I need some help with my pet bird(Black masked lovebird). She seems to be sitting on my chair and eating my hair. What do I do?

In my experiances with birds (I'm a master Aviologist ), I have found that they ge bored easily. Try giving it a more interesting bird toy that your hair, and it will likely be drawn away from eating your hair. Make sure the toy is safe though because many of the bird toys I see now have small parts that can easily pass as choking hazards. Hope this helps fellow lovebird lover!

She has lots of toys. The problem is just that she wants attention, which she gets by sitting on my arm or chair and pecking me until I show her I know shes here. But we dont want another bird or she will be with the other bird not people (according to all the books). Is there any way to train her to stop?

Edit: Nevermind, I found that her sitting on my shirt stops her claws and beak from hurting me. But now shes tickling my neck!

Give her a little covered can filled with different colored glass beads ... or rather, very slyly DON'T give it to her. Let her think it is yours and that she just saw it by mistake and then she will really crave it!

If she is anything like the pet Bluejay that we used to have (she fell outa the tree as a baby so we rescued her from the cats and apparently just at her formative time because she always thought she was a human after that) ... she will bust her nut to get at those glass beads and after CAREFULLY choosing just the right color ... will still hide it in your hair - but at least she won't be pulling on your hair so much, just arranging it around the bead.

If it doesn't work on your bird, try it on your girlfriend. Do you think Ibis learnt that trick just to use on her bird? No, it was used on her and because it worked so well on her she decided to use on her bird.

I think Fetherwen may have a good idea there ... just make sure that some foul tasting type of hair gel isn't toxic to her.

Ibis will taste them for you to ensure they are foul tasting and non toxic before you buy them.

Ahem! Yes, I'll "taste" them by dropping them in your fishbowl and seeing if you croak!!!

Put hotsauce on your hair.

That's how I got my dog to stop carrying dead animals into my yard. I just dumped hotsauce on them, so when he tried to pick them up again, it wasn't pleasant.

It seems kind of extreme to put hot sauce on his hair and burn a little bird's mouth/beak. I still think you could hang some beads in your hair, kinda near where the bird likes to sit and I bet it would be more fascinated by that.

I don't think a little bird would handle hot sauce very well, it might try to rip out its tongue or something. I suggest you put hotsauce in your hair anyway but wash it off before you go near your bird.

I think the bird just needs to get the pecking/biting out if its system, let it use Ibis as a scratching/biting post.

I think you are a stepchild of Alfred Hitchcock. Your talking about giant eagles in New Zealand that ate people made me dream about them the other night. There were these huge things in the sky that people were fearing were aliens or UFOs, but when they swooped closer - they were gigantic eagles who were hunting people - although they did not bother a hawk that was hunting too, seemed to respect the brother hawk. Anyway, it was very scarey and there also was a whole side wall that was an aquarium tank and a fish rubbing itself on a piano. That's when I knew that you were behind it ... I think you were orchestrating a takeover of the world by fish & birds.

Oh and Hitchcock's 'The Birds' (is that the correct English name for it?) is one of my all time favorite movies. They show it quite often on various channels here, and each time I come over it while browsing channels I just have to keep watching. Great atmosphere in that movie...

You got the name right. I thought it was a good movie but I thought the ending was a bit lame, perhaps that is just because I am used to modern movies which a big dramatic conclusion not walking slowly out the car, the end.

Ibis, I find your dream extremely funny. But you shouldn't be so quick to assume its a dream, if I did take over the world then I would keep certain humans for social expermentation. I haven't seen dark city Pisces, but its funny you would ask that because I work at night, we come home and play online until dawn or so & then sleep. Around sunset the next night I go to work again (no I'm not a vampire tee hee)

I went with a school group to British Isles a long time ago and when we were in this English hotel a whole bunch of black birds suddenly all rose up and started flying around the courtyard & swooping everywhere. ALL the girls screamed and ran in terror from the windows but I was looking at them fascinated. I never saw the movie "The Birds" & so this terribly normal event of nature didn't terrify me nearly to death.

You should see dark city. I have it on DVD, you should come around and watch, Olav will pay for the plane ticket. This may spoil it abit (the middle of it, but not the ending): there is aliens who play experiments on a city of humans, they alter the city everyday at midnight and implant memories into the inhabitants to see if given a new life if they would continue down it or start a new one, eg if given the memories of a murderer if the person would continue as a murderer, or if a poor family given the memories and wealth of a rich family would stay rich or blow all the money away. It is never day, the memories of day are just implanted into people. It would be an awefully boring experiment if I you slept all day so thats why I gave you a night job.
