Full Version: The continent of Akavir - does it deserve more attention ?

Seeing recently many many sites and pages of data about Tamriel, involving its history, theology, social structures and everything else, It would be honest to say I`m overwhelmed. However, I`ve been thinking not only about Tamrielic lore, but also the whole Nirn as a complete world. Sure, there are very interesting an wacky things happening all across Tamriel that provide enough material for another 4 TES games in the future, but what if (just IF) we could observe whole Nirn as one simple planet with 2 moons, its regular continents, seas and oceans ? If it was so, one should also have to start looking at other places in Nirn, in this case Akavir. Now, there might be more lore on that misterious place, which (in my opinion) vaguely resembles Far East (tiger-dragons ??), but the only thing I found was that small book in MW, "Misterious Akavir", and some stuff in Imperial Library. I, for one, would like to hear more, MUCH more, about this strange, exotic and dangerous place, which deserves at least one TES game in the future, In My Humble Opinion.
So, what do you think - should there be a TES N: Akavir (N is any number between 5 and infinity) one fine day ?
Darkwing
I think it should be a link between the next 3 games. So each game is set in a surrounding Province/Continent and they are all linked directly to the Akivar continent. The plots could be intertwined to the point where each game relates directly to each other over the ages.

I was aiming more on development of the Akavir Lore, and an RPG which would actually take place there, and not on Tamriel ? kvright.gif

Well of course it would be worth exploring, but is it diverse enough to make a game out of? Thats the question.

I mean, its absolutely possible to include the Akivar into the game Lore, but basing a game around that one specific Lore may not produce enough mileage.

Well, we have 4 races there, more or less fighting all the time, which is a good starting point... how about a tamrielic expedition which brings our hero there ? Or, maybe even a chance to play such game as a member of those brave monkey-warriors ? From what I`ve read, they really have it rough... but they`re holding ground nevertheless - that could be the spark for the story - the unwilling/unknowing hero who comes from Tamriel to their aid:

"Across the distant seas adventurer from the world beyond came
to defend our lands alongside us and gain eternal fame
and trough his bravery and trough all the fights he bore
Saviour gained place in our hearts now and forever more..."

TES N: Akavir would be another Battlespire. I don't think Bethsy wants that.
minque
would it be possible to hear a bit more from experiences from the past ES games? I read the books in TIL but I would like to hear from actual players about how they played and yricks..and hmmm spoilers...

well just a thought.............

I realize that a lot of people who have only played Morrowind would love to know more about the other games.

Now, I haven't played Redguard, but I am perfectly capable of answering questions about it.

So, go ahead and ask your questions.
(tiger-dragons ??)
Let me enlighten you brother, once on the foreign shores of Akavir there were men, dragons, snow demons, goblins and many other races. Some of these races died from wars. One of these races, the tiger people, respected the mighty dragonsof Akavir. So when the golden vampire lizard peoples (ach, forgot their name!) started killing of the dragons for their blood, the tiger people took action. There was a great war, and in the process the dragons were destroyed. Both sides had devestationg losses. The tiger people wished to bring back the dragons, and eventually one of them became a dragon. I don't know how they did this though, it makes me so sad

Oh wow, I'm ressurecting this long dead topic!

I think a little bit more of Akiviri focus would be nice but it might be like another Battlespire like Sinder said. Maybe it would be alright at least seeing a few creatures from Akivar or at least a race. But I'm not sure this'll happen, it would be a huge change to the genre puting it into an oriental-like setting. But who knows, after all I'm not a dev.

could somebody gimme some info on Akavir? like whats happening in it, were it is, and some history and stuff I will never read but if I get bored I will have something to do?

Just as a note, I think it'd be a alrge project for developers to start writing lore for akavir, but a great project for future game. I'd like to see it happen slowly, because they write about the world as they go along really, so for the next one it's be great if ships started coming into the big port cities trading with Akavir and the crews of these ships would mixed races of both continents so you could find some very interesting characters, and some nice goods in these port cities. Obviously there would be a few akavir-born people living in this port cities as well, it'd be nice look at how cultures reac tto each other. Maybe, and this is a long shot, you could get a job on a trading ship so you could stop and see one single port city in Akavir.

Though I think the culture shock will hardly be a peaceful one laugh.gif

One of the good things about the Elder Scrolls system is that the lore is largely flexible and can be extended by its fanbase. Whilst they'd have to add a certain amount of input, it wouldn't be as hard as creating an entirely new, fully fledged fantasy world, because of the info they can look back on for previous projects.
Intestinal Chaos
Even with the previously added Akivar lore that is hardly anything. I have a feeling though a few more bits of the mysterious continent's lore will be added in Oblivion.
Elongar
But we may have a certain amount of lore once we get to Elder Scrolls N: Akivir.
Daikirai
As soon as they make a Morrowind/Oblivion style game that takes place in Summerset Isle, then Black Marsh, then Skyrim, then Hammerfell, then Ellyswyre (sp?), then one in High Rock, and then finally a first person 3D game that takes us all across Tamriel, and the developers make up for the lost time while we were off exploring Akavir with the Tamriel time line, sure. Until we've explored the entire continent in first person 3D, no.

As far as I'm concerned, TES is all about Tamriel. Akavir only exists so the rest of the world makes sense. After 9 games, you have to have some background info on the entire world. Making Tamriel a little Island in the middle of nowhere would be a mistake.

Yes, we know kvright.gif

Anyways who cares if they do one about the Akavir... I mean I don't see the TES games getting any smaller so I think they could incorporate some large scale landage..
Aki
Like Daikirai, I want Tamriel fully fleshed out before we move onto Akavir.

Besides, In Akavir you'd either end up with nigh-endless hostility if you used the old races (Akavir hate tamriel-folk), Or end up having to use one of the akavir races.. huh.gif

Channler
BTW... let see..

lets let D = development years, G = games, and H = How many years till Akavir

D x G = H

(4) x (5) = (20 years)

Omg, I'll be 37 by the time TES:IX is released and TES:X will be developed....
DoomedOne
And I'd like to see a game set in every continent before we move on, what is that? 6 more contenets to do?
Daikirai
Leaving behind Tamriel to make a TES game that took place in Akavir would be like randomly jumping on a plane out of the US into Southern Africa without so much as a "goodbye" from friends and family.

Besides, you know nothing about Akavir. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Curiosity doesn't make good games. And, six other continents? Aren't two or more of them completely abandoned like Antarctica?
DoomedOne
I meant province

See that where your ideals differ from mine and several other people...

I love games that make you have to discover stuff.. not sure how you put it into words..

I don't suppose you liked Knights of the Old Republic then?
Daikirai
Does what it is that you discover have no impact on the games?
Intestinal Chaos
Ignoring pointless hostility, I agree with the province being fleshed out before heading out. But some provinces are just too numerouse the series will be dead by then. Still it couldn't hurt having some akivirian contact.

FUN FACT: Oblivion was to originally take place on surmset isle.

True. But as they will be able to make the games bigger, they can eventually explore more than one province per game.
