I know I've been neglecting my fanfic of late, so I thought I'd share something else I've been working on recently: Songs! I've written quite a few song parodies before now, but never any original stuff, so this is something new for me and I'd be glad to hear your thoughts.
The first song, "Supposed To Be", is based loosely on my Morrowind fanfic and is a duet between the main character, Ada, and her Dunmer lover. The second song, "Whispers", is sung by... well, see if you can guess from the lyrics.
Both songs have tunes, but they don't sound very good without an accompaniment. I've written out the music and even worked out chords for one of them, and one of my musically-talented friends has offered to write a piano part, but he's very busy and I have no idea when he'll get around to it. Maybe one day I'll be able to actually sing them, record the music and post it here, but it's not going to be for quite a while.
Anyway, on to the songs themselves:
Supposed To Be (
Midi file)
WOMANS VOICE:
It isnt right,
This isnt how it was supposed to be
I had my life and my future planned.
Just one mistake,
A drink too many on the road to Cheydinhal
Left it all in pieces,
With the blood and shattered glass.
MANS VOICE:
The stories lied,
This isnt how it was supposed to be
The saviour should be one of our own.
A saint reborn,
A knight in shining armour, not a stranger
With a shadowed past
Many fall, but you remain.
BOTH:
But how can I regret the chance that brought me(you) here to Morrowind
The storm that bore me(you) on the wind
Like driftwood in the sea,
The gods are dead,
The Temple pillars crumble, yet the land begins to heal,
Perhaps thats how it was supposed to be.
WOMANS VOICE:
I look outside,
This isnt how it was supposed to be
I know Ill never truly belong.
The lakes and trees,
The hills and forests of my homeland call to me
Every time I tread
On the parched and ashy ground.
MANS VOICE:
You should have died,
This isnt how it was supposed to be
For your kind fade while mine live on,
When I am old,
Our childrens children will be in their graves
And youll still be here,
No different from the way you look today.
BOTH:
And in a hundred years, will I(you) still yearn for home as I(you) do now?
The pain that clouds my(your) furrowed brow
As I(you) look towards the sea.
Theres grief in store,
Yet how can I regret the chance that brought me(you) here to you(me)?
WOMANS VOICE:
Perhaps thats how it was supposed to be.
MANS VOICE:
Perhaps thats how it was supposed to be.

Whispers (
Midi file)
Its whispered in Mournhold my powers are fading,
A year now since Dagoth Ur fell.
The Temple still stands, but its pillars are shaking,
Azura has done her work well.
The people are frightened; their faith has grown weaker
They need me to give them a sign;
Azura is watching, she waits in the shadows
She covets the souls that are mine.
They were my children, protected and cherished
And I was their mother, so patient, so wise,
I fought off Lord Dagon, I drove back the Empire;
I cant fight the fear that I see in their eyes.
But I will not stay here to cower and tremble
Like mortals afraid of their fate.
I must find a way to be rid of the whispers,
For soon it will be all too late.
The prophets of darkness are loose in my city,
They speak of the end of all Time;
The whispers grow louder with each passing moment
No rhythm, no reason, no rhyme
The ashstorms will show them my strength isnt failing,
The doubters who mock me will flee by the score,
The false king will fall, and the Empire will crumble;
This land will belong to my people once more.
They call for a hero; Ill give them a martyr
Theyll say hes my husband reborn,
When he meets his death in the great Clockwork City
The whole Dunmer nation will mourn.
Theyll turn to their mother, their goddess, their saviour
And bathe in my glory and light;
For I and no other will be their salvation,
Theyll bow to my vengeance and might.
And Sotha Sil spoke not a word, not a whisper
He mocked me in death as his life ebbed away,
Next comes the man whom I once called a lover
And Ill rule alone at the close of the day.
There once was a poet, a mage and a Lady
But those times are finished and gone,
The old pacts are broken; the Three are now two
And soon there will only be one.
