as theives.

Moral of the story is that although the majority of Americans aren't really racist, there is a sort of stereotype that all large black men are criminals, and although he knew he wasn't a criminal he had given into that stereotype as well he thought all white people assumed he was a criminal. Thats racist socialisation, so when African Americans come to NZ they get weirded out like that because in NZ we aren't used to that type of socialisation (we have other socialisations though, but African Americans think we are some kind of model society biggrin.gif ). One last story, he likes telling everyone about racist socialisation so I have tons biggrin.gif

Can't remember where he was but he wanted a picture of himself infront of some landmark, so he asked a New Yorker white tourist (not knowing he was from New York untill he heard the accent) if he could get a photo of him, so he gave the New Yorker his camera and had a photo taken, then the New Yorker asked my friend to take a photo of him, but just before giving him his camera he asked "Your not going to steal it are you?". My friend made some wise-boat crack (which I forgot) and took the photo. But my friend first of all gave the New Yorker the his own camera first and then was asked to take a photo, didn't volenteer of anything, he was asked to, and yet the New Yorker still tried to make sure he wasn't going to steal it.

I was aware of the stereotype because see it a lot in American TV, but all the African American guys are really nice so I have a completely different stereotype.

Thanks for the replies everyone, a shame I didn't manage to catch them all since we got a blackout here for a moment then the i-net was gone...

I think it went pretty well, sat from 8:00 till 15:45 writing - Most have been nearly 12 pages, the finished text came up to nearly 5. Was one bad thing tho, that was the situation about my notesheet.
Had apparenlty written in a wrong way, nearly like a text - but it was small paragraphs of facts and stuff. But my teachers and supervisors wouldn't take any chances since I would have to send the notesheet in along with my text and maybe I would use these paragraphs in the text and bla bla...
I didn't really understand the point, but anyway - I wasn't allowed to use my notesheet but think it went pretty well, was better to give it up than to take the chance of the school who would be setting a grade on my paper to think I was cheating or something...

I ended up writing mostly about why we have racism and a large part of how to overcome it, so I used treydogs "Overcoming Racism- It Takes More than Tolerance" smile.gif

But thanks to everyone who posted, really nice by all of you! smile.gif

Hopefully I'll get a good grade on the exam.. wink.gif
